E283 - Blinds and Barrel Picks Aug 22, 2025

Show notes

Over the last couple of weeks, we've started to release our very own hand selected barrel picks. A good majority of our community has been clamoring for us to give some tasting notes and discuss what we picked. There is no sugar coating it, in this episode, we cover a lot of ground. We taste, discuss, and review our upcoming barrel picks, but we also mix in some listener blinds. This episode is definitely for the whiskey nerd or the person who likes blinding as much as we do. Give us a listen and let us know what upcoming barrel pick you are most excited for. Cheers!

E282 - Fort Hamilton Single Barrel Rye Whiskey Aug 19, 2025

Show notes

Fort Hamilton Distillery is located in Brooklyn, New York and was founded in 2016 by Alex Clark and his wife Amy Grindeland. We caught up with this dynamic duo during our recent trip to the Hoochenanny Whiskey and Music festival. Fort Hamilton strives to make an array of spirits, but the brand was founded on the premise of creating authentic New York style rye that was popular before prohibition. In this episode, you will get to hear our interview with Alex that took place at the festival and you will also get to here our opinion of their rye whiskey once we arrived back in Kentucky and revisited it. We've never done an episode like this for the podcast and you won't want to miss it. Alex is a fascinating individual and he brings an unparalleled energy to whiskey making and his brand. We had very limited experience with Fort Hamilton before visiting NY. If you aren't familiar with Fort Hamilton, we promise you will know about them very soon because they are doing some amazing things.

E281 - Four Roses SB Barrel Strength (OESQ) Aug 15, 2025

Show notes

You've heard us talk about Four Roses Single Barrel / Barrel Strength picks many times over. The fact that we've never reviewed one for the podcast is just plain crazy. This week, we taste and review a pick from Bros Liquor in California. Our very own Kenny Mills was part of the pick team. So, tune in to hear our thoughts about this 9.5 year, 122.4 proof OESQ recipe barrel pick. It's safe to say that OESQ isn't traditionally one of the more sought after recipes, but our thoughts on this one might catch you by surprise. In this episode, we also recap our time at the Hoochenanny Whiskey and Music Festival. We had a great time and hope you'll enjoy hearing about our experience.

E280 - Mystery Double Blind Aug 12, 2025

Show notes

We promised that we would actually stick to our word this week and record a "short" episode. However, Kenny threw in one of his classic curveballs. As you will notice, this episode is completely blind. You don't know what the bottle is so you'll just have to listen to find out what bourbon we reviewed and what we thought about it. If this works out, we might do more episodes just like this. Let us know what you think.

E279 - Michter's Legacy Series: Bomberger's & Shenk's (2025) Aug 08, 2025

Show notes

Michter's Legacy Series celebrates the foundational roots and heritage of the brand through two different whiskeys. Shenk's Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey honors John Shenk who founded what would become the Michter's brand all the way back in 1753. Bomberger's Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey honors the time period when the Michter's distillery was known as Bombergers. Each year, Michter's changes the wood finishing techniques and mashbills used in these whiskey to create something unique. This year is no different, but how do these whiskeys taste and how do they compare with last years releases (E199). Join us this week as we talk about traveling to NY, upcoming releases, and of course these two bottles. Cheers.

E278 - New Era Whiskey & Spirits w/Zane Brammell Aug 05, 2025

Show notes

New Era Whiskey and Spirits (NEWS) is new and local non-distiller producer and many people have no idea who they are. Even though they been in business for a little under a year, they generated a lot of unintentional hype when one of their first releases sold for an unbelievable amount on Unicorn Auctions. For this episode, we sit down with one of the with co-founders of NEWS, Zane Brammell. Zane is known to us because he started off as a member of the whiskey community here in Lexington, Kentucky. He first founded a private pick group and then quickly turned took his passion to the next level by co-founding a bourbon business. NEWS sources barrels from many different places, but their overall goal is to get some of the best and most unique whiskey into the hands of the people who will appreciate it the most. Even though many of their releases have gone to private barrel clubs, they do have products that will soon be on retail shelves in Kentucky and in select markets across the nation. So join us this week as we sit down with Zane and learn all about NEWS. It is worth noting that we have partnered with NEWS on some barrel picks and those will be headed your way very soon. New Era Whiskey and Spirits is a company you might not be familiar with right now, but we promise you will know about them in the very near future.

E277 - Old Grand Dad 7 Year Bottled in Bond Aug 01, 2025

Show notes

The Jim Beam distillery recently resurrected a legend and released Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond with a 7 year age statement. This return of age statements to bonded products is a recent trend that we have seen from many legacy distillers. Even though OGD used to carry an 8 year age statement, the return of the product to the shelf with an 7 year age statement and with an MSRP of $40 has been met with a lot of excitement. But how does the bourbon taste? More importantly, how does it stack up to some of it's recently released counter parts from other distilleries? Give us a listen this week to find out. It is worth noting that Kenny and Cam from Drums & Drams already did this blind and recorded it. We are working to get that video out ASAP, but the results in this episode did not match what Kenny & Cam did previously. Ohh boy. Cheers.

E276 - Old Forester President's Choice Bourbon & Rye Jul 29, 2025

Show notes

Once only available at the distillery in Louisville, Old Forester President's Choice is now available nationwide. Also, for the very first time, rye is now part of the lineup. Join us this week as we review the most recent bottles to release in the Old Forester President's Choice series. Donning the seal of approval from Campbell Brown (President of Old Forester), this highly sought after product is dubbed as some of the most rare and unique whiskey that is bottled at Old Forester. But how does it taste? Our take on this one will likely catch you a bit off guard. While we did enjoy these whiskeys, our thought process changed when we introduced some blinds and Anthony even traveled into some uncharted territory.

E275 - Blood Oath Pact No. 11 Jul 25, 2025

Show notes

It's kind of crazy to think that the Blood Oath series has been around since 2015 -- yet we've never talked about it on the podcast. A "limited" annual release from Lux Row Distillers, Blood Oath is a unique offering that changes each year and showcases the ability of master distiller and industry veteran, John Rempe. Each year, Rempe selects the base stocks of whiskey for this project and then they are married and often times finished to create something that "shall never again be made." Pact No. 11 is a blend of 7-10-14 year old bourbons (different recipes) that are finishing in tequila barrels. We've all tried tequila that has been finished in bourbon barrels, but this type of offering is new to us. Our take on this one may surprise you. In this episode, we talk Patreon, Ozzy, and all barrel picks in addition to giving you our thoughts on this LE.

E274 - Sip & Chill w/Rare Bird 101 and Alves Jul 22, 2025

Show notes

On the heels of our Patreon launch last week, we were planning business as usual and then we heard our friend David Jennings aka Rare Bird 101 would be in town. Just as we were making plans to record, Alves aka Alvisss said he would joining us as well. The result? A really fun hang with some epic pours. Even though this is an incredibly long episode, we promise that it is worth the listen. You'll get to hear some upcoming news from DJ about Caleb's Crossing and Raconteur Rye. You'll also hear news about some upcoming picks that we have planned. However, the best part of this episode is the camaraderie and jokes shared between friends.
