Episode 66: A Tragic School Shooting, and âRed Flagâ Laws
Jan 11, 2023
âRed Flagâ gun laws?
A six-year-old little boy brought a loaded gun to school and shot a teacher just this last Friday. Iâm sure you heard or read about this on the news. Like probably all of you, I am in shock at how this could happen. That teacher, Abby Zwerner, age 25, is still in the hospital in serious, but stable, condition. I think we all hope for Abbyâs swift and complete recovery.
How the hell could this happen? What drives a six-year-old child to take a loaded gun to school and shoot a teacher with it? I know, people are crying out for the blood of the parents, and I get it. Weâre going to talk about that. We didnât have this kind of thing happening when I was in school, and Iâm not that old. It wasnât that long ago. What is happening today where that kind of thingâA SIX YEAR OLDâcould do this??
Granny Goodness knows best!
There are also calls for increased âRed Flagâ laws in the wake of this horrible event. Iâve been looking up Red Flag lawsâŠand while we need to solve the problems that lead to shootings, this is not a good âsolutionâ. Weâre going to discuss why, specifically. Yeah, weâre going to go into some detail.
Episode 65: Two cartridges for hunting season, and the Mosin reburbishment project
Dec 22, 2022
.30-06 and .308 Win cartridges
The advantages of reloading your own cartridges are numerous. Two of the ones that I happen to enjoy are the .308 Winchester and the .30-06 Springfield. Now, any discussion of these two cartridges usually ends up in a holy war of Ford/Chevy/Dodge proportions. Thatâs not what Iâm after here. We will discuss the capabilities of these two cartridges, since theyâre so wildly popular. I happen to favor the .30-06 by a bit, but I also reload, shoot, and enjoy the .308 Win as well. The first segment will be .30-06. The second segment will be about the .308 Win.
Finnish Mosin M39
Then, we get to the ongoing Mosin-Nagant project. This is a Chinese-made barreled receiver (stripped) with essentially a sewer-pipe-like barrel (meaning: there was virtually no rifling left). I took this Mosin and am in the process of saving it, turning into something that I hope will be great. When you run across an old milsurp rifle that hasnât been treated very well, itâs OK to do a total refurbishment and modernization. Itâs not âbubbaâingâ a rifle at all in such a situation. In this case, Iâm going for sort of a âFinnish M39 with a strong American accentâ sort of rebuild. And yes, the rifle is getting *totally* rebuilt. New barrel, new bluing, scope mount, and more.
Episode 64: Recovery from Censorship, New Shooters, and New Reloading Manuals, Oh My!
Dec 04, 2022
Censorship Hurts Liberty
CensorshipâŠwe saw it during the horrible McCarthy era back in the 1950âs and the âHouse Un-American Activities Committeeâ (HUAC). I had hoped weâd never see it again. But it appears we have been seeing it for the last couple of years. And at last, it even happened to me.
The Liberalâs Gun Corner got bumped off the Internet, apparently because my provider didnât like that it was getting popular, at least not with another Liberal promoting the 2A. Weâre going to talk about that, because we need to be reminded that this is not Stalinâs Soviet Union, Kim Il Sungâs (or his grandson, Kim Jong Unâs) North Korea, or any other dictatorial regime. This is the United States of America, where ideas are supposed to be freely expressed, even you donât agree with them! We are having a major problem with that right now, folksâŠand THATâS BAD. VERY, VERY BAD. Yeah, weâre gonna talk about this!
We also discuss how to help new shooters so that they might want to continue exploring the sport of marksmanship. Itâs important not to inadvertently end up scaring people away from it, even though weâre well-intentioned. Weâll discuss that as well.
America Means Civil Liberties, Patriotism Means Defending Them
And finally, there are new editions of two popular reloading manuals out there, namely Lymanâs Reloading Manual, 51st Edition, and Modern Reloading, Second Edition, 2021 Update. There are some changes in these books that you should be aware of if youâre thinking about reloading, or if youâre an experienced reloader.
But Iâll tell you thisâŠno matter how hard they try, no matter how long it might take me to get this podcast back onlineâŠIâm not letting the forces of censorship win; that is definitely not who I am. This is America.
