WGC-FedEx Round 1 Recap, Round 2 Preview: Brooks is back, Bryson vs the Ants 🐜 Jul 31, 2020

Show notes

Round one is in the books at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational! Brooks Koepka is your leader after posting a 62, matching his career-low on Tour. Is this further proof of the ‘Brooks only cares about big events/majors theory’ (1:20)? Rickie Fowler stood out on Thursday with an opening round 64. Considering his recent swing changes and tinkering, is this a sign of more improvements to come (8:53)? Bryson DeChambeau unsurprisingly found a way to entertain the golf world by requesting a free drop off a supposed animal burrowing hole. Watch the clip and chuckle as we breakdown his first round (15:32). After the break we wrap with players to eye for tomorrow’s second round which starts early due to inclement weather in the area (21:18).

3M Open Recap: Michael Thompson’s clutch Sunday at TPC Twin Cities (7/27) Jul 27, 2020

Show notes

Michael Thompson is your 3M Open champion after an impressive 4-under 67 performance on Sunday. His second career PGA Tour victory didn’t come without hard work and sweat. Just how life changing is a win like this for a guy like Michael Thompson (0:57)? Adam Long finished solo second to earn a spot in the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot. That’s pretty darn good considering he made the cut on the number, going 16-under over the weekend (14:12). Tony Finau finished T3 along with 8 other players. After starting the day within two shots of the lead, should we or Tony be disappointed in his Sunday performance (18:07)? We wrap by looking ahead to next week’s WGC- FedEx St. Jude Invitational to get some early leans for the Kyle Porter Memphis Invitational (43:30).

3M Open Round 1 Recap / Round 2 Preview: Dustin Johnson WDs (7/23) Jul 23, 2020

Show notes

The First Cut is back to recap the first round of the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. Greg starts the show with a little gloating as his sleeper, Richy Werenski, sits atop the leaderboard (1:29). Tony Finau had a great day after an awful weekend at the Memorial. Was his split with longtime caddie Greg Bodine and putting Boyd Summerhays on the bag a smart move (7:18)? Dustin Johnson stole the afternoon headlines when he withdrew with a back injury after a 7-over performance. He’s 23-over through his last 54 holes of PGA Tour competition. How concerned are we for Dustin as we head into the “Championship Stretch” (13:30)? We wrap by looking ahead to the second round of the 3M Open, who should you play and who should you fade (20:00)?

3M Open Preview - Sleepers, Storylines & Best Bets (7/21) Jul 21, 2020

Show notes

The 3M Open may have a weaker field than what we've been treated to since golf returned, but fret not First Cut fans as we still have a great preview podcast lined up. Rick Gehman and Kyle Porter tag team today's podcast looking at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. Brooks Koepka's knee will be under a microscope this week after he revealed last week that issues were still lingering there. Is this a time to fade the most dominant major player over the past three years (0:58)? We also look at another PGA Tour superstar that is coming off a poor performance. How much confidence do we have in Dustin Johnson after his abysmal 80-80 performance last week at the Memorial (10:59). Tommy Fleetwood is making his first start since the pandemic halted the Players mid-tournament in March. Can we expect any rust from the Englishman (16:22)? After the break our boys breakdown their betting cards. We'll go through matchups (25:49), expert picks including sleepers (40:14) and best bets (48:07) for the week.
