    Show notes

David & Lisa Spira of Room Escape Artist join us to talk about THIS WEEKEND'S RECON: Reality Escape Convention.

Original planned out as an in-person event in Boston, they've put in a whole lot of work to raise the bar on the online replacement.

Episode 260: Remembering 'Then She Fell' Aug 14, 2020
    Show notes

On Monday of this week NYC's Third Rail Projects announced the end of Then She Fell, the seminal immersive production which inspired countless fans and creators, after seven and a half years and 4,444 performances due to the ongoing pandemic.

That night we asked our team to gather in our Discord, along with some friends, to share memories and talk about what the show meant to them.

You can also find our tribute post on the website.

Webbed Toes 5: White Agony of the Only Child Aug 07, 2020
    Show notes

So our already planned bye week nearly got a bit more "bye" to it. The plan was to drop the next installment of Webbed Toes... but when I opened up the files this morning it turns out that Craig, our Discord recording tool, had basically eaten Zay's track up and turned him into a squirrel. Luckily I had been paranoid about Craig that week, and used Audio Hijack to record the session as a backup. Even better: I REMEMBERED that I did that about halfway through writing this post and telling you all we'd have no episode. This time out: our favorite episode of the series so far, some Robotech talk, and the subtle art of subverting musical homages to avoid lawsuits. EPISODES DISCUSSED JAW$ The Golden Lagoon of White Agony Plains Day of the Only Child Your assignment for next time: From the Casefiles of Agent 22 Who is Gizmoduck? The Other Bin of Scrooge McDuck Sky Pirates... in the Sky!

    Episode 259: Sean Stewart - Roundabout Jul 31, 2020
    Show notes

Sean Stewart has been a lot of things in his storied career in telling stories. Novelist, LARPwright, actor, theatre tech, and most famously of all: one of the creators of the modern Alternate Reality Game.

Now add "internationally produced playwright" to the list.

Sean and Noah talk about his upcoming interactive play Roundabout, which will be performed by students of Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art via Twitch, and the evolving nature of theatre (yes with the "re") in the Pandemic Age.

Episode 257: Little Cinema DIGITAL Jul 17, 2020
    Show notes

Jay Rinsky, the founder, CEO, and creative director of the NYC based Little Cinema is back on the show to talk about the arrival of Little Cinema Digital. This new venture from the production company has seen the theatre professionals pivot into creating a video platform of their own.

They've been using it to host premiere parties for television shows, complete with online versions of the elaborate, immersive afterparties Little Cinema is known for. This weekend the public will get a taste with Who Killed Alejandro Valdez? - a free fan event that celebrates the launch of the second season of TNT's The Alienist with a murder mystery party that shows off Little Cinema's fantastic new platform.

Along for the ride are producer and assistant director Eli Bork, and actor Kelley Pierre - who some members of our LA audience may recognize from her live-action immersive work.

Webbed Toes: The DuckTales Footnotes - "Impossibly: The Spear of Selene" Jul 10, 2020
    Show notes

Our side-track podcast covering the 2017 DuckTales reboot returns with Zay and Noah.

This time out: The Living Mummies of Toth-RA The Impossible Summit of Mount Neverest & The Spear of Selene

Content Advisory: starting at around 53 minutes we discuss the evidence of mental abuse and sexual coercion perpetrated by comic book writer Warren Ellis. It had bubbled up on social media the day that we’re recording. It makes sense in context, and I’d even argue that to not bring it up would have been more inappropriate given the context. However, I know that it’s not a topic you’d expect in a conversation about what is, ostensibly, a kids' TV show. The discussion lasts until around 1hour and 12 minutes.

    Episode 255: The Telelibrary Jul 03, 2020
    Show notes

Virtual spaces can exist without VR headsets, and they can truly be wonders. This is an episode about one such space.

Yannick Trapman-O'Brien, creator of The Telelibrary joins us to talk about how getting stuck traveling in the pandemic and a whole lot of phone calls contributed to the development of his unique creation.

Episode 254: Like Real People Do: Long Distance Relationships Division Jun 26, 2020
    Show notes

Linked Dance Theatre's Kendra Slack and Jordan Chlapecka join us to talk about Like Real People Do: Long Distance Relationships Division, the online edition of their dance-theatre series that explores relationships and memories. Blending character-based interactions, filmmaking, and site-responsive dance, this latest entry in the series overcomes the limits of online video to create a world that's equal parts whimsical and bittersweet.
