It’s official, Pastor Joel affirms infant baptism!
Romans 1:24-32 is clear, when a society willfully chooses to reject God's truth in exchange for the lie, as well as reject God's glory in exchange for the glory of the creature, God promises to hand them over to their sins and the horrible consequences which will inevitably follow. Romans 1:18 assures us that God has clearly revealed himself to all people, both by his creation and his just wrath toward sinners. So in Romans 1:24-32, the Apostle Paul is merely demonstrating precisely how the wrath of God is revealed. One clear demonstration of the wrath of God is God's choice to hand sinners over to their own lusts, so that they might receive the “due penalty” for their sin (the natural consequences of sin). In other words, sin is its own punishment (not the only/ultimate punishment). Apart from God’s “saving grace” (found only in Christ), all people have embraced their own rebellion by casting off the righteous rule of God and his Law. Therefore, on one level, Romans 1:24-32 applies to each and every individual who has been born. However, on another level, Romans 1:24-32 also applies to collective societies and cultures down through human history. At the Tower of Babel, arrogant sinners defied God and incurred his just judgment. At Sodom and Gomorrah, the people were so corrupt that God rained down fire and consumed their cities. Furthermore, when God told Moses and Joshua to utterly destroy the Canaanites, it was because these wicked and godless people had filled up the full measure of God's wrath by committing heinous acts of rebellion for over 400 years (Genesis 15:13-16). In short, when a society abandons God, God will abandon them.
The fact that this circumcision was performed under Joshua, rather than Moses, points forward to the new and better circumcision of the heart that comes by grace under the administration of Jesus, and not the law under the administration of Moses.
Are the “Theobros” and “Tradwives” simply trying to resurrect the patriarchy of the 1980’s homeschool movement? How does the resurgence of Biblical Patriarchy today differ from the teachings of the Duggars, the Pearls, and Bill Gothard? *Ministry Sponsors:* *Squirrelly Joes Coffee - Caffeinating The Modern Reformation* *Visit squirrellyjoes.com to purchase your coffee today!* *Private Family Banking:* *Email at banking@privatefamilybanking.com or call 830-339-9472 to schedule an appointment today!* To support Right Response Ministries, visit: https://rightresponseministries.com/donate Subscribe to our Theology Applied podcast below: Apple podcast: https://bit.ly/theologyapplied Spotify podcast: https://bit.ly/theologyappliedspotify Google Play podcast: https://bit.ly/theologyappliedgooglepodcast *If you live in the Austin area, Pastor Joel just started planting a brand new church called Covenant Bible Church in Hutto, Texas. Christendom 2.0 won’t happen without the Baptists, and Baptists won’t fully get on board until they learn to think covenantally.
“Circumcision was originally a seal of the promise of the land of Canaan... It was in the believing hope of that good land that the patriarchs circumcised their children; but when God had sworn in his wrath concerning the men who came out of Egypt that they should be consumed in the wilderness, and never enter Canaan, nor come within sight of it, as a further ratification of that sentence, and to be a constant memorandum of it to them, all that fell under that sentence, and were to fall by it, were forbidden to circumcise their children, by which they were plainly told that, whatever others might, they should never have the benefit of that promise of which circumcision was the seal.” -Matthew Henry

God ordered Joshua to circumcise Israel at a time when it might be done with safety, even in an enemy’s country, due to their hearts being melted with fear. Joshua could have easily been thought of as unwise for this particular command. According to natural reason, it was foolish to undergo circumcision at this time. However, when God gives a command, we must not consult with flesh and blood.
“The women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.”
1 Corinthians 14:34-35 ESV
“Here with [a sword] drawn out of the scabbard, to justify the war with the Canaanites, and to encourage Joshua to proceed in it. His sword has been drawn against his enemies, and those of his people from the beginning, ever since the fall of man, when enmity commenced between him and the seed of the serpent; it appeared drawn when here on earth combating with all our spiritual enemies, and will never be put up until all enemies are put under his feet... The spiritual Israel of God, the Church, is in a militant state, and has many enemies to combat with - sin, Satan, the world, and false teachers; Christ is their Leader and Commander, the Captain of their salvation, and has all necessary qualifications of wisdom, courage, and might, for such an office.” -John Gill
