Sharing the Mic: How We Communicate Truth in Our Family Business | S2 E10 Nov 17, 2021

Show notes

Have you ever wondered how pastors develop their sermons?

And what happens if you have a father and son team - or a senior and junior leader - who often share the same platform? How do they make it all work without sending mixed messages?

Those two questions are being answered this week by Steve Alessi and his son, Chris Alessi, who together work in their family business of ministry at Metro Life Church in Miami, FL.
In this episode, they discuss the similarities and differences in how they do their specific job of communicating with the church, and share the rarely revealed process of developing messages and sermons.

You’ll discover how two people with very different approaches can achieve the same goals, and how you can utilize your strengths in your family or business environment, even if someone else in your organization has similar responsibilities and functions.

What's in a Name? Why Legacy Matters in Our Family Business | S2 E8 Nov 03, 2021

Show notes

What does your name say about you?
Do you have a lasting legacy attached to your family name?
And if not, can you start building a legacy that future generations will be proud to carry?

The Alessi family name would not be what it is today without Rev. John Alessi, Steve Alessi’s father, who pastored in Miami for over 60 years and was instrumental in launching Steve and Mary into their calling of ministry.
Pastor John exemplified service to his church, his family and his community, and was married for over 60 years to his wonderful wife, Ann Alessi. Rev. John Alessi was called home to his eternal reward in October 2020, but his legacy lives on on in two generations of Alessis that continue to operate in the family business of ministry.

Exactly one year following his passing, Miami-Dade County honored Pastor John’s work by naming the street in front of his church Rev. John Alessi Street.

In this episode, Steve and Mary Alessi reflect on the blessing of a good name, and explore how Pastor John’s life helped to cement the Alessi name as one being full of legacy and purpose.
They openly talk about how they embraced the responsibility to honor their name, and explain how you can do the same no matter what your past experiences have been - so that your name can be remembered for all the right reasons.

Why Being Woke Doesn't Work in Our Family Business | S2 E6 Oct 20, 2021

Show notes

In the past few years, there has been ever increasing pressure from certain voices in our culture advocating 'wokeness' as a way to see the world.
But just what is being woke, and is this a healthy mindset for your family or business to accept?

Steve Alessi continues our conversation from Season 2, Episode 5 with Allen C. Paul, a member of our podcast team, to better define what our families' response to “wokeness” should be, and how we should guide our families through these cultural shifts.
This conversation will give you a sound and biblical perspective on how to talk with your family about the cultural issues of our day, so that you never compromise the values that will help your family to thrive.

Why We Chose Homeschooling (and Why You Should Consider It) | S2 E4 Oct 06, 2021

Show notes

Every parent wants the best education for their children, but these days, it’s very difficult to decide where that education should take place. The Alessis faced the same decision, and they eventually settled on a solution - homeschooling.

Steve and Mary Alessi made the switch to homeschooling as they raised their four children and now they are sharing their insights and advice to parents who are considering making the move to homeschooling.
In this episode you’ll learn how to find the time, resources and community support to make this transition even if you are working full-time, or worried about the quality of your child's education.
You’ll see that homeschooling is more than a fringe community or a fad, but instead a rich and beautiful way to lead and guide your children into becoming responsible, well-educated and confident adults.