Episode 63: Independence Day, Texas Goes Constitutional Carry, and the Benefits of All-Steel Handguns
Jul 05, 2021
The celebration of a free nation
Happy Birthday, United States of America. Today is our 245th birthday as a nation. We declared our independence from Great Britain on this day in the year 1776. I will always love you because you are my nation and also the greatest nation thatâs ever existed.
Texas has recently gone Constitutional Carry. Thatâs a good thingâŠunless youâre a Democrat who I call âMissy Annâ JohnsonâŠbecause of something she said about us. She calls Constitutional Carry âWild West Pimp Styleâ. Well, as offensive a set of racial dog-whistles as that isâŠI have decided, as have many other gun owners, to instead revel in it. Constitutional Carry is now hereby referred to as, âWild West Pimp Style!â Thank you, âMissy Annâ Johnson, for this wonderful Internet meme.
WILD WEST PIMP STYLE!! Can ya dig it?
And finallyâŠwe go into the benefits of the all-steel handguns. We talked about the more recent âplasticâ guns, the Glock-type guns, and theyâre very good. So are the traditional wood-and-steel models. Whichever you end up choosing, make sure that it feels comfortable for you. Not your âexpert gun buddyâ, not the gun magazinesâŠbut *YOU*. Thatâs what we did, and we benefited from that choice.
May the USA continue to prosper and thrive for another 245 years, and beyondâŠ.
Episode 62: The advantages of polymer-framed guns, and how the NRA can come back from its troubles
May 19, 2021
The canonical âTupperware pistolââŠmillions and millions served!
âPolymer gunsâ vs. âall steel gunsââŠFord/Chevy/DodgeâŠJesus, Mohammed, or BuddhaâŠjust a few of the various âholy warsâ in our world. Well, I cannot speak much to the others, but âpolymerâ vs. âall-steelâ, that one I can help out with! Turns out both are good stuff, so weâre going to talk about the goodness of Glock-style polymer pistols. Next episode, weâll do the same for the more old-school, all-steel models, âcause theyâre good too.
Yep, weâre going to talk about these folks. Just keep an open mind, thatâs all I ask.
And in case you havenât noticed, the NRA is under some serious pressure at the moment. Itâs legal pressure from the anti-Second Amendment activists in New York Stateâs governmentâŠand this time, they might actually have a case. The NRA is in serious danger now of being dissolved by the Attorney General of New York State. We will discuss what the NRA needs to do to save itself, and why it should be saved. If they do it right, they can come back stronger than they ever were.
Episode 61: Who Ya Gonna Call? Ghost-Gunners! A discussion on So-Called âGhost-Gunsâ
May 04, 2021
Who ya gonna call?
The antis have a new target besides âA-Salt Weppenzâ. We always knew they would, and now we know what it is.
Itâs the home-built gun, the do-it-yourself gun. The antis want to prevent us from being able to do what many people throughout the history of this country have done: build our own firearms. Yes, this is a time-honored activity in our country, and lots of people do so. People do this with various types of firearms.
But the antis want to demonize that now, by calling our home-builds by a new negative-marketing term. That term is, âghost gunsâ. California officials have even home builds effectively illegal, and the antis now want to make that nationwide. Given the anti-2A majorities currently in the Congress, and the anti-2A current Presidential Administration, this could actually happen. Weâve got to make it clear that weâll be watching in 2022.
What we do this time is deconstruct, dissect, and debunk their pseudo-arguments against home-built guns. We did it with Eric âFast âNâ Furiousâ Holder. We did it with Hollywoodâs âsuggestionsâ for how to portray firearms. And now we do it with the one who first coined the term âghost gunââŠCalifornia State Senator Kevin de Leon. The antis at the Federal level are using his pseudo-arguments to try to push a Federal-level ban.
As always, we present a distinct case for our position and argue with factsâŠand we mean actual facts here at the Liberalâs Gun Corner.
This is a right, not a privilege.
The LiberalâŠor the Libertarian?
Apr 18, 2021
Nothing says âlibertyâ like Lady Liberty herself!
