While acknowledging the blessing of his legacy, Gordy recounts the sobering history of Black musical artists as they traveled the road of entertainment from absent royalties to the quest for respect that continues to this day. As we approach the nation’s Fourth of July celebration, Jesse and Kerry reflected on the struggle that still meets artists at the same time that the US Senate continued to debate the final measures of the “Big Beautiful Bill.” Here’s where Tuesday’s weekly series, “On the Grind with Barbara Arnwine” took the baton and ran with the very real, and sobering assessment of how devastating this legislation is to the 17 million Americans whose struggle will intensify when the cuts- that effect essential aid from health care to hunger - take their bite.

Yvonne Gilmore, joined the conversation to discuss Owen’s new book, “Staying at the Table” - scheduled for release on July 12th, which serves as a push for all believers to shun the hypocrisy that critics may assign to the church in exchange for a “unity” born from love - a vision to talk, to serve, to work together - to fight for the cause of Jesus. In a blunt call to “become a catalyst for change” Owens authors a vision for faith, hope and change amidst our impending chaos…where everyone is invited, and welcome to “stay at the table.”

Towns for “Reflectivity.” This was a dialogue that took off like an olympic team sport, swimming in the deep waters of our faith, the rule of law, “we the people,” and the ideals of “one another” and “on earth as it is in heaven” - a place where the moral code meets the civil code and a nation flourishes because the “people” flourish. This conversation is one for every American to chew on, digest, and get a second helping. We’re not done with this one any time soon.
