Today I talk with Lisa Tahir, psychotherapist and founder of Psychoastrology, about her unique therapeutic approach that lives at the intersection between our personal psychology and our natal astrology. Show notes

Do you ever feel overwhelmed or even oppressed by all the "shoulds" in your life? You should order the salad, you should work out today, you should work late on that project, you should clean the house, you should, you should, you should. Well, according to today's guest—rock-and-roll roadie turned "joyologist" Tricia Huffman—all those "shoulds" are causing nothing but mayhem and misery in our lives. Instead, we need to do a better job of getting back to ourselves and understanding what we want, what we need, and why. It's a wonderful message and a brilliant way to own who we really are each and every day.

E48: Going Beyond Food & Diet for True Inner Well-Being with Kimberly Snyder May 01, 2022
    Show notes

When most of us think about wellness, we automatically go to the physical. The tangible. Things like food. Are you getting enough riboflavin? Are you getting enough omega-3 fatty acids? And that's important, sure. But many people end up focusing on minutiae to the point that they neglect the most important formless cornerstones of health: emotional well-being, mental health, spiritual growth. In today's conversation, I talk with nutritionist and New York Times best-selling author Kimberly Snyder about how we can do a better job of nourishing ourselves in all the most important ways—physical and nonphysical—to lead happier, more joyous lives.

E47: The Big Myth About Life Coaching Apr 24, 2022
    Show notes

Many people assume the job of a life coach is to give advice. But there's a problem with this approach. One of the fundamentals of any coaching relationship is that the client is always the expert on themselves. This means that the coach can't just show up with all the answers. Instead, their real job is to help guide the client to find their own inner wisdom and hold them accountable to the commitment they've made to themselves. In today's episode, Nancy dives into this topic and explains how to approach coaching sessions in a way that leads to better results that are more consistent with the client's beliefs and goals.

E46: From Heroin Overdose to World-Traveling Digital Nomad with Francis Nayan Apr 17, 2022
    Show notes

Francis Nayan has a pretty incredible story. From the age of seven, he always knew he wanted to travel and see the world. But when he fell into a heroin addiction that led to an overdose, he felt as if all his dreams would never be more than that—dreams. But he managed to bounce back from rock bottom and reinvent himself as a world-traveling digital nomad. I think we can all take lessons from his story, like the importance of being open to change, setting firm boundaries with clients, and forgiving ourselves over past mistakes.

E45: Live Coaching: Getting to the Root of Your People-Pleasing Tendencies Apr 10, 2022

Do you find yourself taking responsibility for other people's unhappiness? Do you often feel like it's your job to fix things whenever someone else is dissatisfied or uncomfortable? In this episode, I coach Jen, a student in my Levin Life Coach Academy who's getting certified as a life coach. She has a tendency to put herself in a place of suffering in order to make others feel better. It's one of the hallmark traits of a people pleaser—and I've got some experience with that. Listen in for a peek behind the curtain into a coaching session where I help her explore this tendency and gain more insight into some of the unconscious motivations behind her behavior.

Intimate relationships are such a vital part of our lives, and yet from time to time we all struggle to maintain an honest, trusting relationship with our partner. I know I did. I was married many years ago, and as a people-pleaser, I suppressed my personal wants and needs in order to fulfill my husband's. If this is an issue for you, you've got to listen to today's episode with Alexandra Stockwell, M.D., best-selling author of Uncompromising Intimacy. She sheds light on common relationship pitfalls, such as high-performing women who don't feel they get the support they need. Alexandra and I talk about how to grow a more passionate and fulfilling relationship—one where both partners receive the support they need to thrive individually and together.