âCowboy T, you sound a lot like a Libertarian!â
Yep, itâs come up again. It always comes up. Even Mark Levin said it recently, a few weeks ago. Perhaps itâs time to have that discussion, since itâs been a bit over eight years since we touched on it. My Conservative brothers and sisters really donât seem to like the âLâ wordâŠespecially when itâs coming out of a pro-Second-Amendment activist such as myself.
The short version: I am in fact a Liberal, not a Libertarian. And here, I will explain why, specifically, that is the case. Weâre going to discuss the difference.
With that said, we Liberals most certainly should be collaborating with our Libertarian brothers and sisters far, far more than we do. Turns out weâre natural allies in quite a few areas. We donât do that right now; matter of fact, we tend to effectively tell âem, âtalk to the handâ and brush them off. We shouldnât do that. And I will explain why that is the case, as well.
Episode 59: Gun Bans: My Fellow Liberals, Our âBabyâ Has Some Serious Ugliness that We Need to AddressâŠ.
Apr 01, 2021
The end goalâŠ.
I wish todayâs post were just an âApril Foolsâ joke. Sadly, it isnât. Far from it.
If thereâs anything that nobody wants to hear, itâs that their baby has some ugliness.
As Liberals, we believe in the Constitution. We believe in liberty. Thatâs why the whole LGBTQ+ rights movement resonates so strongly with so many of us. Itâs why we chafeâat least, publiclyâwhen we hear of racism. And itâs why we recoil so strongly when someone whoâs not part of âusâ, especially a Conservative Republican, aims a criticism at us.
Itâs just as important for us to recognize problems with our own âhouseâ, or our own âbabyâ, if you will. And we do have a problem with our âbabyâ that we need to address. Many of us Liberals did and do vote for the Democrats, for various reasons. Problem: now that theyâre in power at the Federal level, they are likewise going after not just the First Amendment, but also the Second Amendment. Theyâre apparently even willing to seriously consider getting rid of the Senate filibuster, from all accounts, in order to do it. Weâve got to address that.
How does this happen? Thatâs what weâre going to talk about this time. Weâre also going to discuss what to do about it.
âŠwhat happens when âonly the police and military have gunsâ. Is this really what we want?
Episode 58: A case for Liberals, Especially Racial Minorities, to Support Constitutional CarryâŠESPECIALLY NOW!!
Mar 21, 2021
And you really think we donât need guns? Letâs see you face this guy and his pals without one!
Tennessee may become the 19th State to enact âConstitutional Carryâ. That means you donât need a permit from the government to carry a gun. Thatâs how it used to be before the end of the Civil War and the Black Codes. Constitutional Carryâalso known as Vermont Carry since Vermontâs been doing it for 230 years nowâis celebrated by some, but itâs got some others concerned. Some of those folks are racial minoritiesâŠspecifically, Black Americans in Memphis.
I would like to present my case, as a Liberal, for why Constitutional Carry is actually a very good thing, especially for us racial minorities. Especially for Liberals. So, youâre going to get, well, the âMinority Reportâ here on Constitutional Carry!
We also go into perhaps why so many of us Liberals donât have much problem voting for those who promote gun control. I think I have a reasonably good understanding of why that happens, so we cover that topic, too.
Closely related to this subject, another Liberal named âQueer Armorerâ did a video on why gun control is bad news, especially for racial minorities. Iâve watched it, and itâs actually pretty accurate. Worth watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSpB1km71iw
CNN liked to say, âWe Go There!â during President Trumpâs Administration. Well, they ainât the only ones. So do weâŠrest assured.
Episode 57: Ammo shortages, gun shortages, new gun owners, and the importance of the First Amendment
Mar 06, 2021
Itâs been four years. This is the first new episode in all that time. Itâs good to be back. And weâve got a lot to discuss, because a lot has happened in that time.
There is no such thing as too much ammo!
There is a grave disturbance in the availability of guns and especially ammunition. Thatâs because, in light of what went on last year (2020), there are now a lot of new gun ownersâsome estimates say about 8 million. And I donât blame them. You always, ALWAYS have the right to defend yourself and your loved ones!
Weâre also going to tell you one way to help deal with the ammo shortage of 2020 and 2021. I have a preferred way of dealing with it, which Iâve been advocating for years. Weâll talk about that, too.
