EP. 70 | Keri Young [Finding Grace Between Heaven and Earth] Feb 04, 2020
    Show notes

Halfway through Keri Young’s pregnancy, she and her husband, Royce, were blindsided with devastating news: their baby girl didn’t have a brain. In the blink of a moment, joy-filled expectation turned excruciatingly terminal.

What happened in the following months was tragic, heart-wrenching, and shockingly beautiful. To be honest, it feels ridiculously insufficient to try and conjure up adequate words—you’ll just have to join us at The Messy Table.

“The reunification is coming and this pain will be worth it.” —Keri Young

Can we still have hope in a world full of grief? In today’s episode, Keri is sharing about her precious girl, Eva Grace, as well as her journey of finding grace between heaven and earth.

EP. 67 | Amy Groeschel [Surviving the High Expectations of Motherhood—and Christmas!] Dec 10, 2019
    Show notes

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Until it isn’t. Throw in some impossibly high expectations, plus a hefty dash of comparison, and we’ve got ourselves a bunch of stressed-out women who never feel like enough.

Today at The Messy Table, Amy Groeschel is shedding light on the ridiculous (but real) pressure we face to GET IT ALL RIGHT, especially when it comes to motherhood. It’s a weight that sits so comfortable on our shoulders, we don’t always realize its brutal impact.

“I decided that day, relationships were what mattered—not tidy houses and not perfect children.” Amy Groeschel

Whether you have kiddos or not, Amy’s perspective on surviving the unrealistic expectations of motherhood (and Christmas!) might just give you the courage to toss the measuring stick and walk confidently in freedom.

EP. 66 | Kim Duncan [Embracing the Untraditional :: Singles, Stepmoms, and Blended Families] Nov 26, 2019
    Show notes

Happy almost-Thanksgiving, friends! Time for some turkey, board games, and pumpkin spice everything. But as we head into the holidays, we’re reminded that this season can be a MAGNIFIER. The good times are great and the hard times can be overwhelmingly hard—especially for those in untraditional settings.

In today’s episode at The Messy Table, Kim Duncan recounts how she embraced the single life in her 20s, became a wife and instant-mom (in one day!) in her 30s, and eventually added a few more biological kiddos to their beautifully blended family. Now, she’s sharing ALL KINDS OF WISDOM she’s gathered along the journey and is still leaning into today.

“Had we tried to script the story of our family, I still think we would’ve fallen short of what God actually did.” —Kim Duncan

Y’all, Kim KNOWS what it’s like to step into the uncharted, the unknown, the untraditional—and still proclaim God’s faithfulness on the other side. Her perspective is absolutely stunning and SO VERY IMPORTANT. Join us!

    Show notes

You know those stories that leave you speechless? Stories so heartrending, so tender, so nearly impossible to comprehend. Stories that provoke you to punch somebody while simultaneously beckoning you to worship.

Today at The Messy Table, Jessica Laure’l Hall holds nothing back as she chats with LaTonya Pratt and me—unveiling the shaky foundation on which she was raised. The sexual abuse. The twisted manipulation. The darkest parts of her past that were intercepted with light.

“Your story isn’t over yet.” —Jessica Laure’l Hall

Jessica is a wife, mama, child therapist, and lifestyle + faith blogger who is passionate about encouraging women—no matter their background—to let God rewrite their stories.

    Show notes

Is it possible to have joy in the depths of suffering? To find peace in a pit of despair? To cling to faith during the thrashing of a storm? Y’all, today’s episode at The Messy Table is a PERSPECTIVE SHIFTER.

While serving her slowly deteriorating mother over the course of several years, Jennifer Cantrell uncovered the seemingly contradictory gifts that come with NOT refusing the hard things, along with God’s presence in the face of grief.

“We can flourish in trial—if we’re tapped into the right source.” Jennifer Cantrell

GOOD NEWS: A time is coming when every tear will be wiped away and death will be swallowed up by life. Until then, our suffering is not without purpose and our trials are not without joy.

EP. 62 | Rebekah Lyons [Rhythms of Renewal] Oct 01, 2019
    Show notes

If you haven’t noticed, our world is rapidly increasing in all things stress, anxiety, depression, and fear. Have you felt it? Frenzied and frantic have become the norm; overwhelmed and overextended are flaunted like crowns of honor.

But we don’t have to live like this. YOU don’t have to live like this.

Today, Rebekah Lyons is joining me at The Messy Table, where she’s divulging the tangled backstory that’s led to her greatest passion: helping set women FREE. She’s also launching her newest book, Rhythms of Renewal, into the world on this very day!

“Getting to the end of myself—yet again—allowed Him to begin.” REBEKAH LYONS

Rebekah is a wife, mama, writer, and an advocate for freedom, mental health, adoption, and for those—like her youngest and oldest kiddos—with Down syndrome. She’s also the bestselling author of You Are Free and Freefall to Fly, as well as the co-founder of Q Ideas and co-host of the Rhythms for Life Podcast with her husband, Gabe.

If you’re ready to trade stress and anxiety for a life of peace and purpose, this episode is the perfect place to start.

EP. 61 | Molly Allen [Choosing Life When Things Get Dark] Sep 17, 2019
    Show notes

Truth? It’s hard to talk about anxiety and depression, especially that which knocks on even darker doors. But we need to talk about it. We MUST talk about it.

A week ago, Cindy Beall and I sat down with Molly Allen as she shared her powerful story. A story of generational wounds, recently triggered by postpartum depression. A story of darkness and light; brokenness and restoration; devastation and hope.

Afterward someone mentioned that it happened to be World Suicide Prevention Day. (Seriously?!) Then we heard about a beloved pastor, husband, and dad who, in a moment of sheer desperation, took his own life.

“I am made new in Christ. I do have the power to create new thoughts. I do have the power to create a different future—if I choose life, if I choose Him.” Molly Allen

Guys, this episode was scheduled to air NEXT month, however, we felt stirred to fight back TODAY. To ditch the plan, lean into the tension, and unleash Molly’s story into the world as quickly as possible.

If you’ve ever wondered how someone can choose LIFE, even when things get overwhelmingly DARK, we’d love for you to join us. There is hope. You’re not alone. Let’s push back the darkness together.
