Amburana finishing has taken the bourbon world by storm. However, not everyone is on board with this latest craze. People seem to either love or hate it. Last week, we traveled out west to taste a finished bourbon and this week we stick to our own backyard. RD One Spirits, established right here in Lexington, KY in 2020, is a relatively new craft distiller that is making a splash in the bourbon world. On the advice of one of our best listeners who recently visited RD One on his trip to Kentucky, we taste and review RD One's Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished with Brazilian Amburana Wood. Spoiler alert -- this bourbon is like nothing we've ever tasted before. But, do we mean that in a good or bad way? You'll have to give us a listen to find out. Normally we stay within the state of Kentucky, but this week we ventured far out West to Sonoma County, California to taste and review Ammunition Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Cabernet Sauvignon Barrels. The folks at Daylight Wine and Spirits were winemakers first and quickly turned their attention to bourbon. Even though they have been producing bourbon since 2017, none of us had heard of this product. So what did we think? You'll have to listen to find out. This pour reminded one of us of a very popular bourbon that people stand in line for. This laugh packed episode involves a trip down memory lane for beloved glassware, many thoughts on other wine finished whiskeys, and all types of other fun stuff.

For this episode, we taste and review Little Book Chapter 06: To The Finish. Little Book was created by Freddie Noe and has quickly become a favorite of the fall bourbon release season. In this episode, the guys talk vacation to LA and ultimately ponder if a 4-5 year old heavily smoked, malted, and finished whiskey is worthy of an allocated Fall release. Will the fellas feel the same way as they did back in episode 62 even though this is a completely different whiskey? You'll have to listen to find out.

E112 - Parker’s Heritage Double Barreled Blend Bourbon Jul 14, 2023

Some people have called this the best allocated bourbon of 2022. Others claimed that it was overrated. We are here to settle the debate once and for all! This week we crack open a bottle of Parker's Heritage Double Barreled Blend Bourbon. This is the 16th offering in this series from the Heaven Hill Distillery that honors the legacy of former master distiller Parker Beam. The double barreled blend is a mixture of well aged bourbon (13 & 15 yr barrels) that was matured for an additional month in newly charred barrels. As we taste this bourbon, you'll get to hear us converse about an extra special tasting that Kenny recently took part in, new headphones for Steven, and we'll even check back in with Anthony to see if he can remember what he has and hasn't tasted. This is definitely a fun one!

When you think of Florida - what comes to mind? Surely it’s sunny beaches and top quality oranges. Probably the last thing that anyone associates Florida with is bourbon. However, a distillery located in the heart of America’s oldest city is seeking to change that. St. Augustine Distillery, which was established in 2013, produces numerous spirits and one of its most popular products is Florida Straight Bourbon. This week, we taste and review this bottle and talk about numerous things such as vacation bourbon hunting, shelf clogging, and if Florida wheat is the same as other kinds of wheat. Bernheim Barrel Proof Wheat Whiskey is newest edition to Heaven Hill's barrel proof series, joining Larceny and Elijah Craig. This new offering is between 7-9 years old and clocks in at a hefty 118.8 proof. Similar to it's other barrel proof counterparts, this wheated barrel proof offering is set to be released three times a year. Will the love fest for Heaven Hill continue? Or will the fellas decide that this wheated whiskey might need a little more time in the barrel? You'll have to give us a listen this week to find out. Other things we discusss are bourbon related things in Midway, KY, Y2K, and how many Heaven Hill labels have come and gone in favor of more premium offerings. E107 - Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon B523 Jun 09, 2023

Heaven Hill recently announced that Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon would no longer carry a 12 year age statement. Instead, each batch will have a variable age statement which can be higher or lower than 12 years depending on which barrels make up each batch. This news upset a lot of whiskey geeks, especially since Heaven Hill has become famous for dropping/reinventing age statements over the past few years. Even though we reviewed ECBP in a previous episode (34), we felt it necessary to review the newest batch (B523) since it is the first to carry a sub 12 year age statement. Will we like this as much as previous batches or will we feel cheated? The conversation this week isn't just about bourbon - it's about burgers, video games, and much more!

The Railbird Music Festival in Lexington, Kentucky debuted in 2019 and has quickly become one of the most anticipated annual events for lovers of music and bourbon alike. After some hiccups and extremely hot weather in 2022 left concert goers bewildered, this years version of Railbird looks like it could be the best yet. For this week, we got our hands on one of the many single barrel picks that will be available exclusively at this year's festival compliments of the good folks at Justin's House of Bourbon. The Penelope Architect bourbon series features different mashbills and a variety of french oak finishing options. You'll get to hear about how this Railbird pick of Penelope Architect came to be from one of the people who helped select it. Even though the original mashers are still on hiatus, Kenny and Caleb are back along with Anthony to talk about a variety of topics including what you can expect at this year's festival and what we think of this Penelope pick.
