The Official Letter cited, among many things, “discrimination against White and Asian Americans” as a basis to end all civil rights-gained programs, funding, scholarships and set asides, enacted to address and repair historic educational inequalities due to racism. This letter was released late on Valentine’s Day, last Friday, with little news surrounding it

Rightfully, “love day” — Valentine’s Day —falls smack dab in the middle of Black History month. Where color dictates the buds of love, we choose a better way - the peace of a river or the flight of a dove. On this Valentine’s Day, Jesse Jackson Jr. spends time tilling the soil of our historical garden, rooting us in a protected path. Strolling through this colorful space, he plants many seeds - a box full of chocolates - for our reflective embrace. With a misty rain caught in his eye, he waters our souls so our roots never die. Found in this hour is our search for depth - a moment to breathe, without holding our breadth. Jesse presents us with our flowers - faith and hope with love as the power.

This is an ongoing issue that we cannot afford to be ignorant of, or to ignore.
