On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks to one of his favorite all-time guest Jim Matott about a recent bear hunt, an upcoming moose hunt and all the changes that have happened since their first conversation.

Jim Matott is a life long hunter, 7th degree grandmaster, certified trainer and all around Bad A dude from upstate New York. He has been hunting and fishing since age 7 and just finished his 51st consecutive deer season hunting on the same 200 acres. Unfortunately that streak is about to change. A lot of things have changed in Jim’s life since he and Dan last spoke. Dan and Jim cover everything from trees that crush houses to chasing after the continent's largest herbivore. Jim is a wealth of information when it comes to hunting and is a guest that Dan is sure to have on again and again.

Send It Slam Jun 30, 2022

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Brayden Ware from GoWild about his experiences in the outdoors as well as an upcoming music and archery event call Sent It Slam.

Brayden is a Growth Specialist for GoWild. Although he grew up fishing, hunting had to take a backseat throughout high school and college due to his participation in baseball. Brayden has since connected with a childhood friend and fellow hunter and has fallen in love with chasing deer with his bow in his home state of Indiana. Brayden will be participating in his second season archery hunting whitetails from his saddle setup. Dan and Brayden talk about the upcoming event in Louisville Kentucky and what attendees can expect from the first Send It Slam.

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with fellow podcast host and outdoor enthusiast Andrew Muntz. Andrew and Dan have a BS session all about chasing after whitetails and the gear they use to get the job done.

Andrew is a self proclaimed run of the mill average Joe. He is a father of 2 and lives in central Ohio. Andrew didn't grow up in a hunting family, although his family didn’t hunt, they weren't opposed to the idea of it. In his early 20's Andrew started to get into hunting and it has quickly grown into one of his greatest passions. In mid 2021, Andrew and friend Paul Campbell started the O2 podcast, representing Ohio in the Sportsmen's empire. On this episode, Dan and Andrew share all about gear, deer and what hunting means to each of them.

Waterway Deer Hunting Access Jun 17, 2022

On this episode of The nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with fellow Sportsmen’s Empire podcaster and host of Southern Ground Hunting Parker McDonald about using waterways to access unpressured public land.

Parker grew up in the oil patch of West Texas, cutting his teeth on whitetail hunting the “Texas way”. After high school he moved to the deep south in Alabama, and never looked back. Hunting in the south can be challenging, but Parker has learned that with just a little bit of extra effort, you can see high volumes of success hunting southern whitetails on public land. Parker uses boats, kayaks and other means of water transportation to hunt areas of where he can get away from heavy hunting pressure. Dan and Parker discuss the benefits of hunting these areas as well as the tips, tricks and strategies for scouting and picking out the perfect spot. Parker started using these strategies 8 years ago and now takes the show on the road by putting it into practice on public land in multiple states.

On this episode of The nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Mitchell Shirk the host of The Pennsylvania Woodsman Podcast about acquiring new property and how to get the most out of small chunks of hunting land.

Mitchell has been doing land and crop consulting as an Agronomist with Rosetree Consulting in Southeast Pennsylvania. He not only helps growers maximize yield potential and profitability, but also translates farming practices into food plot practices. Mitchell taking a back seat on hunting trips from 4 years old until about 10 when he was able to start hunting. Although he started out by hunting anything and everything that was legal, as time went on Mitchell became passionate about chasing after whitetail deer with a bow. Mitchell has been a student of quality deer management and property manipulation for years as he grew up hunting on a 280 acre chunk of private land. On this episode Dan picks his brain about every possibility he has to maximize deer movement and encounters on his newly signed 10 acre lot in Missouri.

Planning an African Safari Jun 09, 2022

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan and his wife Samantha talk to new acquaintances and soon to be hunting buddies Tony and Emily Zastrow about a joint adventure to South Africa next April.

Tony and Emily were born and raised in Wisconsin. Tony has been carrying around a gun (BB gun) from a very early age but has recently branched out from the traditional tree stand sit for whitetails to chasing a variety of big game animals in Montana, Arizona and South Africa. Emily became a hunter through marriage to Tony. She joined Tony on a few hunts and quickly became passionate about it. After bidding on and winning a trip to South Africa at a banquet they decided to capitalize on the opportunity and get married while they were there. Once Tony and Emily had experienced what African hunting had to offer they new that it would be something they would do again and again. Emily started The Traveling Hunter which she hopes to use as a means to help others plan and execute dream hunts.

Turkey Season Recap Jun 06, 2022

On this episode of The nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Austin Reinold from Just One Outdoors and Sam Maedke from N.E.W. Outdoors about the successes, failures and best encounters they had during the 2022 Turkey Season.

Austin Reinold is a Missouri native who got into turkey hunting late in life. Austin successfully harvested his first turkey last fall with his bow but shares his experiences chasing after birds with and without Dan this spring. Sam has been hunting his entire life and in the past several years found himself getting hooked on chasing that sweet spring thunder. In this episode Dan, Austin and Sam share about their most memorable moments from the season including very close calls, successes and abnormal animal encounters. After looking back on the season Dan and Austin finally admit that they are turning into die hard turkey hunters. Stick around for the end because Dan shares some exciting news about a new hunting property.

The Ultimate Turkey Pursuit Jun 02, 2022

On this episode of The nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with David Faulk about his experience growing up in the woods and waters of Arkansas and his pursuit of the Royal, Grand and Super Turkey Slams.

David was born and raised in central Arkansas. He bass fished competitively in high school and some in college when time allowed. After High School he attended MS State where he obtained a degree in wildlife & fisheries science. During college David got hooked on turkey hunting. After college he moved to Colorado and was able to harvest his first elk and antelope which sparked yet another outdoor passion. To this day David bow and rifle hunts deer in his home state, as well as guides duck hunts. His turkey hunting passions have consumed his life and he spends most of his spring pursuing turkeys across the U.S. as he attempts to complete the U.S. Super Slam. David completed his Grand Slam in 2021, and completed the Royal Slam in Mexico this spring (2022).

As a Christian, David’s passion for the outdoors is driven by the pursuit of Creation, “There is nothing more rejuvenating and more peaceful than time spent outdoors.”

Louisiana Hunting and Fishing May 30, 2022

On this episode of The nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Clay Lewis, an all around outdoorsman from Louisiana. Dan and Clay discuss everything from bow hunting to fly fishing for redfish.

Clay is a 23 year old Louisiana native. Clay grew up hunting and fishing and harvested his first deer at the age of six, needless to say he has been hooked ever since. Clay is passionate about a variety of outdoor activities including catfishing, bowfishing, archery hunting whitetails and has recently gotten hooked on coyote hunting. No matter what he’s doing Clay just loves making memories in the outdoors. Clay recently started a youtube channel in pursuit of his dreams of becoming an outdoor content creator. Clay is married to his wife Audra who is equally passionate about the outdoors.
