Did yesterday change your opinion of Geno Smith? Is he the quarterback of the future, for now? Ian pores through what we saw yesterday from the Seahawks. Where would you rank Geno right now. The Daily Power Play! Plus, Ichiro and Felix are on the HOF ballot - Ichiro is a no-brainer, but what are Felix's chances to get in the first time around? Hugh Millen joins Ian to break down the Seahawks comeback win over the Niners yesterday and dives into the tape to discuss who had the biggest impact and what the game tells us about the individuals that did. He tells us what he's seen from JSN this season and tries to get into his head. Hugh Millen sticks with it and takes us inside the Seahawks' final drive and, more importantly, how Geno Smith was able to pull it off. As always, he goes DEEP into the tape. Hugh Millen finishes things off with Ian by telling him how the Seahawks were able to limit explosives in this game, as compared to last time they faced each other. Mike Sando, The Athletic joins Ian to take a trip around the NFL. As we were watching the Seahawks, a LOT more happened around the league and Mike gives the latest look at who's in, who's out and which coaches might be on the hot seat. Plus, are the 49ers suffering a Super Bowl hangover for the losing team? Of course, he weighs in on the Seahawks win and just how big a win this was for Mike Macdonald.

Furness Show 11-14: Stewart Mandel, Corbin Smith and Brandon Funston Nov 14, 2024
    Show notes

Dave Simms is heading to New York in a report that has him replacing John Sterling on the Yankees radio broadcast. Ian recalls what a great broadcaster he's been in Seattle. Stewart Mandel, The Athletic CFB Insider joins Ian to discuss the news that John Mateer has seven-figure offers in the NIL, despite not being in the transfer portal. Is the transfer portal leveling the playing field within the power four or across the landscape? Plus the latest on the CFP rankings, who can rise and who will fall? Ian reacts to what Stewart had to say regarding the CFP. Corbin Smith, Seahawks Maven and Locked on Seahawks joins Ian to take a look ahead at the Seahawks game this weekend against the Niners. Corbin has a great update on Abe Lucas, tells us what he thinks about the offensive line right now and finally, discusses the linebacking change we saw earlier this week. Is Geno Smith the problem in Seattle? There ae other issues facing the Seahawks. However, next year's draft class is not one where we expect to find the future at quarterback. Bottom line is, they have very good pieces in place, so we're not looking at a total rebuild in the near future. Brandon Funston, The Athletic Fantasy Expert kicks off the unofficial start of the weekend. He answers all of our fantasy questions - as well as yours.

Furness Show 11-13: Jarran Reed, Steve Palazzolo and Mike Holmgren Nov 13, 2024
Show notes Jarran Reed, Seahawks DT sits down with Ian for a fantastic interview ranging from bye week process, the lockerroom and the motivation behind the game. He also weighs in on the team's decision to part ways with Tyrel Dotson. The College Football Playoff rankings came out yesterday and Ian goes through some head-scratchers. Steve Palazzolo, The 33rd Team gives Ian a full breakdown of the Seahawks season to date, how they match up against the NFC West and what the rest of the league looks like right now. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald provided us updates on Abe Lucas, DK Metcalf and what the bye week provided. We listen in. Mike Holmgren, Legendary Coach joins us from California where he's fresh off the European rivers. He's surprised by the move to release Tyrel Dodson and wonders if there's a backstory there. However, if the defense prioritizes the linebackers it makes more sense. He thinks the Seahawks will try and sign Geno Smith to another contract considering what we're seeing in the next draft class. Finally, Coach reacts to the firing of Shane Waldron in Chicago.

Furness Show 11-12: Jon Ryan, MollyWhop and Cougar Roundtable Nov 12, 2024
    Show notes

The Mariners have an opportunity right now and it's difficult to predict what direction they'll go. Ian doesn't see 'huge' moves on the horizon, but is curious about this winter. There are a lot of transitions around this market that could open an opportunity for the Mariners to seize it. Jon Ryan, Former Seahawk tells Ian that it always hurts in the lockerroom when a teammate gets cut, but it's all a part of the bus John Schneider cut him in Green Bay AND Seatte, but they're still friends. He tells us what "Dinner on Delta" is all about. He thinks those who have questions about John Schneider need to be patient. Finally, he definitely feels as though the 49ers are still the Seahawks biggest rival, but doesn't feel as though it's a tough 'road challenge'. Shane Waldron was fired nine games into his tenure with the Bears. It's very reactionary, but something needed to happen. In football people tend to look for the 'next someone' but sometimes there's only one. MollyWhop! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join Ian to discuss just what the Mariners should be doing this off-season. Just because the Mariners are off, the boys aren't. There is some anticipation on what the Mariners will do this year. Best moves, worst moves and more. Following the firing of Shane Waldron, Emmanuel Acho spoke to a former pro bowler for the Seahawks - and he didn't have kind things to say. We speculate on who that may have been. Cougar Roundtablee! Alex Brink and Mkristo Bruce join Ian to break down the latest Cougar win, check out the portal and preview the final three games. Will John Mateer remain in Pullman? What should we expect in the postseason for Washington State?

