Dr Ramani Durvasula | Top tips for spotting a narcissist. Oct 09, 2021
    Show notes

‘Pushing back on narcissism is a human rights issue’.

Dr Ramani Durvasula is a clinical psychologist, best-selling author and professor of psychology who shares her expertise on narcissism and narcissistic personality disorder on the latest episode of the podcast.

The term ‘narcissist’ is bandied around a lot but it’s an overused and misunderstood word, which is why I asked Dr Ramani to join me on the show. During our conversation she helps unpick and unpack its complexities, what it is, what it isn’t and how to navigate the world knowing that being a victim of narcissism can cause you real harm.

If you think you understand what a narcissist is and how to spot one then think again…

    In this episode, @drramani shares:

    • The difference between narcissism and narcissistic personality disorder.
    • Why the label ‘narcissist’ is too broad.
    • Whether narcissism is innate or learned.
    • The emotional damage a narcissist can cause and why the fallout can be so devastating for the victim.
    • The types of people who are most likely to get caught in a narcissist’s trap.
    • Why narcissism is rewarded in today’s society and why it’s turning narcissism into an epidemic.
    • Whether a narcissist ever gets their just deserts.
    • Whether you should ever tell an narcissistic off, and much more…

Dr Ramani’s books are available now at all good book stores:

Don’t You Know Who I Am? How to stay sane in an era of narcissism, entitlement and incivility.

Should I Stay or Should I Go? Surviving a Relationship with a Narcissist.

Dr Nicole LePera | How To Do The Work Oct 02, 2021
    Show notes

Dr Nicole LePera is a psychologist who joins me on the podcast to talk about how we can stop feeling ‘stuck’ in our lives.

I read her book How to Do the Work earlier this year and was floored by how helpful it was and have been sharing it far and wide ever since. The premise is that by recognising our patterns, which may be self-sabotaging, we can heal from our past and make the progress we want to make in our lives.

    During our conversation, @the.holistic.psychologist and I discuss;

    • Why it’s okay and actually very common to feel ‘stuck’.
    • How we can be sabotaging ourselves without even realising it.
    • Why facing up to the role you play in your own life can be confronting.
    • Why living on autopilot pulls you away from the present.
    • The importance of our basic needs to be seen, heard and to be able to express ourselves.
    • We also dig into the empath and narcissist dynamic and why we can be drawn to people, time and again, who are wrong for us.
    • How do know and set your boundaries and so much more…

We cover a lot of ground in this episode so I’d love to hear your thoughts or any topics from our conversation that you’ll like me to expand on in future episodes.

Nicole’s book How To Do The Work is available now from all good book stores and her podcast, Selfhealers Soundboard is available whoever it is you listen to your podcasts.

Victoria Arlen | How to Unlock Your Potential Sep 25, 2021
    Show notes

Victoria Arlen is a sportscaster and gold medallist who spent four years, aged 11-15, in a vegetative state. She was locked-in; aware of everything that was happening around her but unable to communicate, even blink, to let her family and doctors know she was still there.

She was written off with no expectation of recovery until one day, she blinked. That blink started Victoria’s incredible journey back to life. On that journey she learned to walk again, swam competitively and won gold at the 2012 Paralympics in London, competed on Dancing with the Stars in the US and is now a sportscaster for ESPN.

In this conversation, Victoria shares her experiences with me, the trauma of being locked-in, the resilience to get back to full strength and what it’s like to be defined by the worst thing that’s happened to you.