And finally, just as the Second Amendment is so importantâŠso is the First Amendment. We talked about this way back in Episode 3, about eight and a half years ago. Itâs a funny thing about rights. Very often, we seem to have no problem limiting themâŠso long as weâre not the ones affected at that moment. That makes it a privilege, not a right, and we can never let that happen here in the United States of America.
Episode 56: Lobby Day, âThe Russians Are Hacking!â, and getting cozy with Mr. Weatherby for cheap (re-upload)
Feb 23, 2021
This is Episode 56, first published four years ago in January 2017. Four years later, in February 2021, it seems frighteningly relevant today in several ways. This is the other episode I was able to recover from the catastrophic Web site failure.
The now-late Rep. John Lewisâs opposition to the RKBA, in light of what happened to pro-Civil Rights activists like him and MLK Jr, never ceases to baffle me, as the son of a Black man myself. As the Charlottesville, VA racists showed us yet again, we have the right to defend ourselves from attack, and that most definitely includes with guns. Even MLK Jr. agreed with this notion! Yes, you read that right. We discuss that in this episode.
Russia! Russia! Russia!
We also discussed the whole âRussia, Russia, Russia!â thing, from a cybersecurity engineerâs point of view. Since Mr. Trump is no longer President, some people might think this is moot. Well, no, itâs not, but not because of Mr. TrumpâŠbut rather because of biased media coverage. And thatâs true no matter who does it. Biased media coverage is not the Liberal way. Thatâs the way of Communists and Fascists, not us Liberals. To my amazement, not just Mrs. Clinton and her allies ran with this business, but Rep. John Lewisâone of my heroesâalso did. That was really disappointing to me, since Rep. Lewis himself, as a Civil Rights Activist, was himself a victim of media propaganda in the 1960âs.
Hello, Mr. Weatherby! Even Archie would like you.
We also discuss a really slick rifle, and one that Iâm surprised doesnât get more love in the used gun market. This is the Weatherby Mark V. Itâs basically the Mercedes-Benz S-Class of rifles. And like luxury German CarsâMercedes, BMW, and Audiâthis rifle doesnât hold its value in thye used market. But theyâre excellent rifles! Theyâre basically semi-custom. Weâre going to talk about it, its benefits, and how inexpensively one can get one of these fine rifles.
Episode 55: Armed self-defense, on a shoestring budget (re-upload)
Feb 23, 2021
This was originally written and published in December 2016, but itâs just as relevant now with what happened last year in 2020. I was able to recover this and Episode 56, the next one, just recently, from the catastrophic Web site failure.
People want to arm themselves, and I donât blame them one bit. But unlike our politicians, not everyone is made of money. Therefore, weâre going to talk about how to do just that, but on a shoestring budget.
Examples of guns to consider!
Today in early 2021, guns are of course harder to come by. Why? Because so many people are shopping for, and buying, guns! Now, thatâs a Very Good Thing in my view, but it does mean that prices are going to be a bit higher now. So, saving money is even more important now.
I also realize that ammo is tough to come by. Weâll be dealing with that in the very next brand-new episode. For now, basically get what you can, and get set up to handload.
In this episode, we give you some examples of why doing all this is important, including from my own life.
Episode 54: M1 Garand vs. Mosin Nagant; and *why* Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in 2016
Nov 11, 2016
Today is Veteranâs Day
Today is November 11th, Veteranâs Day in the USA.
By now, World+Dog knows about Donald Trumpâs âsurpriseâ win over Hillary Clinton in the US Presidential Election. âThe Donaldâ is now our President-Elect and will become the 45th President of the United States on January 20, 2017. All sorts of people, especially the âtalking headsâ, are wonderingâŠâhow did he do it??â
I think I know how.
Thatâs what weâre going to discuss here. Not whether or not I personally agree or disagree with his win, but rather why he *did* win. Itâs important to understand why he won. And no, itâs not just something we can dismiss by shouting, âRACISM!!â There are much deeper reasons beyond that. *MUCH* deeper. And we do ourselves a disservice by not understanding them.
All-American, Righteous M1 Garand!
