125: Facing Giants (Deuteronomy 28:7) Aug 17, 2021

Show notes

The mighty man of valor, King David, knew the Scriptures well. To a casual onlooker, his bold advance upon Goliath would seem foolhardy at best, and absolute suicide at worst. However, to the attentive disciple of the Warrior Ethos, David employed a perfect combination of faith in God and decisively courageous action in the defeat of his opponent. In other words, David knew how to face giants, and we can learn from his example.

123: Fireguard Duty (Mark 14:32-38) Aug 03, 2021

Show notes

In the warrior culture, falling asleep at night was risky business. In the dark, unaware of their physical environment, and completely unguarded, a warrior was vulnerable to attack. In light of this (pun intended), a practice gradually developed called "Fireguard" in which one warrior slept, while another remained awake, kept watch, and provided protection. Get ready for an episode that will fundamentally change the way you think about Jesus' taking on the implications of staying awake!

117: Behold, the God-Man Jun 22, 2021

Show notes

When Jesus asked, "Who do you say I am?" (Matthew 16:15), He proposed a question of such epic proportion that humankind can barely comprehend or understand it. More to the point is that Jesus seems to suggest that the Gospel is not first and foremost concerned with His ethics or moral teaching. Rather, the Gospel is supremely interested in who Jesus is.

116: The Spirit of the Lord (Luke 4:14-19) Jun 15, 2021

Show notes

How did Jesus live His life of miracles, resist all temptation, and abide in perfect obedience to the will of His Father? For many Christians, the answer is: "Because Jesus is God!" Although it is a glorious truth that Jesus Christ is indeed the Second Person of the Trinity, how do we account for Scripture that commands us to be like Him, and follow in His steps? Because we do not have a divine nature and are not God, is it fair for biblical writers to command us to live like Christ? Tune in for an episode that will fundamentally change the way you think about the gift and power of the Holy Spirit.
