Show notes

After waiting over a year, I'm glad to say we finally got Jeff on the podcast! We actually recorded this during the summer so that may give you better context while listening to our conversation. There is just so much information in Jeff Sturgis' head that we will probably have to do several interviews with him before we've even come close to repeating tips or tactics. Make sure and check out all that Jeff has to offer at www.whitetailhabitatsolutions.com.

Don't miss a word and you may want to listen twice because there is a ton of expert advice to soak up in this one!

E90: Hunt It All This Fall (feat. Anthony Licata, Editor-in-Chief of Outdoor Life on Public Land Access and Opportunity, What To Hunt Where This Fall, and Making The Most of Your Hunting Season) Oct 18, 2018

As many parts of the country dive head first into fall hunting season, the urge has never been greater for most of us to get into the woods in some way. Honestly, sometimes we can be a little guilty of being near sighted. Whitetail rule the fall, and for good reason! However, there are many opportunities across the country to get out and live an "Outdoor Life."

Today on the show we got the chance to chat it up with Anthony Licata, Editor-in-Chief of Outdoor Life, about all kinds of fall hunting opportunities. (Most, if not all, of which can be participated in on PUBLIC LAND!) From the most obscure hunt youve ever heard of to the very heart of what we know of as traditional hunting, Anthony has done it all and is more thsn willing to share his knowledge. He and his team actually wrote a really cool article about just that in the fall issue of Outdoor Life. (We will link to it and others below.)

E89: An Important Message To All Hunters (feat Brian Murphy CEO of the Quality Deer Management Association on Transporting Trophies, Hunting In CWD Areas, and Our Responsibility as Hunters) Oct 16, 2018

Show notes

Brian Murphy might be the real "most interesting man in the world." He has been more places working with deer than many of us will ever even visit. We'd love to talk to him more about the fun stuff sometime, but right now we have a pressing issue.

CWD is spreading. Hunters are partially to blame. What part can we play in stopping this? Thats what we called up Brian to inquire. He is a wise fellow with a very objective (and positive) outlook on CWD and the future of deer hunting. Fact is: If we as hunters start taking a few extra precautions, the future is bright!

Drawing your bow can be one of the most important, yet neglected aspects of the shot. What is the the archery equivalent of a MLB pitchers windup is sometimes looked at as nothing more than a means to an end for most hunters. This is a special and intense podcast. We get a little fired up about a few sub-topics and the ambience that a rainy front porch makes it even better.

E87: Bucktoberfest (feat. MARK DRURY on Increasing Your Odds in October, What Days To Hunt, Haters, and Some Killer Whitetail Knowledge) Oct 04, 2018

Show notes

There are a few things that remain consistent in the whitetail woods; Hunting cold fronts, deer eat acorns, and Mark Drury finging and killing big deer.

The man has been shooting buck bucks on film since we can remeber. Mark has become the tactician of killing monster deer early and often. He was kind enought to spend some time on the phone with us while we questioned him all about October bucks. There is a lot to learn from Mark and we are so glad that we have this convo recorded so that we can make his helpful knowledge public.

There is a trend forming, and we are with that! Erik Barber makes his second apperance on a Big Buck Breakdown, and frankly, I'd bet that there is more to come. This dude is a straight killa when it comes to finding and getting on whitetail bucks fast. It took him all of 2 days of the season to have a big buck down! Listen for the whole story. E86: Trials and Triumphs of Hunting as a Family (The Story of K.C.'s Bull, Elk Hunting With Your Parents, Deer Season Opening Day Strategies) Sep 27, 2018

Show notes

Arrows have been released. The sweet taste of success has already been sampled. We are hungry for more!

As I am typing this description there bucks are nudging does in the neighborhood, making scrapes on persimmon trees, and the breeze is a brisk north.

In this episode we discuss the conclusion of K.C.'s Colorado DIY OTC Elk hunt with his family. Their hunt came down to the wire! Also, as we recorded, we were driving around truck scouting a public property here in Texas trying to formulate a plan for the season opener. We got a huge boost in confidence when we spotted a true Public Land toad at last light! Right away the OnX came out and we started scheming away. We've plotted our attack. Now we wait to put the pieces in motion for opening day!

Look for the PLC from that Texas trip coming soon!
