Has Superhero Fatigue Doomed The Flash Movie? Jun 26, 2023

Show notes

It's the movie that's said to be the "greatest movie of all time"...the movie that "changes lives". It was the movie the world has waited years for. So, the Legendary Ladies wanted to know - was The Flash Movie really all that? Amy, Kat, and Morgan all saw the movie on opening weekend, then sat down to discuss their thoughts. They mulled over how nostalgia could change the interpretation of the film, how Grant Gustin's portrayal of The Flash on TV could affect the perception of Ezra Miller's Flash, and whether the oversaturation of superhero movies has caused so much fatigue that, even if a movie would otherwise be great, the bar is so high that it's impossible to meet.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: Should Movies Be Allowed To Have Cliffhangers? Jun 12, 2023

Show notes

It's a Legendary Duo! Kat and Morgan discuss Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, a movie we both absolutely loved. We ask the question: does a movie need to have a full ending to be a movie? What does it mean to have a cliffhanger ending and how does that impact storytelling? Is it harder to find movies that aren't directly based off of IP in the theaters? We also dive into some specifics of Across the Spider-Verse, including the comics-accurate art styles and the character arcs for Miles and Gwen.

Do "Will They, Won't They" Romances Sell TV Shows? May 22, 2023

Show notes

NOW, KISS. It's the hallmark of shows like Law and Order, Castle, Bones, and more - the "will they, won't they" romances. But the question is - are fans *actually* enjoying that romantic tension? With just Amy and Kat on this week's episode, the hosts are split. In addition to debating why the "will they, won't they" does or does not work for each host, the Legendary Ladies try to dive into the logistics of the trope: does this sort of romance sell more television? Does streaming lack the same tension without a promo for next week's episode teasing a major character breakthrough? And does tiktok and social media drive tension beyond characters beyond what the networks had planned? Join us - and share your own thoughts!

Breaking Down The Potential TV Writer's Strike with Ray Utarnachitt (Legends of Tomorrow) + Christina Walker (Flash) Apr 24, 2023

Show notes

As May 1st draws closer, so too does the deadline for the WGA's (Writer's Guild of America) contract renewal - as well as the strike that will come if an agreement is not reached. In solidarity with the writers of some of their favorite television, the Legendary Ladies invited writers Ray Utarnachitt (DC'S THE LEGENDS OF TOMORROW) and Christina Walker (CW'S THE FLASH) for a round table discussion about the ins-and-outs of the challenge facing the Guild. The conversation moves from the basics, such as how the WGA works and what a strike authorization *actually* means, to the more complex issues, such as the changing landscape of residuals in a world where streaming is the new 'name of the game' and how the industry shift to "micro" writing rooms creates an imbalance between the work required - and the pay received for it. Join in the fight with The Legendary Ladies and support and honor the WGA by listening, learning, and sharing the episode!

Meet the guests!

Ray Utarnachitt is a TV writer/producer. He is a Michigan native and like any good Asian student, was pre-med at the University of Michigan for 3 years. Much to his parents' dismay, he switched tracks and graduated with a Film degree. Ray broke into the business working in production on commercials, music videos, and features. He was a writer and Executive Producer on DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW. He's also written for PERSON OF INTEREST, THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, THE FLASH, and SUPERGIRL. He is an alumnus of the Warner Bros. Writers Workshop.

From period pieces to Sci-fi, supernatural genre to high-concept and action packed, Christina Walker''s unique background and diverse voice has led her to staff on a wide range series and all of those rooms highlight her as true value added. Most recently her talents have put her in the high-concept and action space having worked on Seasons 7 & 8 of CW'S THE FLASH.
