Episode: 081 "The mask we live in" Apr 11, 2019
    Show notes

"This journey of trying to figure out what it means to be a man in a home where your the man of the house. I'm the oldest male, and all of these responsibilities are put on my back, to help raise my sisters and brothers. At seven years old my uncle said "your the man of the house" and I'm like "I don't want that job, can I go back to my big-wheel?"

This week's guest is Ashanti Branch. We became aware of Ashanti's powerful heart in the film The Mask You Live In. He was born and raised by a single mother in Oakland, California. After finding success as a civil engineer, he found a deeper calling as a teacher. He found the "fire" that was missing in his life and hoped to ignite a similar enthusiasm in his young students. He went on to create the Ever Forward Club, a mentoring initiative aimed to help underserved and at-risk young men of colour.

    In this episode:

    • The power of a good teacher
    • Opening up to move forward
    • Giving young men space to recognize their human emotions
    • The damage done by archaic school design
    • Knowing your own mask
    • Why do we wait to teach fundamental human skills until shit hits the fan

    Episode 080: Cherie Healey Apr 05, 2019
    Show notes

Imagining a future where women and men are able to slow down and reunite in mutual trust, love, and respect--this episode shares that underneath all of the cultural noise, men and women are missing each other.

What if men and women stood arm in arm, far beyond the scope of being allies, to turn together toward the biggest problems at work, at home, and culture-wide?

Cherie works with leaders in tech and entertainment to help them create workplaces that solve the world's biggest problems. She does it by elevating their skills in mind and heart so they can become the leaders of the Imagination Age, tap limitless creativity and innovation and inspire a new way to work. She's worked with orgs such as Google, X, Genentech, Apple, Nike, and many more.

Cherie and Dan / Evryman are collaborating on events and trainings together, bringing wisdom from men and women together for the betterment of all.

    Episode 073: Herb Stevenson Jan 30, 2019

This week's guest Herb Stevenson is an author, management consultant and executive coach with over twenty years of experience. Herb runs a twice monthly men's circle, plus a year long Natural Passages program. "Much of who men are is often closed-off at an early age. Episode 072: Aaron Blaine Jan 23, 2019
    Show notes

A quote from Terry Real: "To be a great marani (warrior), when the moment calls for fierceness, nobody fucks with you. And when the moment calls for tenderness, you are not tender. You are very, very tender. And a great marani knows which is which."

This podcast is a response to the recent Gillette ad that has caused a very strong backlash and stirred immense cultural conversation about what it means to be a man, the moral role of brands, and clearly pointed to a seemingly fundamental societal division.

Our perspective at Evryman is that the black and white approach to this topic is too easy and that there is a straightforward but challenging middle road. Instead of prescribing that men are either aggressive and dominant or soft and compassionate, we believe the honest reality is that both and all are true and necessary. There are times that life calls forth different skillsets and virtues, and we believe we should all have access to the whole spectrum of possibility as a man.
