Whether you have 10 minutes or 2 hours, whether you’re looking to improve upon your health, mindset, wealth, general wellbeing, or simply want to expand your relationship to your self and those around you, this podcast has something for everyone. Show notes

Nadja Pinnavaia is the founder of Plantable , a whole foods, plant-based meal service that offers so much more than simply shipping delicious food to your doorstep (although it certainly does that!). After her mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer and began treatment, Nadja took it upon herself to research what truly creates total body health and to find that “silver bullet” to not only help cancer recovery, but to help others fend against it and create greater health and longevity. With a background in biochemistry and personal experience with shifting to a plant-based diet, Nadja created Plantable as a meal service rooted in just that— service and support, offering others a gateway for a happier, healthier way of living while loving every bite!

    Episode HYElights:

    • The greatest impact that a plant-based diet had on her life

    • How her background in biochemistry has influenced her understanding of how we form relationships with food

    • How Plantable came to be, and how it is helping people reverse diabetes and get off lifelong medication

    • How addiction to processed food is not unlike addiction to alcohol or cigarettes

    • How to regulate your hormonal response to food to better balance your blood sugar

    • How to shift into a more plant-based lifestyle, and how Plantable will set you up for success in that transition

    • What to look for when checking food labels

    • How to prevent “falling off the wagon,” or better yet, get rid of the wagon!

    • How to implement the Plantable way in your own kitchen

    • So much more!

018 // Gone Traveling: Leaving the 9-5 Behind, Working Remote, and Living Life to the Fullest Apr 26, 2019
    Show notes

Ever dream of traveling the world on nobody’s agenda but your own? Seeing and experiencing different cultures, meeting up with friends and loved ones in exotic places, trying new foods and discovering all you can about this incredible world? Samesies.

And I used to believe this could only ever remain a dream. But then, after lots of thought and reflection, I realized that it was only those limiting beliefs that were holding me back, and that I didn’t have to abide by the standards of corporate America in order to be successful and happy. In fact, it was that very 9-5 grind life that was keeping me from tapping into my full potential, following my passion, and ultimately creating my own success and happiness.

So? I left. And I don’t know exactly where or for how long, but I couldn’t be more sure about this being the best decision of my life.

    Episode HYElights:

    • Why I left New York City to travel indefinitely

    • How I decided I was ready to leave the 9-5 corporate world

    • I don’t have it all figured out, and that’s exactly the way I like it

    • My travel plans (and lack thereof!)

    • What to expect from The HYE Life gone nomad!

016 // My Hormone Story: Restriction, Birth Control & Hypothalamic Amenorrhea Mar 29, 2019
    Show notes

Let’s just say, today’s episode is pretty personal. While it seems the topic of hormones and birth control is all the rage these days, I haven’t previously shared too much about my story because I didn’t want to just add to the noise without making any effective contribution. Only now, from the research and studies I’ve done and the lengths I’ve gone through to get a better understanding of my own body, do I feel that I can’t share my story and experiences in an impactful way. I hope that, if nothing else, that this episode brings comfort to those going through anything similar in knowing they are not alone, and that your body is never messing up!

    Episode HYElights:

    • My story of restriction and how it was the perfect storm for my hypothalamic amenorrhea

    • How going on the pill at age 15 basically cut short my puberty (and how my body is trying to catch up now!)

    • My experience going off the pill, and how I handled the acne situation

    • How running functional medicine labs showed me deeper insights to my path to recovery

    • How stress is EVERYTHING, and can be coming from everywhere!

    • What I am doing now to get my period back, and why I KNOW it will— and yours will, too!

015 // The Secret to Habit Formation Mar 20, 2019
    Show notes

There is all this talk about the importance of routines and creating healthy habits, and we have such an interest in learning about other people’s routines. But have you stopped to think about why? What is the point of having a routine? Why do we want things to become habit? The immediate answer is simple: we do things repeatedly so that it eventually becomes something we just do, so that it becomes effortless— right? I argue that it’s not about the level of effort, but the intention behind the action that creates habits and determines their value in our life.

    Episode HYElights:

    • Understanding the true purpose of creating “habits” and “routines”

    • Why we shouldn’t strive for “effortlessness” when it comes to our healthy actions

    • How healthy habits can easily become unhealthy

    • Why its OK to change your habits that no longer serve you

    014 // Functional Medicine Detox Q&A Mar 20, 2019
    Show notes

As you may know, I am a huge proponent of functional medicine detoxes. Unlike a "cleanse" or juicing or other detoxes that are truly more like elimination diets, an FM detox will allow your body to go through phase 1 & 2 of liver detoxification in order to cleanse the body, eliminate toxins and toxic water retention (le worst), reduce inflammation and allergies (bye sniffles!), bloating (so over it), improve digestion, boost energy, and SO much more. I have begun doing these 7-day detoxes seasonally to help my body prepare for new temperatures, new foods, and flush out any stagnant energy. I have gotten several questions about the detox, what it’s like, how to do one, etc and went on Instagram to do a live Q&A last week that I’ve now brought to the podcast!

I will be doing my next one starting on Monday April 7, 2019 and would LOVE to have you join me! If you're interested in participating, simply sign up here!

    Episode HYElights:

    • What exactly is a functional medicine liver detox?

    • Why should I do this, and how is it different from just eating clean?

    • What all am I allowed to eat? Can I even eat at all?? (hint: ohhhh yes!)

    • Can I workout during the detox?

    • Will I lose weight? What if I don't want to lose weight, can I still do it?

011 // Self-Imposed Stress, Self Sabotage, and Why Choosing The Easy Option Isn't a Sign of Weakness Feb 20, 2019
    Show notes

We’re often told to challenge ourselves, to continually push ourselves past our comfort zone, to try again, and be okay with failing the first few times. And while challenging your abilities is no doubt on the path to growth, so too it can end up challenging and belittling our confidence. We can’t forget what we know and do best. There is still strength in choosing to do what you know you’re good at, and embracing those talents for what they are—gifts.