After that, weâll go into a range trip where the Upstanding, Virtuous, All-American M1
Garand, the Hero of World War II, goes up against that Pinko-Commie Mosin-Nagant! And weâre going to tell you who wins. You mayâŠor may
Evil Pinko-Communist Vintovka Mosina!
notâŠbe surprised when you hear the results.
Admission here: in reality, I actually do like Mosins quite a lot and own several. But hey, gotta have some post-Cold-War fun, right?
Episode 53: Why, as a Liberal, I *cannot* vote for Hillary Clinton for President; and thoughts on the police shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge
Sep 29, 2016
The Oval Office
Thereâs a Presidential election coming up, folks.
As a Liberal, Iâve had to think long and hard about who I might vote for. As you might expect, Iâm not a particular fan of the Republican candidate, Donald Trump.
What you might not expect is this: under no circumstances can I in good conscience vote for the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.
What?? A Liberal not voting for the Democrat? Whatâs up here?
Turns out I have some very good reasons for this view, and Iâm going to share them with you. You may or may not agree with them. But they are my reasons, and I consider them 100% valid, given my own life experience.
Some of you might say, âCowboy T, you just donât want to vote for a WOMMMAANNN!!â Well, if you think that, then youâre as poor a judge of character as you clearly are in logical discussion. I have no problem voting for a female candidateâŠjust not that particular one. And Iâm hardly alone.
Weâll also discuss the reasons for those terrible shootings of police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge a couple of months ago. When discussing something terrible like that, I donât need to âbe firstâ to cover it. Iâd rather think carefully about it, and weâre going to talk about what we can do to address the root causes of the mindset that would commit such a horrible act.
Episode 52: Americaâs 240th birthday, why reloading is necessary, and the danger of Gun-Free Zones
Jul 04, 2016
Todayâs the Fourth of July, 2016. Thatâs right, the day we declared independence from Britain. It is our 240th birthday as a free nation.
On that note, I think itâs important to consider the freedoms and liberties that we have here in the United States of America. As both a patriot and a veteran, I have no choice but to think about this stuff a lot.
One of those rights is the right to keep and bear arms. And that includes having ammunition to feed those arms. One way to ensure you have ammo is to handload, or reload, your own. A gun is useless without ammunition with which to feed it.
Weâre going to give you a real-world example of why the right to keep and bear arms is so important. And it happened to a member of âthe eliteâ, or rather, an elite-in-training. Yep. Having a privileged life is no protection against attack, folks. You still need to be able to defend yourself. Just ask Katie Couric. She knows.
Included among our rights is the right to defend ourselves from just that sort of thing. Thatâs America, and weâre supposed to be able to do that ANYWHERE, HERE in this countryâŠwell, ideally, anywhere in the world or beyond.
Happy 240th Birthday, America. Youâre a labour of love, always a work in progress. And itâs our job to make sure that work to preserve our liberties never, ever stops. And if we ever do stopâŠthat is when we will have failed you.
I WILL NOT FAIL YOU.
Episode 51: A case for GAYS to be armed! (this episode rated PG-13)
Jun 27, 2016
I am a Pink Pistol.
Yep, weâve done the case for Blacks to be armed, and the case for Muslims to be armed.
In light of two recent events, now we make the case for gays to be armed.
By now everyoneâs heard of that horrific act of terrorism in Orlando, FL by a madman who swore allegiance to the terror group ISIL. If there is a Hell, then may he rot there forevermore.
We address actress (and as it happens, also gay) Kelly McGillisâs recent decision to get her conceal and carry permit. And given what sheâs had to endure in her lifetime, Iâm surprised it hasnât happened sooner. Iâm sure glad itâs happened now, though.
As we Pink Pistols say, âpick on someone your own caliber.â
Finally, we bring you a liâl surprise, a nice ânâ juicy nugget from Katie Couricâs âUnder The Gunâ interview with the VCDL. Katie apparently thinks itâs somehowâoh, I dunnoââmore OKâ, I supposeâto face an attacker with a knife vs. a gun. Apparently sheâs never heard the old policemanâs adage:
âIf youâre facing a gun, you might get shot. If youâre facing a knife, you WILL get cut.â
I think Kelly McGillis would disagree with her, too. I think weâre also starting to perhaps see why Katie got fired from CBS back in 2011. Shoddy journalism can have that effect.
