Episode 85: Legislative Wins, Spiritual Warfare, and the Call to Action May 30, 2025
    Show notes

In this episode, Nathan shares critical updates on two significant legislative battles in California—Assembly Bill 1454, which originally targeted homeschool families with invasive HVAC inspections, and a controversial student ID card bill that pushed LGBTQ+ messaging to minors. Hear how advocacy efforts led to key amendments and victories in both cases.

But the fight isn’t over. Nathan unpacks the urgent need for a full-time legislative assistant and additional interns to stand in the gap at the Capitol. If you’ve ever wondered how to get involved in preserving homeschool freedom, now is the time.

Finally, Nathan shifts the focus to a higher calling: the biblical command to pray for our leaders. He urges believers to intercede for their salvation and wisdom, reminding us that effective advocacy begins on our knees.

Episode 84: Mayhem Relief, Upcoming Conference, and New CHEA Podcast May 09, 2025
    Show notes

Nathan Pierce from Family Protection Ministries shares about a new CHEA podcast, featuring his wife as the first guest. He also highlights the upcoming CHEA convention at Biola University, where he and his family will be participating, and encourages both new and experienced homeschoolers to attend.

He promotes his fall government class for high schoolers, offering a 50% discount for CHEA members. The class aims to equip students with a biblical understanding of government, economics, and civic involvement.

Finally, Nathan gives legislative updates on two bills. AB 1454, once concerning school HVAC systems, has been gutted and amended and now focuses solely on public school literacy and no longer affects homeschoolers. AB 84 imposes new restrictions on charter schools, illustrating growing government control over publicly funded education, though it does not directly impact private homeschoolers.

Episode 80: The Fight for Parental Rights in California Dec 20, 2024
    Show notes

In this podcast episode, Nathan discusses several key issues affecting families in California. He particularly focuses on recent developments in the California Legislature. He highlights Governor Newsom's staff changes related to his opposition to Prop 36, which aims to redefine crime in California. Nathan also mentions a state of emergency declared by Newsom due to a bird flu outbreak in the Central Valley.

A significant portion of the discussion revolves around new legislation regarding school libraries, specifically a law that prohibits libraries from banning certain books. Nathan expresses concern over the centralization of authority, arguing that decisions about educational materials should rest with parents rather than the state government. He emphasizes the importance of family as the core unit of society and advocates for parental rights in education, particularly in the context of homeschooling.

Additionally, Nathan references an article discussing the benefits of alternative education, such as homeschooling, which allows for greater flexibility and opportunities for students. He concludes by encouraging listeners to appreciate and protect their educational freedoms, especially during the holiday season.

Episode 77: The Fight Continues Oct 31, 2024
    Show notes

Today's episode centers on the ongoing challenges and historical context surrounding homeschooling freedoms, particularly in California. Nathan highlights past legislative attempts to restrict homeschooling. This includes proposals to ban homeschooling outright in the 1980s and to impose strict regulations in the 1990s, such as mandatory background checks and curriculum standards. These legislative efforts often intersect with broader issues of parental rights, religious freedom, and societal norms, particularly regarding the teaching of creationism versus evolution. Nathan emphasizes the importance of community engagement and collaboration among homeschooling families and organizations to protect these freedoms. Despite significant victories in the past, such as the Institute for Creation Research case, the battle for homeschooling rights is ongoing, with new legislative proposals threatening to impose further restrictions. Nathan calls for vigilance, prayer, and active participation in local and state organizations to safeguard homeschooling rights for future generations, stressing that freedom requires continuous investment and advocacy.
