On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman, Dan talks to Brad Clay from Final Descent Outdoors. Brad shares hunting stories from all around the country. Final Descent Outdoors is a faith based ministry and tv show that uses the outdoor platform to share Jesus Christ by fellow hunters.

Brad grew up in a small western Oklahoma town where he developed a passion for hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Brad gave his life to Christ as a sophomore in high school. Brad has been serving over the past 12 years a licensed and ordained minister in Oklahoma. Brad founded Final Descent Outdoors through his church as an outreach. It quickly grew into a nationally televised show that reaches 40 million homes in North America. Final Descent Outdoors is now a full time position for Brad and has blessed him with the opportunity to do 30-40 speaking engagements a year at churches and men’s ministries.

Hunting Feral Hogs in Texas Mar 14, 2022

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Jordan Donohoo and Justin Renard from Hunts For Heroes Outfitters about their organization and how their Texas public land hog hunt is going so far.

Hunts for Heroes Outfitters is an organization dedicated to getting service members, first responders and their families involved in outdoor activities. Justin and Jordan have been hosting a public land hog hunt in Texas for several years and a whitetail deer hunt in Kentucky. They plan to expand to several states and species all with the goal of building relationships and growing a community of servicemen and women that love the outdoors. Texas offers a wide variety of hunting and fishing opportunities and holds few restrictions on feral hogs. The estimate of feral hogs in Texas is currently around 2.6 million and Richland Creek WMA offers a season where non-residents can hunt feral hogs for 5 days for under $100. Justin served 10 years in the US Army and Jordan has served in both volunteer and professional capacities doing search and rescue for local departments.

The Love Hate Relationship with Turkey Hunting Mar 10, 2022

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks hunting buddies Zach Hopper and Sam Maedke all about turkey hunting. Dan shares that he thinks turkey hunting is overrated as Zach and Sam share about their obsessions and successes during turkey season.

Zach has been hunting and fishing since he was 5 years old. Now at 23 he works as the head of marketing for Buck Gardner Calls and is obsessed with waterfowl and turkey hunting. He has a bachelors degree in marketing from Ole Miss and lives in north Mississippi. Zach started waterfowl hunting over 10 years ago and it quickly became his passion. Over the last 10 years he has traveled more and more and hunting new places but still loves to hunt his duck lease in the Mississippi Delta.

Sam is not only a multi-time state champion duck and goose caller, he is also Dan’s cousin and played a huge role in Dan getting into the sport. Sam lives in Two Rivers WI where he is part of N.E.W. Outdoors. Sam is currently helping revamp the goose call line at Buck Gardner Calls where he and Dan both serve as Expert Staff Members. Sam spends his free time scouting or getting his friends and family out into the field.

Unique Ways to Hunt Pressured Whitetail Mar 07, 2022

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Bryan Dunlap from Michigan about strategies for hunting mature whitetails that you won’t hear from most hunters.

Bryan hunts a 200 acre farm in Michigan that only produced 1 1/2 year old whitetail bucks for years. Through food plots, patterning and and a strategy that he refers to as conditioning Bryan has been able to successfully select and harvest 4 1/2 year old and older bucks in a heavily pressured area. This is a long strategy session that is worth the listen for any whitetail hunter. If you hunt pressured areas, enjoy using your hunting land for more than whitetail or just can’t seem to connect with your target buck listen closely as Bryan shares some outside the box strategy for targeting mature whitetails.

Hunting Giant Plains Mule Deer Mar 03, 2022

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Colorado mule deer fanatic Joel Crisman. Joel is a self taught western hunter that is passionate about chasing monster mule deer in Eastern Colorado. Dan and Joel talk about strategies for finding, stalking and

Joel’s outdoor journey started in Iowa fishing for catfish and hunting small game and birds as a kid. After graduating HS he left Iowa to go to college at the University of Southern California on a football scholarship which then led him to play in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Joel has always had a fascination with hunting the West for elk and mule deer, but it wasn’t until he moved to Colorado in 2001 that he started chasing his hunting dreams. “Colorado has just about everything that a person could wish for”. He immediately started hunting elk, waterfowl and upland birds. In 2002 he got his first pointing lab named CJ and his first bow. He started hunting the eastern plains of Colorado for mule deer. Joel had 20 seasons of failures and near misses. After learning from his mistakes and investing in better equipment he has now connected with a number of very large mule deer. “After a number of years I honed my skills. I learned how to glass, judge size, stalk etc. I have killed a number of large mule deer. Now I will pick 1 or 2 bucks a year that I chase with my bow”. Joel is also a part time deer/antelope guide for his buddy Jim Hubbard at Eastern Colorado Outdoors. Besides chasing mule deer he also archery hunts for elk, bear and antelope in Colorado.

Hunting Exotic Animals and Giant Texas Whitetail Feb 28, 2022

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Cody Mills, a passionate axis deer hunting guide, cowboy and whitetail/exotic game breeder from Texas. Cody started guiding with his dad on their family ranch when he was just 12 years old. He was quickly immersed into the world of giant whitetails, guiding axis deer hunts and encountering exotic big game animals. When Cody isn’t guiding for a 20,000 acre operation in Sonora Texas his day to day work consists of running an exotic animal and cattle outfit and maintaining a ranch in Harper. He made a name for himself as the youngest pro staffer for Texas Trophy Hunters Association and has competed in several ASA shoots. He has also become a well known TikTok personality with his bright pearl snap shirts, mustache that rivals Burt Reynolds’ and long flowing locks of hair. This is an awesome BS session for anyone that is interested in Texas and the hunting opportunities that the “Don’t Mess With” state has to offer.

The Next Generation of Hunter Feb 24, 2022

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Jon Peters and his daughter Gracie about getting future generations involved in outdoor activities. Gracie is a nine year old spitfire of an “outdoorsgirl”. She loves naming both her weapons and the animals that she pursues. Gracie decided a year ago that she wanted to hunt. Although her parents never thought it would last, it has quickly become her number one passion. Gracie has been covering her wall with mounts, her shelves with hog skulls and sharing stories from the field with her friends ever since. She is now a year older, has built two rifles, harvested two deer and a hog. She has been on several well known hunting media platforms and has big plans for the future. Grace hopes to connect with a buck this year, and is looking forward to starting archery. If you are interested in what hunting can mean to future generations, this episode is for you!

Andrew started a page called Oak Tree Dreams to share about his passion for the outdoors, to connect with fellow hunters and to encourage people to quit deer shaming. Whether he’s chasing deer during the fall, turkeys in the spring, or watching ducks drop into a spread in the winter Andrew loves being in the field. He started fishing as a kid and spends a lot of summer sitting on the shore or in a boat trying to land a fish. Hunting Elk In Eastern State Feb 17, 2022

On this episode of the Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Jacob Coons all about eastern elk hunting including price, harvest statistics, draw odds and everything to expect when hunting a reintroduced species.

Jacob shares stories of last year's late season cow elk hunt in Kentucky and this year's bull elk hunt in Pennsylvania. “Hunting elk east of the Mississippi is unique, interesting and quite the adventure! A lot of hunters don’t put in for these draws.” Jacob shares his insights and helps knock down some of the perceived barriers for those that have never put in for eastern elk tags. Jacob enjoys using his history in education and love for analytics to create online 101 level courses for those interested in learning more about hunting the east. Jacob has created a KY elk hunt planner and a PA elk hunt planner that will be available in May.
