Sandra Bullock | Czar Loser Mar 15, 2022
    Show notes

Evidence is mounting that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is not going as smoothly as he’d planned, with Russian troops undersupplied and looting groceries for food. In Ukraine, the postal service is honoring the brave soldiers of Snake Island with a stamp commemorating their infamous retort to a Russian warship. Meanwhile, there’s a cursed painting available for only $50 on eBay, and a man in Florida did one of the most Florida things imaginable: called the police because his meth wasn’t working. Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock returns to The Late Show with stories from the set of her new film, “The Lost City,” in which she spends a significant amount of time acting in front of a naked Channing Tatum.

Aidy Bryant, Comedian Alex Edelman | It's Been Two Long Mar 12, 2022
    Show notes

Two years ago tonight, Stephen Colbert performed his monologue for a nearly-empty Ed Sullivan Theater as New York City began to enter the first phase of the pandemic lockdown. Join Stephen for a not-so-fond look back at the past two years and some of the ways we’ve grown (primarily at the waistband). Next, with so much money flowing into the NFT market, it’s no surprise that it has attracted a new generation of art thieves. And with NFT theft on the rise, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood turned it into a blockbuster heist movie. And Stephen can’t hide his shock when the delightful Aidy Bryant tells him she used to work four-month stints on a cruise ship teaching improv classes to young people. Stick around for more from Aidy Bryant, and check out her new show, “Human Resources,” streaming now on Netflix. Then, Stephen answers audience questions, and nothing is too personal, and no answer too dumb, especially if it involves aliens. And finally, comedian, writer and actor Alex Edelman makes his Late Show stand-up comedy debut and gets the whole theater laughing with true stories about his family.

Amb. Marie Yovanovitch (Former Ambassador to Ukraine), Martha Stewart Takes The Colbert Questionert Mar 11, 2022
    Show notes

Putin’s army is failing, in part because Russia’s oligarchs embezzled huge sums of money instead of upgrading gear and stocking fresh food rations. Over in Ukraine, members of the country’s prestigious ballet companies have put their careers on pause to return home and join the fight against Russia’s invaders. Meanwhile, Grimes and Elon Musk have done it again, and if you visit a museum in Denmark you can sit on a toilet shaped like Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich! Next, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, joins Stephen for a two-part interview focused on the latest developments in Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Her book, “Lessons From The Edge,” is available everywhere next Tuesday. And Martha Stewart takes The Colbert Questionert, so we can all finally have an answer to the question: what is Martha's favorite sandwich?

Amb. Michael McFaul (Former Ambassador to Russia), Denée Benton Mar 10, 2022
    Show notes

Vladimir Putin’s propaganda machine is trying to turn the letter ‘Z’ into a symbol of domestic support for his war in Ukraine, but his government can’t hide the fact that the world’s economic war against Russia is succeeding, as evidenced by major brands like McDonalds and Coca-Cola pulling out of the country at lightning speed. President Obama’s ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, visits The Late Show to talk to Stephen about the latest developments in Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and offers his analysis of what it would mean for NATO to establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine. And Denée Benton was born to be on stage, but she spent much of her younger life working to overcome preconceived notions about what a Black girl can achieve in the performing arts. Catch Denée in her latest role, starring as Peggy Scott in, “The Gilded Age,” Mondays on HBO.

John C. Reilly, Kristin Chenoweth | Commander In Kyiv Mar 09, 2022
    Show notes

Volodymyr Zelensky courageously revealed his location in a speech intended to rally the world to Ukraine’s aid, while the women in Ukraine are demonstrating their bravery by taking up arms, and, in one case, taking out a Russian drone with a jar of pickled tomatoes. Meanwhile, anyone with information about a missing box of human heads is encouraged to call the Denver Police Department right away. Next, John. C. Reilly grew out his hair during lockdown and used the extra length to pull off a truly epic combover hairstyle for his portrayal of Lakers boss Jerry Buss in the new HBO series, “Winning Time.” And Kristin Chenoweth returns to the show to wow Stephen and Jon with her impressive vocal chops. Kristin’s new book, “What Will I Do With My Love Today?” is available everywhere now.

Anderson Cooper (Live from Ukraine), Sutton Foster Mar 08, 2022
    Show notes

Vladimir Putin doesn’t want Russian citizens to know the truth about what he’s doing in Ukraine, and Americans are finding creative ways to get donations into the hands of Ukrainian civilians and small business owners. The anchor of CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” and a correspondent for “60 Minutes,” Anderson Cooper, joins Stephen live from Lviv, Ukraine where he is covering Russia’s invasion and is amazed by the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Next, two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster returns to The Late Show to share stories about working with her “The Music Man” co-star Hugh Jackman, and to give Stephen something special she made by hand in her dressing room. Catch Sutton in “The Music Man” at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway and check out her new book, “Hooked: How Crafting Saved My Life,” available everywhere now.

Paul McCartney | Colbert Classic Mar 05, 2022
    Show notes

We're throwing it back to when Sir Paul McCartney took over The Late Show in 2019 with this epic four-part interview to promote his children's book, "Hey Grandude." Listen as Stephen divulges his personal connection to McCartney's music in a conversation about legacy, grief, and a little old band called The Beatles.

Kyle MacLachlan, Arian Moayed | Crime's Up Mar 04, 2022
    Show notes

The January 6th committee says they have evidence that former president Donald T**** knew he was committing fraud against the government, and despite evidence to the contrary, Russia’s leader insists that his invasion of Ukraine is proceeding exactly as he planned. Meanwhile, Stephen has seen Cristinao Ronaldo's shower video, and he has some thoughts on the comments. Friend of the show Kyle MacLachlan deploys some purrrfect puns aimed at fans of Carole Baskin, the subject of his new series, “Joe vs. Carole,” streaming now on Peacock. Next, Arian Moayed plays the attorney for Anna Delvey in Netflix’s “Inventing Anna,” and he says his children have watched the show several times and are always pulling for Anna to prevail in court.

Andy Serkis, Fiona Hill, Special Appearance by Sara Bareilles & Josh Groban Mar 03, 2022
    Show notes

Amid reports of ill-equipped troops quitting the fight, the Russian military continues to target civilians in Ukraine while the U.S. and other countries move to seize superyachts belonging to Putin’s oligarch cronies. Next, Sara Bareilles & Josh Groban help celebrate a milestone in frozen dairy history, as Stephen Colbert’s signature flavor of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream "Americone Dream" celebrates 15 delicious years of fudge-covered waffle cone and caramel swirl goodness. Then, one of Stephen’s favorite actors, Andy Serkis, returns to The Late Show with a preview of his new film, “The Batman,” where he plays Alfred alongside Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. And Fiona Hill advised three American presidents on Russian policy and has spent time in close proximity to Vladimir Putin, so she is uniquely qualified to talk about the man’s strengths, his weak spots, and the things we misunderstand about him.

Sen. Bernie Sanders | Live After Biden's State of the Union Mar 02, 2022
    Show notes

Stephen Colbert delivers a live monologue following President Biden’s first State of the Union address, where the POTUS touted his covid response, underlined America’s steadfast support for the people of Ukraine, and unveiled his “Unity Agenda” of domestic policies. Meanwhile, smugglers are hiding balls of methamphetamine inside bags of onions, but there’s an easy way to spot the difference. And Senator Bernie Sanders returns to The Late Show to help Stephen Colbert break down the highlights of President Biden’s first State of the Union speech, starting with America’s support for Ukraine and the people of Russia who are protesting against their government.
