164: How to Be a Better Writer Dec 12, 2023
    Show notes

Wondering how you can be a better writer and really grab your reader’s attention?

The key lies in understanding how a reader’s mind works. A good writer knows that their reader is smart and can figure a few things out for themselves.

In fact, a reader enjoys reading because they actually like figuring things out! Only an amateur writer misses the point of reading and hands everything to the reader directly. Make the journey exciting for them!

If you want to be a better writer and really captivate your readers, then start following this one simple rule: Show, don’t tell.

Listen in as Nika discusses how to be a better writer and create an enthralling experience for your readers by showing instead of telling.

159: When You Feel Like a Fraud Nov 07, 2023
    Show notes

Do you ever struggle with feeling like a fraud? Have you ever turned away big opportunities because you were afraid of looking foolish?

We’ve all had those moments where we tell ourselves that we just don’t know enough or aren’t good enough to teach or guide others.

But it’s not about being good enough or knowing enough.

    Truly, what is “enough”?

There will be times where you encounter things that you didn’t expect. Once you encounter the unexpected, you’re no longer prepared. Preparation only takes you as far as your expectation.

The only way to get better at recovering from the unexpected is to go through it. The more you encounter the unexpected, the better you’ll get at responding to it, and the less you’ll feel like a fraud.

Come listen in as Nika discusses:
    • What to do when you feel like a fraud
    • How to become the person who handles the unexpected
    • Reframing fraud and how to embrace it rather than run from it
    • Her new acronym for fraud
    • How we destroy our opportunities when we allow fraud to win

    158: What to Do On a Low-Energy Day Oct 31, 2023
    Show notes

What do you do when you have a low-energy day and can’t find the motivation to write?

Low-energy days like to sneak up on us from time to time and make us think that what we’re doing isn’t going to work. We believe that we can’t make the seeds we are planting grow.

    Here’s the truth friend…

We can’t make the seeds grow.

Our responsibility as Christ-followers and stewards of the blessings God has given us is to plant the seeds and water them.

That’s it. Only God can make the seeds grow.

In the process of planting real seeds, a gardener digs up the earth, plants the seed in the nourishing soil, and waters it continuously to help it grow. However, the growth process occurs deep within the earth. The gardener cannot see the seed grow within the soil and he does not make the growth happen. He simply nourishes the seed and trusts that the growth will come.

Our thoughts, words, and actions are the seeds that we plant, and faith and prayer is how we water them. When we let go of the expectation that we should be making the seeds grow, then we can focus entirely on nourishing the seeds and enjoy the beauty that unfolds once the seeds have grown.

Come be encouraged as Nika shares:
    • Her own challenges with feeling unmotivated and uninspired
    • How to dig underneath the thoughts and emotions that are causing that low-energy feeling
    • How to plant and water seeds
    • The truth of reaping and sowing
    • How to simplify anything to 3-5 steps
    • How to think about the future in the present tense

157: When You Miss a Due Date Oct 24, 2023
    Show notes

What do you do when you set writing goals for yourself only to then miss the due date entirely?

If you’ve missed your writing due date, you may be struggling with disappointment and guilt.

But, writer, you are not a failure!

In today’s episode, Nika shares a special segment from a coaching call that took place in her weekly Anointed Writers coaching group.

In the call, Nika’s student opened up about the due date she had set for her writing goal and the disappointment she felt when she missed it.

Through a series of questions, Nika helps her get down to the root thoughts and feelings of the situation. And you might be surprised to know that the solution does not lie in setting better writing goals!

When we can reframe our thoughts from negative self-judgment and instead judge ourselves favorably, we can then break free from the guilt and disappointment that holds us back.

Come listen in as Nika and her Anointed Writers student discuss:
    • Trying to change what’s already been done or has passed
    • What happens when you start to avoid your goal
    • How to avoid an unintentional thought model
    • How to create an intentional thought model
    • How to focus on the good things that have come from the situation rather than the bad
