Lost: Missing Persons, UFOs, and High Strangeness | MHP 05.08.23. May 09, 2023

Show notes

Few perennial mysteries intrigue us more than people who vanish. Throughout history, there have been countless examples of cases involving individuals who went missing under unusual circumstances, many of which were never found. But are there truly any cases that point to extraordinary phenomena that could have been related to people's disappearances?

In this installment of The Micah Hanks Program, following a review of recent UFO-related news, we take a critical look at several modern disappearances and the purported high strangeness that is often associated with such incidents, along with what U.S. crime statistics say. Finally, we address the question of whether unidentified aerial phenomena has actually ever been linked to cases where individuals have vanished under odd circumstances.

UAP: Knowns, Unknowns, and Uncertainties | MHP 05.01.23. May 02, 2023

Show notes

On June 2, 1964, Charles Davis, a youth living near the town of Hobbs, New Mexico, had been playing outside in full view of his grandmother when a small, top-shaped black object swooped down from the sky and hovered over him, dumping a shower of flames onto the frightened child. Although he said he could feel no pain, Davis was left temporarily disfigured after the incident, and prefers today not to talk about UFOs.

What were the objects that young Charles Davis, and many others have had seemingly terrifying encounters with over the years? In this installment of The Micah Hanks Program, we look at potentially harmful cases involving UAP, and whether they should cause us to rethink many of our presumptions about the nature and possible intention of the phenomenon.

Garry Nolan: UAP Analysis and Anomalous Pathology | MHP 04.19.23. Apr 26, 2023

Show notes

Since 2017, reports of unusual encounters U.S. military personnel have had with anomalous aerial phenomena have seen renewed debate among the military, the media, and the academic community. Meanwhile, an undercurrent of cases involving anomalous health incidents has also gradually come to the attention of the intelligence community; but could there be a relationship between the two, and if so, what is it?

This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we are joined by Garry Nolan, a Stanford University professor of pathology who discusses his groundbreaking research into anomalous health incidents, and their possible relationship to UAP, as well as the analysis of materials purportedly recovered from anomalous aerial vehicles.

The Senate Hearings on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena | MHP 04.19.23. Apr 20, 2023

Show notes

On April 19, 2023, a hearing by the Senate Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities was held that focused on the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), and its assessment of unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP.

Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, director of AARO and witness in attendance for the Senate hearing, discussed common shapes of UAP, as well as their flight dynamics and other reported characteristics, along with a pair of new videos that are part of AARO's current assessments. This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we dive into the recent hearings, and what they convey about the U.S. government's ongoing assessments of the mysteries in our skies.

The Secret Life of Tom Slick: The CIA and the Search for the Yeti | MHP 04.11.23. Apr 11, 2023

Show notes

In 1957, a wealthy Texas philanthropist and oil tycoon named Tom Slick Jr. was making headlines across the nation. Slick, who had already poured much of his family fortune into the establishment of foundations aimed at exploring various areas of the sciences, was now getting international attention for his plans to launch an expedition in search of a modern mystery: the famous Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas.

However, questions have lingered over whether there could have been more to the purpose of Slick's Yeti-hunting adventure than the public had known... and this week on The Micah Hanks Program, we look at Slick's possible connections to the U.S. intelligence community, and whether the CIA had been involved in espionage with help from the man who, at the time, had become America's most-famous monster hunter.

Area 51 Uncensored: Tales From America's Best-Known Secret Base | MHP 03.05.23. Apr 05, 2023

Show notes

In the heart of the Nevada desert is one of the most legendary and talked about locations in the United States... despite the fact that, until a decade ago, it "officially" didn't exist. However, since the late 1980s, the secret Air Force installation known as Area 51 has remained almost synonymous with UFOs, thanks in large part to Bob Lazar, a man who in addition to claiming to have worked there, also said he saw recovered alien craft at the base.

This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we go in pursuit of the modern legends that have become associated with Area 51, how it became a mainstay of American conspiracy theories, and look at the history--as well as the speculations--involving America's best-known secret base.

Superintelligence: An A.I. Takeover Scenario | MHP 03.27.23. Mar 27, 2023

Show notes

By the early years of the new millennium, experts were already sounding alarms about the potential threat that machine intelligence might eventually pose to humanity. As of 2023, following the arrival of AI tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard—enhanced performance chatbots that many view as little more than party tricks—the race to create genuinely intelligent machines seems to be fully underway... but where will it go from here, and what are the dangers that could result from the creation of a genuine machine superintelligence?

This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we look at several potential future scenarios involving the creation of an A.I. superintelligence, how machines could one day rise against humanity, and what that could mean for humankind in the decades ahead. Will A.I. become our saviors, or our overlords?

Law Enforcement Encounters with UAP | MHP 03.21.23 Mar 21, 2023

Show notes

Throughout the mid-1970s, several incidents occurred throughout the United States involving law enforcement encounters with UAP. Involving multiple witnesses to the aerial phenomena in question, some of the incidents also resulted in real-time recordings of police dispatch calls featuring descriptions of the objects police officers sighted.

This week, we examine several of these incidents, and examine the broader significance of law enforcement encounters with UAP, as well as what such cases may convey about the phenomenon on The Micah Hanks Program.

The Hunt for an Invisible Killer: Colorado's Mystery Cattle Deaths | MHP 03.14.23. Mar 14, 2023

Show notes

In October 2022, dozens of cattle were found dead under mysterious circumstances on U.S. Forest Service property along Colorado's Western Slope. Although initially believed to have involved wolf depredation, as officials closed the investigation earlier this year, there was no evidence to support the presence of any kind of predator, and the cause of the strange deaths remains unknown.

This week, in the aftermath of the mysterious spate of cattle deaths that baffled ranchers in Colorado last year, we present the results of an investigation based on official documents and interviews with investigators who worked to track down an unknown, "invisible" livestock killer on this week's episode of The Micah Hanks Program.

Physics of the Phenomenon: A New Scientific Perspective on Aerial Mysteries | MHP 03.06.23. Mar 06, 2023

Show notes

In a recent bombshell scientific paper, Harvard astronomer and head of the Galileo Project Avi Loeb joined forces with Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, the director of the DoD's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office to make the argument for "physical constraints" they say can be applied to unidentified aerial phenomena.

"Claims of objects exceeding the transonic to supersonic range," the authors argue in the paper, should be studied based on the "known physics of ionization, radar reflectivity, temperature, sonic booms, and fireballs." Avi Loeb joins us to discuss this unique paper, as well as the equally novel collaboration that produced it, and how it could provide significant benefits to future studies involving UAP, on this week's episode of The Micah Hanks Program.
