    The Leonie Dawson Show

Internationally best-selling author and creator of an 8 figure creative company Leonie Dawson (that’s me!) brings her ridiculous sense of humour and wild oversharing to the podcast world! The Leonie Dawson is a delicious buffet of self help, business, creativity, marketing, family and life… and I might just introduce you to some of my favourite people if I’m called. Mostly, I’m just here to create and share… and hope that it touches your heart in just the way it needs.

035: Why You Need To Set Goals Aug 19, 2020
    Show notes

I have been talking about goals and the importance of goal setting for approximately a billion fucking years…

    Let’s talk about:

    • the fact that 80% of peeps don’t set goals (WTF?!)
    • 16% think of their goals but don’t write them down
    • 3% of people think of goals AND write them down
    • only 1 fucking percent of people think of their goals, write them down and revisit them more than once

Guess which group were the higher achievers? Hot tip: the 1%

Don’t forget you can use tools to help create and set goals!

If you haven’t already, make sure you check out the Goals Planners!

I made them to serve myself as I transitioned into motherhood.

I knew I needed to set some goals to get through that year, but there was nothing on the market back then.

I love rainbows, and colour and glorious joy… So I CREATED it.

Now they’ve been used over 400’000 people WORLD. WIDE.

    Fucking mind boggling.

So if you’re a Goal Getter already, I wanna hear about the biggest blessings and miracles because of the workbooks!

It’s never too late to get started on the workbooks, or your goals!

029: Calm and Connected Parenting Tips Jul 22, 2020
    Show notes

Today I’m talking all about connected parenting.

My daughter struggled going to school this morning and I wanted to share how I supported her and her poor little nervous system.

Here are some of the strategies I implemented:

    1. Long strong cuddles (at least 20 seconds)
    2. Deep breathing
    3. Asking gentle questions
    4. Validating her emotions and feelings: “Stop, Drop, Empathy”
    5. Helping her with tasks she was struggling with (getting dressed)
    6. I sat next to her in the back of the car on the way to school and held her hand
    7. I told her all the reasons I love her (she was STOKED by this, it totally engaged her)

    I also:

    • Try to keep my cup full (our kids bounce off our own emotions and behaviours)
    • Respond with empathy and gentleness
    • Recognise that parenting is fucking hard and that we are all doing our best by our kids

    In this episode I mention:

    • Hiro Boga
    • Dr. Carrie Contey
    • Steve Biddulph
    • Patty Wipfler
    • Magda Pecsenye

    4. Stop the “endless scroll” on social media apps
    5. Layer your space with books in a variety of different mediums
    6. Pass read books on to friends, family, clients and charities
    7. A lock screen reminder: stop scrolling, read books
    8. The more I read, the faster I get
    9. Skim read books if they’re hard to read
    10. If a book is shit, stop reading
    11. I read in front of the television
    12. Take up book baths (read the book, in the bath, until the book is finished. PHENOMENAL)
    13. Read a variety of genres, and read more than one book at a time
    14. Put your kids to bed earlier
