    The Immeasurable Podcast

The Immeasurable is dedicated to exploring the essential questions of our existence; who we are and where we are going. The intent is to inspire listeners to question assumptions of the mind, offering opportunities to ask deep questions into common life themes that are superficially accepted. We take no ideological positions except to encourage the spirit of inquiry. We aim to provide an in-depth look at dialogue and exploration around Krishnamurti’s teachings. There will be interviews of people who have spent time with Krishnamurti, as well as explorations around the content of his teachings, our programs, and our annual conference. The Immeasurable is a project of the Krishnamurti Center in Ojai, CA. The KFA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

    TEACHINGS: Psychological Suffering | J. Krishnamurti & Scientists | Part 2 Jun 15, 2021
    Show notes

The Immeasurable Podcast is highlighting the four part series from Ojai in 1982 where J. Krishnamurti spoke with Rupert Sheldrake, David Bohm and John Hidley about the nature of the mind. You can visit Pine Cottage where this conversation took place, and where Krishnamurti lived and passed away, during visiting hours at the Krishnamurti Library in Ojai, CA. Please go to kfa.org for details.
    J. Krishnamurti - Ojai 1982 - Discussion with Scientists 2 - Psychological Suffering
    Summary:
    What is security?
I have an image about myself. I am a great cook, a great scientist, a great carpenter, whatever you will. I have got that picture in myself and you come along and put a pin into it. And that gets hurt, the image gets hurt. The image is me.
    What is a human being?
You are not basically different from me. You may be tall, you may be born in England, I may be born in Africa, I have dark skin, but deep down, the river, the content of the river is the water. The river is not an Asiatic river or European river, it is a river.
Love is not English, American or Indian. Agony is not yours or mine, it is agony. But we identify ourselves with agony - it is my agony, which is not yours. Why do we want to identify with something?
Is there a learning about oneself which is not constant accumulation about myself?

EXPLORATION: The Nature Of Dialogue | Jackie McInley | Episode 1 Apr 02, 2021
    Show notes

To register for Jackie McInley's upcoming ONLINE program click on this link: An Exploration of Hurt in Our Lives (April 19th-23rd, 2021) from the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
In the following podcast, Jackie McInley explores the nature of dialogue with Henry Fischer. This is part of an on-going series looking at the habitual ways we approach any topic with another person. Do we freely listen or do we bring beliefs and conclusions to our conversations and react from them? Are we more mechanical than we realize?
Some topics in this series include: What is dialogue, what makes it different? What does it mean to relate to someone directly? Is there a "psychological wound" which is commonly avoided? Can we see the movement of thought without any psychological separation from it?
As we continue to meet this mechanical process through direct observation and ask penetrating questions without relating to them from memory, do we begin to knock at the door of the what Krishnamurti calls "the immeasurable"?

INTERVIEW: Rupert Spira | Part 1 | Interviewed at the Krishnamurti Educational Center in Ojai, CA Mar 08, 2021
    Show notes

In the following episode of The Immeasurable Podcast, we interview Rupert Spira.
Rupert Spira is a well known author and public speaker in the non-dual contemplative tradition. He has written many books including Being Aware of Being Aware, The Nature of Consciousness and The Ashes of Love. For more on Rupert's work click here.

In this episode, Jaap Sluijter and Henry Fischer explore Rupert's work and how it directly relates to the teachings of J. Krishnamurti:

    • Introduction by Henry Fischer :25
    • Rupert Spira on his early experience with J. Krishnamurti 1:05
    • Jaap Sluijter talks about Rupert's podcast with Sam Harris and a focus on semantics and perennial questions 2:25
    • Jaap asks about emotionality in the sense of "wanting to find comfort in a true self" 4:41
    • Rupert talks about the search for happiness not being a trap but instead a clue to who we really are 7:10
    • Jaap responds and says Krishnamurti says that, 'as long as there is still conflict the "other" doesn't come into being' 8:52
    • Rupert says, "that which truly IS never comes into being" 10:29
    • Jaap asks, "how do you approach that?" and "wouldn't the mind have to be free to come in contact with this?" 11:35
    • Rupert gives an analogy of John Smith and King Lear to illustrate what he is saying 12:00
    • Jaap asks about self-recognition or remembering oneself and how it is different from "remembering" where you put your shoes 16:40
    • Rupert explains that this remembering is vertical (going within) and not along the horizontal plane of memory 17:15
    • Jaap goes back to emotionality and wonders if there is this desire for one's "true self" which may be a kind of illusion and not an actual reality 18:28
    • Rupert says there is something more beautiful prior to all the seeking and that who we are is prior to any kind of seeking 19:38
    • Jaap asks, "does truth come into being via positiva or via negativa?" 21:00
    • Rupert says all that is required is the removal of ignoring what we truly are and Rupert says this is what Krishnamurti meant when he said, "the removal of fear" 21:48
    • Jaap again asks if this comes from removing the false or if it is instead important to try to see what is true 22:27
    • Rupert says they are two different ways of looking at the same thing 23:22
    • Jaap asks "how do we know it is true" 25:52
    • Rupert says "all illusions have a reality to them" 27:00
    • Jaap says Krishnamurti says "it's only when you don't seek a way out you see the suffering fully" 31:51
    • Rupert agrees and asks if we were instead to turn and face the suffering, what would the experience of accepting suffering feel like? 32:27
    • Henry points out the difficulty with turning toward something without motive 33:14
    • Rupert asks us to do the experiment of turning toward suffering with no escape and says the common word for it is "happiness" 33:28
    • Henry brings the King Lear analogy back up and asks if in this recognition of our true nature is mediated by the senses at all 35:55
    • Rupert says his use of the word "knowing" has nothing to do with conceptual knowledge but instead he uses interchangeably with awareness 37:35
    • Jaap doubts this sense "I am" because he says it has continuity 41:36
    • Rupert responds and asks what is the reality of the illusion of continuity in your experience? 42:21
    • Jaap asks if the "desire to be" might bring about this continuity 43:13

This is the limit on notes permitted for this episode. To see more notes go to our YouTube channel "Krishnamurti Educational Center" to see a video of this podcast on or after March 22nd, 2021.

TEACHINGS: Can One Experience The Infinite? Feb 15, 2021
    Show notes

    J. Krishnamurti & Swami Venkatesananda – Saanen 1969 – Dialogue 2 – Can one experience the infinite?
Why do we always attach ourselves to something which we suppose to be the highest?
We use the word ‘experience’ very easily. Can we experience the feeling of supreme ecstasy? Can we experience the infinite?
Can the mind which is conditioned, prejudiced and frightened experience the highest?
When fear and conditioning cease, is there experiencing of the highest at all?
If the entity which is fear and anxiety has dissolved its fear, what is there to experience?
What is the purpose of experience? Is there the need of experience at all?
Being in a state in which there is no peace, we want to experience a state of absolute, permanent, eternal peace.
If the mind can free itself from agony then what is the need to ask for an experience of the supreme?

INTERVIEW: What Are The Challenges? Feb 05, 2021
    Show notes

Season two begins with a discussion between Jaap Sluijter, Francisco Mazza and Henry Fischer about the unique challenges in producing The Immeasurable Podcast. Topics include:

    • What makes this podcast different from the standard interview format?
    • What are we trying to accomplish?
    • Why are we including new content with people who aren't Krishnamurti? Why don't we just include K talks alone on our podcast channel?
    • How does this related to the work of The Immeasurable and KFA (or K center)?
    • Why are we interviewing people who are teachers and even considered by some as gurus?