Furness Show 11-11: Hugh Millen, Hardcore Football and Mike Sando Nov 11, 2024
    Show notes

There was a LOT going on in college football this weekend and it gave us plenty to discuss. Who would've known the changes in realignment would've freed so many up to speak their minds on officiating? Hugh Millen and Greg Cosell provided outstanding insight on Geno Smith and the offensive line last week and we revisit that conversation. BREAKING: The Seahawks release Tyrel Dotson. What does this say about John Schneider? Hugh Millen joins us and reacts to the news the Seahawks cut Tyrel Dotson. He thinks it makes a serious statement about Mike Macdonald as a head coach. Hugh also weighs in on the Huskies' season to date. Can they truly compete among the best in the Big 10? Utah Athletic Director. Mark Halan and SJSU HC, Ken Niumatalolo both took issues with officiating in their respective games over the weekend. We hear from them and discuss whether their complaints are justified. The Daily Power Play! Mike Sando, The Athletic isn't quite sure what to make of the Tyrel Dotson cut, but it's no secret that Mike Macdonald's defense has been subpar. We take a trip around the league to see who stands where in each division and who is in a total tailspin.

Furness Show 11-7: Stewart Mandel, Corbin Smith and Brandon Funston Nov 07, 2024
    Show notes

College athletics are a mess and the fault is on the NCAA. Coaches' roles are changing in the world of the NIL and while we've been seeing it play out in college football this season, we're already hearing the major impacts this could and will have on NCAA basketball. Stewart Mandel, The Athletic joins us to react to the first CFP rankings, which he says weren't that surprising and almost a rehash of the AP Poll. He breaks down the top CFP teams from top to bottom - who will fall and who could rise? Also, what surprises might we see throughout the rest of the season? Stewart takes us through the major headlines around CFB right now. The Seahawks' season has had its ups and downs, but most lately downs. Florida is keeping Billy Napier and this matters locally because there were rumors Jedd Fisch would leave for that spot if it opens up. Corbin Smith, Seahawks Maven and Locked on Seahawks tells Ian the Seahawks are rightfully ranked at the bottom of the NFC West. Why are they regressing in some areas? Corbin gives us a full-blown ranking of Seattle's position groups and who's to blame where things are going wrong. He also says that this team is playing for a top 3 draft pick next year without Geno Smith. If the Seahawks continue to lose, should they commit to a potential *horrid word* rebuild? Jake Dickert spoke with Ian yesterday whether he and the team are hearing noise surrounding the college football playoff. Ian also pressed him on his future at Washington State and Coach hopes Ian isn't the kiss of death like he was last year. The Daily Power Play! Brandon Funston, The Athletic kicks off the unofficial start of the weekend! He anwers all of the loyal listener fantasy football questions for this week. Listeners line up.

Furness Show 11-6: Steve Palazzolo, Jake Dickert and Gary Parrish Nov 06, 2024
    Show notes

We've got a lot going on today - CFP rankings are out, CBB is starting and there is a lot we continue to see change. We've seen an immersion of technology in sports and Ian is leaning toward excluding it all together. Ian wants to know where the listeners stand on this. He's undecided. Could the Big 12 provide a path for Boise State to get a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff? Some of us root for the chaos - and it looks as though that could happen. Listeners weigh in on the future of replay and technology across sports. Steve Palazzolo, The 33rd Team gives us an evaluation of the winners and losers at the NFL trade deadline this season. There are a few highlights about teams that were supposedly rebuilding, but succeeding at a high rate. Steve gives us a mid-season breakdown of the Seahawks as they sit at 4-5 on the season. Jake Dickert, WSU Head Football Coach joins Ian to talk about the first CFP rankings that has the Cougs ranked #21 in the country. While times are changing, he's rolling with the various waves. While there are complaints about the changes across the NCAA, in his words 'complaining is not a solution, it's not a strategy'. He is very appreciative of the boosters that have stepped up, as well as the fans that do the best they can. Gary Parrish, CBS CBB Insider tells Ian that the same thing we heard from Coach Dickert on the 'recruiting' going on without tampering being illegal. Programs aren't focused on the future anymore in the world of the NIL - they need to build the best program they can right now. It's crazy the demands that are being made these days.
