Episode 426 - No Class Zombies! Jul 11, 2016

Show notes

These no-job-having zombies are a drain on the fragile (and tentacled) Innistradian economy! Once we overthrow this giant monster cosmic horror thing, they either need to become productive members of society or they need to go right back where they came from, whether that be a hole in the ground, the bottom of the sea, or all the way back to Hell itself! Make Innistrad great again!

Oh yeah, we're looking at the full Eldritch Moon set. It's pretty awesome.

Episode 425 - Gisalf, Big Pile of Nope Jul 03, 2016

Show notes

It's preview time! We're running through the Eldritch Moon cards that have been revealed thus far. Emrakul or not, the set looks pretty cool thus far. We've got good and useful new mechanics, expected returning mechanics, new takes on double-faced cards, tentacles, gentacles, not-quite-werewolves, and one amazing horse.

Oh, and Meld. You can turn two normal-sized creature cards into one hugely awesome creature card. It's a mechanic that is big, dumb, awesome, stupid, pointless, brilliant, and amazing all at once, and I personally can't wait to meld something together just once. That's all I need!

My horse is amazing.

Episode 424 - Rise of the Eldrazi, Part 4 Jun 26, 2016

Show notes

On this episode we're spending the entire time discussing the big Emrakul reveal for Eldritch Moon. We go into detail about our reactions so everyone understands exactly what we're disappointed about and why. We really like the three cards they revealed though! We touched on a few other things, and you can find links to those things below!

Episode 423 - Beginning Our Journey (MTG RPG) Jun 19, 2016

Show notes

It is time! We're finally getting started on the Magic RPG that Brian cooked up! We created our characters back in Episode 407, so if you haven't listened to that you might consider doing that first. Only the first hour is character creation if that helps.

We had a good time on our initial outing as Alaric, Karim, and The Angel, getting sucked out of the Blind Eternities and into a strange new world. Now if only I could find a sword...

Be sure to let us know what you think! Bear in mind this is our first time actually playing Brian's game, so go easy on us. Actually it's Brian's first time as GM too. Actually, only Mike has done any tabletop RPGing more than once. So we're basically all new at this. Be kind and give us some feedback!

Three Questions: GP Charlotte 2016 part 2 Jun 19, 2016

Show notes

It's that time again! I went to a Grand Prix, so now you get more Three Questions! This is the first of four shows from GP Charlotte 2016.

When I find myself at a big Magic tournament, I take my trusty digital recorder and ask lots of people three questions that are a bit silly, because I'm not going to ask serious hard-hitting stuff to players between rounds, to judges during their shift, and to everyone else while they're doing...whatever it is they're doing. Besides, my off-the-wall questions put them on the spot and reveal a little bit more about who they are as a person and as a Magic player.

I was all over the place in this episode. I bothered two SCG employees, Ben Bleiweiss and Jeremy Noell. I grabbed some former and current podcasters in Chris Lansdell, Joe Gardner, Alex Okowita, and Houston GingerAle. I had fun talking to Emma Handy, who writes about MTG every week. I even got answers from both ends of the spectrum, with pro players Craig Wescoe and Adrian Sullivan, and non-Magic player Andrea Robinson, who made the mistake of being with Adrian when I snagged him. Is no one safe? Won't someone think of the children?

Nope.

I hope you guys enjoyed the extra work I put into these. Once I had the idea to include everyone's musical response, I couldn't not do it, you know? Be sure to hit me with your answers to these Three Questions!

Episode 422 - A Few Relaxing Segments Jun 13, 2016

Show notes

On this episode, the dorks have decided to take it nice and easy. Nothing stressful, nothing brain-intensive, just some simple segments that we can have some fun with. So we're starting out with a good old Magic Mad Lib! Cleanse!

After that, we're flexing our creative muscles with a pair of Commander Story Circles using two Standard-legal legendary creatures! They're both pretty awesome, which is good because they were the only ones in Standard worth building around that we hadn't done already. Let us know what you think about the decks we built!

Episode 421 - Nostalgic Masters Jun 05, 2016

Show notes

Since the full set of Eternal Masters dropped after just four days of previews (and we were in there! Yay!), we're spending this episode just looking at the Card Image Gallery. We're reminiscing about the cards in here we know and love, and...that's actually about it. There's a bit of discussion about why some cards are here, a bit of talk about what's not here, and plenty of tangenting and nonsense like you'd expect!

Three Questions: GP Charlotte 2016 part 1 Jun 01, 2016

Show notes

It's that time again! I went to a Grand Prix, so now you get more Three Questions! This is the first of four shows from GP Charlotte 2016.

On this episode I spoke to a pretty good variety of players. I hit up some listeners in JT, Sexy Jarod, and AJ. I bothered judges Michael "Scary Judge" Arrowsmith, Casey Brefka, and Charles Featherer. I tormented fellow podcasters Bill Bloodworth of Monday Night Magic & Enchant World and Jordan Kennedy, formerly of At Your End Step. And to round it out there's MTG cosplayer extraordinaire Christine Sprankle and WotC coverage guy (and Pro Tour Champion) Jacob Van Lunen and his lovely wife Tara and ADORABLE daughter Luna. And how about we finish off the episode with SCG's own sexy robot, judge, and tournament-runner guy Jared Sylva, who has a baaaaaad feeling about this. Sometimes it really sucks to be right all the time doesn't it?

I hope you guys enjoyed the extra work I put into this one. Once I had the idea to include everyone's musical response, I couldn't not do it, you know? Be sure to hit me with your answers to these Three Questions!

Episode 419 - Recapturing the Magic May 15, 2016

Show notes

We weren't terribly excited about Battle for Zendikar. We were SUPER excited about Shadows Over Innistrad. What's the difference between these two sets? We're diving into the differences between both cases of nostalgia to figure out what's going on here. And since Brian's not here, we spend a lot of time rambling and tangenting in his honor. And because that's sort of what we do.

Be sure to stick around until the very end for a super awesome amazing announcement! And be sure to come back here on May 25th!
