    Show notes

The California high-speed rail project has been plagued by delays, cost overruns, and controversy since its inception. But how bad is it really? This episode takes a closer look at the project's history, its current state, and the people affected by it.

The project, which was initially estimated to cost $33.5 billion, has now ballooned to a staggering $230 billion. The state has spent nearly $6 billion in delay and change order fees to contractors, with some companies raking in $170,000 a day in delay fees. The project's CEO, Ian Chowdhury, admits that the process has been flawed from the start, and that building happened too soon. But what about the people affected by this project? We hear from a farmer who had 81 acres of his land taken by the state for the project, and a business owner who has seen his property disrupted by the constant construction. The state's handling of the project has been criticized by many, including the inspector general, who says that the project's plan is dramatically incomplete and needs to be revised.

If you want to understand the full extent of the California high-speed rail project's problems, tune in to this episode to hear the shocking truth. Join us as we explore the project's history, its current state, and the people affected by it.

    Show notes

This episode of the John Phillips Show is a must-listen for anyone concerned about the latest attempt by California's unelected bureaucrats to control every aspect of our lives. The state's Energy Commission has decided to regulate tires like appliances, effectively taking away 70% of the options available to consumers. This move is part of a broader trend of over-regulation that's making life more expensive for Californians.

The speaker delves into the details of this new standard, which will supposedly save consumers money in the long run, but will actually increase the upfront cost of buying tires. The discussion touches on the fact that this regulation is not supported by the majority of the tire industry, and that the benefits it's supposed to bring are questionable. The speaker also highlights the absurdity of comparing tires to appliances, and the potential consequences of this regulation on the state's economy.

The conversation also explores the idea that this regulation is part of a larger pattern of the state's government trying to control every aspect of our lives, from what we drive to what we buy. The speaker notes that this is not a pro-consumer move, but rather a way for the state to dictate what's best for us. The discussion also touches on the fact that this regulation will disproportionately affect low-income communities and small businesses.

If you're concerned about the direction California is heading and the impact it's having on your wallet, this episode is a must-listen. Tune in to hear the full discussion and learn more about the implications of this regulation on the state's economy and its citizens.
