Traveling north east from the Wetwood, tended by the Woods Witch Gudrun, Red finds himself at Nistrad keep, a strategic linchpin for the Northern Orthodox nation of Kemovek. Here Red learns of a strange custom among the nobility: intentional self infection with a mutagenic virus to prolong their lives, however it would seem the Lord's son's genetics carry with them a curious reaction to this otherwise lifesaving panacea.

In this followup to Case 001, Edom Masfah, head of the Radulf Burntwine Institute and former apprentice to Red, offers his... notes on Red's treatment of his patient. Suffice to say, academic review is rarely a pleasure for the one being reviewed and the pressures to follow rigid and myopic procedure in exchange for publication takes its toll.

In this debut case of The Heresies of Radulf Burntwine, disgraced cleric and field researcher Radulf Burntwine documents the aftermath of a viral outbreak in a remote Kemovek village following an attack from a mysterious vagrant known only as Patient Zero.

Told through Radulf's personal audio recordings, transcribed onto steel filament using salvaged monastery technology, Case 001 introduces listeners to the world of the Olam and the divine plagues of the Nagifim.
