    The Karen Kenney Show

Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Podcaster and Coach. She’s known for her dynamic storytelling, her sense of humor, her Boston accent and her no-bullshit approach to spirituality, self development, and transformational work.

She’s been a yoga teacher for 25 years, is a Certified Gateless Writing Instructor, and is also an author, speaker, retreat leader and the host of The Karen Kenney Show podcast.

A curious human being, life-long learner and an entrepreneur for 20+ years, KK brings a down-to-earth perspective to the spiritual principles and practical tools that create powerful shifts in people’s lives, relationships and businesses.

She works with people individually in her 1:1 program THE QUEST – and in her group program THE NEST.

Her approach brings together tools that coach both the conscious and unconscious mind. She combines Brain Science, Subconscious Reprogramming, Integrative Hypnosis, and Spiritual Mentorship to help clients regulate their nervous systems, remove blocks, rewrite stories, rewire beliefs, and reimagine what’s possible!

Karen wants her clients to have their own lived experience with spirituality and to not just “take her word for it”. She encourages them to discover and deepen their own personal connection to Self, Source and Spirit in tangible and actionable ways.

Her “Your Story To Your Glory” process helps people to shift their minds from an old thought system of fear to one of Love – using compassion, empirical evidence and humor, her work is effective, efficient, and wicked fun!

KK’s been a student of A Course in Miracles for 30 years, has been vegan for 20+ years, and believes that a little kindness can make a big difference.

Integrative Hypnosis with Melissa Tiers Dec 29, 2022
    Show notes

I’m wicked excited because today on The Karen Kenney Show, I’m talking to one of my beloved mentors, the multi-award-winning author and in my own words “super-duper smarty pants”, Melissa Tiers!

Melissa is the founder of the Center for Integrative Hypnosis in New York and it’s been said about her, “When it comes to coaching and the brain, Melissa Tiers is known as ‘the teachers’ teacher’ all over the world.”

So when I had a chance to work with her to expand and deepen my own skill set, to experience her magic and to get certified in Integrative Hypnosis and “coaching the unconscious mind” - it was a total no brainer!

Melissa is hands down one of the most curious people you’ll ever meet.

I would even say that it’s her enthusiastic curiosity that first brought and now keeps Melissa as a sought after-hypnotist, and one of the top brilliant minds and thought leaders in her field of work.

She’s always fascinated by about altered states of consciousness, the limits of everyday human perceptions and how we can learn to bend and shape them.

Even after writing four books (three of them award-winning), teaching all over the planet and with decades of studying, intense seeking, and hands on experience on the topic of the unconscious mind, she’ll still tell you that she doesn’t know it all.

She knows that there is always room to expand her knowledge, research and experiment further and continue to play in this area of neuroscience that can, does and will make a difference for humanity in an ongoing way.

It’s this beautiful blend of compassion, confidence, and curiosity that first attracted me to her as a teacher (that along with her NY accent and her liberal use of adult language) and keeps her as someone that I’m thrilled to get to study with and continue to learn from!

Are you curious now too? If so, buckle up; this is going to be a fun ride!

Turn Words Into Works Dec 22, 2022
    Show notes

When you’re doing personal development or spiritual growth work, it can be wicked easy to just gather lots of information and give the ol’ ego a feeling of satisfaction and superiority for checking another box!

    I read that book. (check)

I listened to that podcast. (check)

    I took that course. (check)

A lot of times people are doing all these things as a performative function, and not so much for the true depth of learning that actually comes from applying, practicing, embodying, living and being.

In order for “miracles” to happen” - for that shift in perception, from fear to Love, to take place - or what I would call “your story to your glory” - where we’re really able to change our minds and transform ourselves through Divine alchemy, we need to turn the words we read, hear and consume into actual works.

This requires taking action and not just talking about it. It requires us to take the things that we've heard and listened to, and actually spend some time getting a little intimate with them.

As my friend Maryanne Sea says, “Information doesn't heal, intimacy heals.”

Today on the Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about getting intimate with the words we receive whether those words come to us through reading, a course, a podcast, or the teachings of a mentor, and turning them into works by practical application.

The living, being, embodying, practicing, and applying of them - if we want to see true, lasting, life altering change.

Are you ready to turn your words into works and walk the walk and not just talk the talk?

Your Mind Has Its Own Podcast Dec 15, 2022
    Show notes

I was talking with a client of mine and she mentioned how much she loves and appreciates my podcast. She said that she loves hearing my voice in her head! Ha!

