Show notes
Former Alabama Crimson Tide national championship quarterback Jake Coker joins Mick Gillispie on another episode of Last Call to break down the biggest storylines coming out of Alabama Football fall camp — including the battle between Keelon Russell and Austin Mack, injuries in the Crimson Tide running back room, emerging playmakers and much more.
Who has the edge in the Alabama quarterback competition? Coker and Gillispie discuss what Keelon Russell's ability to create outside the pocket could mean in his battle with Austin Mack, while also looking at the competition and chemistry developing along the Alabama offensive line.
The guys also dive into the Crimson Tide's running back depth, the impact of AK Dear's injury, and the players getting opportunities to step up. Plus, they discuss the development of Ryan Williams and Daniel Hill as Alabama searches for its next wave of offensive playmakers.
Coker also shares some incredible memories of Derrick Henry's legendary work ethic at Alabama, including the kind of weight-room dedication that helped turn Henry into one of the most physically dominant running backs in college football and the NFL.
Then the conversation shifts to Baton Rouge and the growing controversy involving Jayden Daniels and LSU's No. 5 jersey. Coker explains why he believes the program should always be bigger than one individual player and compares the situation to his own experience wearing No. 14 at Alabama, a number previously worn by Crimson Tide names including Don Hutson, Steve Sloan, Tyler Watts and John Parker Wilson.
