On February 12, 1993, an abduction and murder took place in Merseyside, England. The victim was 2 year old James Patrick Bulger. Once the details of the crime, and those who were charged with committing the act emerged and news spread across the country and the world, the murder would go down as one of the most notorious crimes in the country’s history. The shock of this story continues to reverberate with the community in which this took place to this day, as it is one that shook Britain to its core. On March 16th, 2009 Ryan Jenkins and Jasmine Fiore had a chance encounter at a pool party in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two days later, the couple would wed. That’s right, only two days after meeting. Not surprisingly, things went bad quickly, and within a matter of months, their marriage would be bombarded with betrayal, both financial and sexual. But they could not seem to be able to let go of one another, no matter how bad things got. Things would eventually reach a boiling point, and in the end, two lives, and two families would be destroyed.

The 1996 Formerly Unsolved Murder Of Debbie Dorian Perpetrated By Alleged Serial Rapist And Killer Nickey Stane

This weekend, we will be covering the 1996 murder of Debbie Dorian. She was bound, gagged, raped, and murdered in her apartment. Her father was the one who made the horrific discovery, and to this day, her killer has never been apprehended and her case has gone cold. He did however leave behind his genetic marker...his DNA. Though he would lay dormant for nearly 3 years, he did strike again, raping at least 7 more women in the Visalia, California area, linked to all those crimes through his DNA. But Debbie would be the only known victim to die at his hands. With DNA technology having advanced by leaps and bounds over the last 22 years, as well as some recent, very high profile cases that had long been cold being solved, it is our hope to shine some light on Debbie's case, to bring this killer and rapist to justice, and a measure of closure for Debbie's family and friends who have waited much too long for answers. With the blessings of Debbie's mother, Sara, and the help and guidance of her best friend, Katina, we are bringing you her story.
UPDATE:
Two retired Fresno Detectives, Robert Schiotis and Vincent Zavala retired in 2018, but the did not stop working on Debbie Dorian's case. And their efforts paid off. In October of 2019 Visalia, California Police arrested Nickey Stane on what was called a "John Doe" warrant dating back to 2009. The same technology used to identify the Golden State Killer was used to identify Stane - just as we had hoped when we did this episode!! Stane left his DNA at the crime scene back in 1996 when he raped and murdered Debbie and it finally caught up with him. Because Stane has been connected to a variety of other sexual assaults and another murder, he is possibly facing the death penalty. He has denied raping and killing Dorian, but the prosecutors and investigators are confident the DNA will speak for itself. Stane is currently awaiting trial, as he wants separate trials for the murders and the sexual assaults in an effort to avoid the death penalty.

The 2016 Ghost Ship Warehouse Fire In Oakland, California That Killed 36 People

On December 2, 2016, an artist collective in Oakland, California known as the Ghost Ship, erupted into flames while a musical event was taking place on the makeshift second floor of the eclectic warehouse. Thirty-six people lost their lives that night in what became one of the worst fire disasters in California history. Hear the story of what happened, how this happened, who is responsible, and a little bit about each person who went to the Ghost Ship that evening for a night of music and never made it out.
UPDATE:
There is an Update episode published in the KD feed dated September 10, 2019. In 2018, the warehouse's master tenant Derick Almena and his assistant Max Harris pleaded no contest to 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter via a plea bargain with the prosecutor. However, the judge discarded the pleas and ordered the defendants to trial. On 09/04/2019, a jury deadlocked on the charges against Almena, leading to a mistrial. Harris was acquitted on all charges. In 2021, Almena pleaded guilty 36 counts of manslaughter, given a 12 year sentence, but was released on time served. In July of 2020, the city of Oakland agreed to pay a total of $33 million to the victims and their families. In August of 2020, PG&E settled a civil lawsuit for an undisclosed amount, but for only 32 of the 36 victims.

Since this episode originally aired, Emily Doe has come forward and has published a book entitled Know My Name: A Memoir. Her name is Chanel Miller. On January 18th, 2015, a young woman known only by the name Emily Doe attended a frat party at the Stanford University Campus with her younger sister. She would wake up hours later on a hospital gurney with no recollection of how she ended up there or why. Hospital staff and detectives informed her that she had been sexually assaulted, but she was certain they must’ve had her confused with someone else. When Emily made her way to the restroom, and went to pull down the hospital issued sweatpants she was wearing, she discovered her underwear was missing. It was then she knew something terrible had indeed happened to her. This episode is going to be a departure from our usual episode styles. We’re not just going to tell the story, we’re going to tell it to Emily’s attacker directly.

When the news hit the media that these two girls were abducted, most feared the worst. There was a plot twist, though - they fought back, the brutalized their captor, the fought for their lives and they won.

An Update On The 2013 Death Of Valdosta Georgia High School Senior Kendrick Johnson With Guest Host Justin Rimmel From The Mysterious Circumstances Podcast

This is an update on the death of Kendrick Johnson of Valdosta, Georgia. On January 11, 2013, Kendrick was found inside a rolled up wrestling map that was standing up vertically inside the gym at his high school. His death was ruled accidental, but when his family had a second autopsy conducted, it was determined he died from blunt force trauma. After the US Attorney in Georgia had a formal review, they determined in 2016 there would be no criminal charges filed. Kendrick's family has been fighting for justice ever since and have even called for a third autopsy, but they've also been accused of mishandling their own son's case by allegedly making up evidence to try and support the claim that Kendrick's death was a homicide. This is an update on where the case stands now.

Jesse James Hollywood was a mid-level drug dealer in the late 90s in the San Fernando Valley area of California. Many of the guys he recruited to deal drugs for him, often found themselves in debt because they tended to smoke more than they sold. One in particular owed Jesse James some money, but really didn’t concern himself with paying him. This began a feud that eventually boiled over into an not-so-well laid plan to extort the money out of him.