It got me thinking about how each of us is always channeling internal voices in our minds.

The voice we hear “in our head” that I would equate to a personal podcast with many stations.

What influences how you feel, the direction you go in, how quickly you take action and how far you make it, is often just a matter of which station or show you are listening to…

    • Are you listening to the voice of Love or the one of fear?
    • Are you letting the ego run the show all the time or are you turning to Spirit?
    • Are you tuning into your inner teacher that’s in communion with your intuition and the divine?
    • Or is your dial set to what writer Anne Lamott calls, “Radio Station KFKD?”

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about the inner voice that lives inside each of us, aka” our own personal podcast.

Just like how some podcasts don’t always provide the most helpful content, the voice in our head doesn’t always share the best quality content either!

When that happens, it’s our job to recognize the static and chatter and to change the station to something that supports, encourages or inspires.

So, what inner “personal podcasts” are you downloading and listening to every day?

    KK's Takeaways:

    • Your Personal Podcast (5:30)

Suck It In A Bucket Dec 08, 2022

    "SUCK IT IN A BUCKET"

I think that there’s a lot of misperceptions and expectations about people who are supposed to be - quote, unquote, “spiritual”.

There’s this belief that spiritual people are supposed to look, sound, or be a particular way.

The reality is, as a spiritual person and spiritual mentor - I can also show up in what I call a highly “spirited” kind-of-way. I

Which means I might not fit the idea, image or expectation that somebody else made up in their own head.

For example: It doesn’t make me or you a “bad person” to have boundaries we adhere to.

Sometimes the most loving thing you can say to somebody is a firm “No.”

Especially if the thing they're about to do or speak - is not only going to possibly be harmful to others, but could also be harmful to themselves.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I’m talking about how as spiritual beings, we can be highly connected and still be wicked down-to-earth.

We can be "super spiritual", and still “swear like a sailor”!

We can be kind, compassionate and loving and still call bullsh*t, when we see it.

Being “spiritual” doesn't mean we have to just sit back, accept or put up with the things other people try to throw our way, especially if it's bad, hurtful or disrespectful.

We can be deeply spiritual, and also be deeply spirited, at the same time!

    KK's Takeaways:

    • Spiritually Bypass (15:47)

Door Stopper Words Dec 01, 2022
    Show notes

As you go throughout your day, pay attention to the way that you talk to yourself, listen to the words that you use and notice how they make you feel when you hear them, echo back to you.

Are there any that cause you to slam on the brakes?

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about what one of my teachers, Melissa Tiers, likes to call “door stopper” words.

Where in your life, whether personal or business, or in your mind or when talking about your dreams/goals are you using the kind of words that have some sort of neural association for you - that just don't allow you to move forward, or take action toward your true potential?

Sometimes, it's just a matter of a small adjustment to your words and story that can make all the difference.

For instance when I say to my clients, “I'm not assigning you homework, I'm assigning you ‘heart work’.”

That subtle shift in perspective can move it from something we don’t want to do, to something that lights us on fire!

So often, just by slightly adjusting the lens and language, and looking at something from a different viewpoint, we’re able to move ourselves from fear to Love and no longer be held back from what it is we’re here to do!

The Power of Gratitude Nov 24, 2022
    Show notes

The word gratitude derives from the Latin word “Gratia” meaning grace or graciousness. I think the beautiful thing about it is, when we feel gratitude, it kind of encompasses all of these things, that feeling of graciousness, gratefulness, and ultimately grace, all in one.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I’m talking about the power of gratitude and how the act of being thankful brings so much power with it, that we sometimes miss in our hurried ways of extending it.

It’s wicked easy to take Gratitude for granted.

The “idea” of it gets thrown around so much in our culture - to the point that it almost becomes something we just say “or do” without any real thinking or feeling behind it.

Today I’d like to encourage us all to slow down, pause for a moment and really allow ourselves to tune into the gratitude we are thinking, speaking and feeling and let it wash over us with its sacred loving-connection.

Let's get into the habit of when we do feel grateful - to pause, take a deep breath in, exhale it out twice as long… and really see or imagine in our mind what or who it is we’re grateful for. Then move that feeling down from the head to the heart.

Say goodbye to just “checking the box” of gratitude practice and instead experience it at the soul level extending the grace, gratefulness and graciousness to the humans, animals and Nature all around us.

    KK's Takeaways:

    • Slow Down & Tune In (10:06)
    • Daily Spiritual Practice Or DSP (13:11)

Giving Credit Matters Nov 17, 2022
    Show notes

It's really uncool to lift, use, and steal other people's intellectual property, words, ideas, quotes, music, all of it - without giving credit.

