Fresh Bourbon is for everyone! Started in 2017 by co-owners Tia and Sean Edwards, Fresh Bourbon is an African American owned brand that is right here in Lexington, Kentucky. The bourbon itself has a unique four grain mashbill that includes honey malt. The Fresh Bourbon Distillery was recently opened in the downtown Lexington area. They have an awesome tasting room and plans to expand the footprint and be an entertainment destination. But, how does the bourbon taste? You'll have to listen to find out. We've had the opportunity to do some really cool stuff since we started this journey with all of you. However, this conversation is one of the best we've had yet. For this episode, we had an epic share and conversation with Bruce Russell of Wild Turkey, Dan Shook and Sean Paisley of the famed YouTube channel Bourbon Junkies, and Ryan Alves of Bourbonoutfitter.com/JHOB. Many have said that whiskey is best shared with friends and this conversation is proof of that. Dan and Sean discuss their path from humble beginnings as a YouTube startup all the way to their recent venture into owning their own brand, EverNorth Spirits Company. Bruce discusses what it was like growing up around all things Turkey, his evolution into his current role as associate blender, and also gives us a glimpse into some things to look forward to. This conversation can only be described as the perfect blend. For only the second time in the history of The Mash Up, this episode contacts some bad language. E183 - Parker's Heritage Collection 14 Year Malt Whiskey Cognac Finished Sep 06, 2024

The 18th release of the Parker's Heritage Collection is very unique. It features a 14 year old malt whiskey which is finished for four months in deconstructed cognac barrels. The result? You'll have to listen to find out. This isn't the first time Heaven Hill has used malt or cognac finishing in the Parker's series so we were very eager to dive into this one. The conversation is equally as riveting as the whiskey review with Kenny discussing a recent barrel selection at Wild Turkey that is accompanied by an epic story. In the past, if you were lucky enough to pick a barrel of Elijah Craig at Heaven Hill, chances are that it was watered down to 94 proof. For the last few years, stores and private groups have had the option of selecting at 94 proof or opting for true barrel strength. Recently, Anthony has the opportunity to help the good folks at Jackson's Wine and Spirits select two barrels of Elijah Craig at barrel proof. Jackson's is family owned liquor store right here in Lexington, KY and they always have good barrel picks and other unique bourbons available for purchase. On episode 157 of The Mash Up, we introduced and reviewed Raconteur Rye which is a blended rye whiskey collaboration brought to us by none other than David Jennings (Rare Bird 101) and the good folks over at the WoodWork Collective. Raconteur Rye Batch # 1 was very well received. It sold out instantly and left people clamoring for more. Well...the wait is almost over. Raconteur Rye Batch # 2 will be released in September! Once again, this rye whiskey starts as an MGP product which is expertly finished in different types of barrels. We loved the first release, but how does batch # 2 compare? You'll have to listen to find out. Not only do we have a ton of fun, but we blind batches 1 & 2 to give you the ultimate analysis. For this very special episode, we had a chance to sit down and discuss Kentucky Senator Bourbon with co-founders Damon Thayer and Andre Regard. Kentucky Senator is a brand that was originally distilled by Crigler & Crigler in Covington, Kentucky and then by Double Spring Distillers in Bardstown. In 2019, Thayer and Regard revived the brand and laid the foundation for what looks to be a very promising brand for years to come. While some non-distiller producers operate under a veil of secrecy, these guys believe in full transparency. They really want to partner with Kentucky distillers to showcase the best of what the bluegrass has to offer. These two gentlemen are true ambassadors of the Commonwealth and the story of Kentucky Senator Bourbon (past, present, and future) is fascinating and inspiring. E177 - Michter's Toasted Barrel Bourbon Aug 16, 2024

Michter's Toasted Bourbon is a limited release offering that does not come around annually. In fact, since 2014, this whiskey has only been released a total of four times (with the latest being in 2021). We recorded this episode on August 12th. On the very next day, Michter's put out a press release to announce that Toasted Barrel Bourbon would be released this Fall (24') to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first release. We joked throughout the episode about this potentially happening, but now it is a reality so you are definitely going to want to hear our thoughts on this bottle. In addition to this all important bottle review, you will also get to hear about the adventures of our very own Kenny Mills and a recent Bourbon Junkies event that he attended called "Bourbon in a Barn." We appreciate all our listeners and want to know if you will be chasing the Michter's Toasted Barrel Bourbon release this Fall.
