Sin is a human problem. We rebelled against the eternal, holy and righteous God and now we have to pay. Our life is required. Where once we had the promise of eternal live, through sin, we now will suffer death.
No man could solve this problem. No man could live that perfect life that is required. So God steps in, makes a covenant with the second person in the Godhead, His eternal Son, and becomes a man, lives that perfect life that is pleasing to God, so that He can be our hero die in our place.
Today, we dive into verse 3 of How Great Thou Art.

We stand trial before a mighty Lord, who is the final Judge. We are covered in sin and guilt, its all over us, the evidence is undeniable. Yet, when it is time for the verdict to be read, "INNOCENT" is what is declared, made righteous by the work of Christ, who now stands in our place before the Righteous Judge.
And we walk out of that courtroom free men and women. There is now no more condemnation. Jesus and all in Him is OURS!
Join us on your lunch break today as we spend time on the 4th and final verse of "And Can It Be'.

The 9 lessons and Carols date back to 1880, where a bishop opened a special Christmas Eve service in a wood shed that he used has his cathedral in Truro, now present day Cornwall,
Almost 40 years later, in 1918, King's College in Cambridge carried on the tradition, and has held the special Christmas Eve since. The services always began with “Once in David’s Royal City”, the Carol we will be singing today, followed by 9 carols along with scripture readings to help tell the story of God’s redemptive history, leading to the baby in the manger.
In 1928, BBC began to broadcast the service over the radio, and, in 2022, YOU have the unique opportunity to hear this special service via our podcast!
We hope you find this edifying this Advent season! Enjoy your eggnog....

Today we look at my favorite Psalm, Psalm 127.
“Note that the Psalmist does not bid the builder cease from laboring, nor suggest that watchmen should neglect their duty, nor that men should show their trust in God by doing nothing: nay, he supposes that they will do all that they can do, and then he forbids their fixing their trust in what they have done, and assures them that all creature effort will be in vain unless the Creator puts forth his power.” - Charles Spurgeon

From the ESV Study notes: This Psalm (125) instills confidence in the Lords people, that remaining loyal to Him really is worth it. The leading image is of Zion as a city surrounded by sheltering mountains. It is possible that some of Zions citizens might go over to evil, but the Lord will see to it that he publicly vindicates His faithful ones.
Today we sing this to the tune of "Be Thou My Vision'.

Charles Spurgeon says of this psalm that "this is a good lesson for us to learn from the past experience of the Lord's people. God and God alone did deliver his servants in the past and herein is our confidence for the present and the future; our help is in the name the revealed and manifested character of Jehovah, the Creator of heaven and earth"
Today we get to sing Psalm 124 as written by Wendell Kimbrough.
Wendell is a songwriter and performer reimagining the Psalms for emotionally honest modern worship. His music makes space for the whole range of human experience, from lament, grief, and anger to playful, joyful celebration. With singable melodies, steeped in the sounds of folk, gospel, and soul music, Wendell's songs are sung at hundreds of churches around the world. His music has been featured in Worship Leader Magazine and World Magazine; and Under the Radar Media selected his 2016 album, Psalms We Sing Together, as an honorable mention for albums of the year. In 2020, he was invited to serve on American Songwriter Magazine's prestigious panel of lyric judges. Wendell lives with his wife and daughter in Fairhope, Alabama, where he serves as worship leader and artist-in-residence at Church of the Apostles.

Psalm 123 is a Psalm of Lament. It would seem that our community of pilgrims found themselves to be the subject of much contempt and scorn.
How do we handle contempt and scorn? Let us journey with these pilgrims as they teach us a thing or two about Gods mercy.

Today we sing this Psalm to a tune that MIGHT be familiar to you! Tune in to find out!

Our Help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and Earth. The psalmist points out that He is the maker of Heaven and earth to show His universal and unmatched power.
He made all things, and so for our help to come from Him means that no weapons, earthy or demonic, will stand against us!
As Spurgeon said “It is vain to trust the creatures - it is wise to trust the Creator”

Two years ago (March 23rd, 2020) when everyone was sent home to work due to increased Covid cases, we started a podcast!
Join us today as we meet Nathan, the voice behind the guitar. We will talk about where we have been and where we are going as a podcast.
Looking to partner with us? Here is how you can help us:
1. Share this podcast! The fastest way to grow this ministry is by word of mouth. We are on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play and anywhere else that podcasts can be heard. Tell your friends and family about it. Share it in a Facebook post where folks are talking about hymns. The more noise we make, the faster it will grow! (Don't forget, you can subscribe and share the podcast from our Facebook page as well!)
https://www.facebook.com/TheLunchBreakHymnSing
2. Leave a 5 Star Review and a comment! If you love the podcast, be sure to leave a 5 Star review. Apple Podcasts has this feature AND NOW Spotify does as well. This helps with algorithms which in turn pushes the podcast closer to the top in its category. And, hey, leave a comment! We love to read how the podcast has touched your lives, AND IF YOU LEAVE YOUR INSTAGRAM HANDLE we'll give you a shout out on the podcast!
https://www.instagram.com/thelunchbreakhymnsing/
3. PRAY! This is the most important need. Pray that the Lord will continue to use the podcast to bring His children to Himself. Pray for me as I continue to study His Word to bring solid, Christ-centered content to the listeners. Pray for Nathan and Karlie as they continue to play an intricate role in the ministry. And Pray for our families.
4. Buy me a coffee! https://www.buymeacoffee.com/LnchBrkHymnSing This is a platform that allows YOU to support us financially with absolutely no account set up. If you have found one or two of these episodes useful, you can choose to buy us a coffee or two as a way of saying "Thank you". If you want to provide support for this podcast monthly or annually, then consider joining the Choir where you will enjoy certain benefits as a member! Any support you provide will go a long way as we work to continue to provide you with good solid content!

Today we close out our study on the Doctrine of Salvation and we will do so by singing a song we wrote where each verse takes us through the ordo salutis and how ultimately it is in God’s love that we rejoice in our salvation.
Just how He applies redemption to His elect in Christ is in and of itself something that has been thought out in the mind of God from before the foundations of the world were laid.
Come join us for this final episode in our series!

Do you mortify? Do you make it your daily work? Be always at it whilst you live; cease not a day from this work; be killing sin or it will be killing you.-John Owen “The Mortification of Sin”
What we must remember in our sanctification process is that sin is still sin and we are in conflict with it, however, as new creations it is no longer master and we must “Be killing sin” each and every day.

The application of redemption begins with Gods effectual call to the sinner who is dead in sins. Though the gospel is made available for all to hear in the Gospel call, it is only those who are called effectually who will have their ears opened so that they may receive that message.

The Jewish people of the first century were under harsh oppression by the Roman Government. There was a hope built up inside them of the coming of a king, that great deliverer, who would rescue them from persecution, wipe out their enemies, and restore the Jewish culture that was lost to Hellenism.
Surely they must have asked the question, "What Child is This?" when the Deliverer finally came.