NOTE: This episode is âRated PG-13â for a small amount of âstrongâ language during the discussion of Ms. McGillisâs ordeal.
Episode 50: Katie Couricâs lies, the M1D Garand Sniper Edition, and visiting an anti-gun country
May 27, 2016
Just before the panel discussion, at Mason Government Center in Annandale, VA, June 2015
Some of you may have learned by now about Katie Couricâs, shall we say, âcreative editingâ to make the VCDL look bad for her âUnder The Gunâ so-called âdocumentaryâ. She invited us for a panel discussion about why weâre pro-2A. She then deceptively edited some footage to make it look like we were âstumpedâ by one of her âgotchaâ questions. But it didnât actually happen that way.
I know, because I WAS THERE. You will get a first-hand account of it, from me.
Turns out she pulled a hack-job worthy of a Soviet-era ânewsâ channel. I really thought sheâd be more ethical than this.
Folks, I know we donât always agree with each other as people. But fraudulent editing and lying should be off-limits, and Katie stepped over that line here. Iâm going to show you, and it should make every one of you mad when you canât trust the press to at least be honest. Disagree, fine, but at least be honest! She crossed that line.
Thanks to SniperCentral for this image
We also continue our discussion of M1 Garands, this time, specifically the M1D Sniper Rifle. Shooting it takes you back a few years, and it got me to thinking about a few things.
Iâm writing this two days, almost to the hour, after getting back from a trip to Thailand. Iâll give you some thoughts on visiting there, from a 2A perspective. And yes, jet lag is somethinâ else!
Episode 49: A very recent example of why the 2A existsâŠand finally getting to shoot Dadâs guns!
May 03, 2016
Yes, our Black lives *DO* matter! And we *will* defend ourselves.
Today is Monday, May 2nd, 2016. What you see in the picture, though, looks straight out of the 1960âs, doesnât it? We promised weâd talk about this, and now, right here in Episode 49, we will do so.
A month ago today, there was a beautiful example of why the Second Amendment exists and why itâs still needed. Seems some bigots calling themselves the Bureau of Islamic American Relations (BAIR) decided to do an armed protest in front of a mosque, located in a mostly-Black neighborhood. Yep, these protestors were White. And yes, they did have the right to do their protest, as Texas is an open-carry state.
What the residents of this neighborhood did in response was just beautiful. I laughed my can off when I found out about this. Hereâs a hint: not a single shot was fired.
The instrument of my Dadâs self-defense
Also, this evening, I finally got a chance to take Dadâs guns to the range. These are the very same guns that protected him for decades; one of âemâs probably close to my age. Iâll tell you about them and how they were to shoot, from a shooterâs perspective. Oneâs a Taurus, the otherâs a Smith & Wesson. Both are revolvers.
And finally, Iâd like to recommend a Facebook page by a fellow Liberal named Anne Weber. She added some important information regarding that whole Journal-News fiasco with the gun-owner-permit holders in New York City. Folks, *this* is why the government shouldnât know who and where privately-owned firearms are. Anne, thank you for calling this to our attention; I hadnât been aware of this until you posted it.
Episode 48: Shooting M1 Garands, and why Iâm now âfeeling the Bernâ
Apr 18, 2016
Two things of note here. First, New York Stateâs Democratic Primary election is tomorrow. There are two candidates for President, Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Secây of State Hillary Clinton. Until pretty recently, I hadnât taken a favourable position on either of the Democrats. But this last debate in New York, on Friday, April 15th, 2016, finally got me to, as they say on Twitter, â#FeelTheBernâ.
I will explain to you how and why, as a Liberal, I came to this conclusion, and why you might consider doing likewise.
On the M1 Garand front, you know already that I went to the CMPâs Alabama facilities and
If only they were still this price!
built my own rifle. You will now hear what itâs like to actually shoot one of these. I brought two women with me to enjoy the rifleâs inaugurationâŠalong with its brother rifle I picked up while at the CMP Store. Hey, gotta do your part for the economy, right? You will hear about their experiences, tooâŠand you may be surprised at how easy a .30-06 rifle can be to shoot.