Now this doesn’t mean we can’t share what we learned from someone else, or talk about who or what inspired us, but this is where and why the importance of giving acknowledgement and attribution, must come into play.

The reality is, if you don’t give credit and you rely on copying others - instead of finding and using your own voice, you're not only taking from others, you’re also robbing yourself and the world of the opportunity to discover your own unique wisdom, words, and work!

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about giving credit where credit is due because on so many different levels, it matters.

This episode is my invitation to you, to slow down, take a good look at how you're showing up online, in your business and in your personal life and then ask yourself…

    • What do you want to do?
    • Who do you want to be?
    • How do you want to show up?
    • What are the core values that deeply matter to you?

And if you take nothing else away from today, remember this…

“It costs you nothing to give credit where credit is due, but it could cost you everything if you don't.”

Can't Always Get What You Want Nov 10, 2022
    Show notes

There have been times in my life when, Thank God - I didn't get what I wanted.

Now of course, in the moment there may have been some feelings of disappointment or upset, especially if it was something I really had my heart set on.

But the reality is… we sometimes project ourselves onto these desires outside of our heart, claiming them as personal wants, with thoughts like “I must have this thing” or “I won't be complete without it.”

This can result in us missing the truth that sometimes the thing we think we want, is not actually what we truly need.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about how not always getting everything we ask for can sometimes be a blessing in disguise.

When we start to get emotionally “addicted” or attached to something and begin to act desperate for it, that’s usually a sign that something is at work and it’s not our highest self.

Sometimes we need to just calm down, take a step back and wait for the directional download to come to us. It doesn’t need us to pull it in.

Clawing our way towards something that isn’t meant for us isn’t super helpful, so let’s do our best to make a shift toward gratitude and patience and together see what incredible, next steps it brings.

At Your Core Nov 03, 2022
    Show notes

At the core of who we truly are, there lies a unique and beautiful individual being and soul who is here for a purpose.

Unfortunately, sometimes as children life can hit us wicked hard with the kind of stuff that alters, shifts and changes us.

The kind of events, experiences and environments that begin to shape and mold how we see ourselves, the people around us, the world, and our place in it.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about going back to the core of who we are.

Remembering the beautiful, sparkly, Divine self that lives unchanging inside each of us.

The core that has been covered up, much like those Russian Nesting Dolls, by stories, memories, beliefs, habits and old conditioning.

Layers built from pain, hurt, trauma, grief, let downs and all the other challenging stuff that life sometimes throws our way.

This is where a deeper look at who we are, where we came from and why we feel as we do is so important.

It’s in these awarenesses and realizations that allows us to move into asking …

What am I going to do about it now? And at what point am I willing to say, “the buck stops here?”

Join me today in no longer focusing on and identifying so much with our ever-changing ego self, and the outer physical shell that will one day eventually fall away…

But instead putting our focus on what forever remains unchanged inside us and ask…

What is really at our core?

    KK's Takeaways:

    • Russian Nesting Dolls (6:12)
    • At Your Core (10:51)
    • The Unchanging, Eternal Self (15:47)

The Voices We Carry with J.S. Park Oct 27, 2022
    Show notes

I first discovered my guest online and was so deeply moved by his writing. The honesty, vulnerability and storytelling that he shared really landed in my heart and I got wicked curious about who he was and how he was inspiring the world.

So I put on my little detective hat and dug further into the online life of Joon Park. It was this dive that brought me to his website; home to his very short, succinct and fascinating bio and that drew me in even further. I just knew that I had to have him on my show.

Fast forward to today on The Karen Kenney Show... and it’s such a happy honor to share this conversation with chaplain and author, J.S. Park.

We talk not only about his current life and role in working with grief-stricken people on a daily basis in one of the top ranked hospitals in the US, but we also look closer at the pain he himself experienced growing up as a Korean kid born to immigrant parents in the US.

We take a look at how his experiences as a child, a former atheist and a martial artist shaped him to be the person he is and the path he walks today.

Our conversation covered so many powerful topics that I believe will hit you right in the heart. For this reason, I don’t want to give too much away. I believe it would be better suited and way more fun, to have you experience the wonderful Joon for yourself.

If this has piqued your curiosity, (and I super hope it has) and you want to know more about Joon like I did, then buckle up and join me for this fantastic, deeply heartfelt, inspiring conversation with J. S Park.
