#132: KSHMR on Staying Motivated, Building a Successful Brand, and Being an Authentic Artist Apr 30, 2020
    Show notes

Show Notes: edmprod.com/132 Download & Stream 'Bruk It Down': http://bit.ly/BrukItDown-DL-Stream Sign up for Dharma Studio: https://www.dharmaworldwide.com/ This week, KSHMR sat down to chat on the EDMProdcast. If you’ve been producing dance music for more than 30 seconds, you’re surely familiar with him, whether it’s from his classic dance tracks like Secrets or My Best Life, his chart topping sample packs, his production tutorials, and most recently his very own plugin KSHMR Essentials. We start off with KSHMR’s background, looking at how he built his production and songwriting skills by himself early on. We dive into how he fell into producing for rappers and singers, and how this led to him creating The Cataracts project, widely known for their hit single ‘Like A G6’. We spend a while discussing KSHMR’s transition into EDM, and how he took everything he learned in the pop world and put it into his ideal artist project. KSHMR explains the keys to his early success with this project, and what separated him from other producers that were making the switch to EDM. On the production side, we discuss how to balance the technical and emotional aspects of production. KSHMR mentions how producing EDM has hurt his ability to write music on an emotional level, because he, like so many producers, is overly concerned with the technical aspects of production. We talk about how to deal with this issue, focusing on how he crafts emotive and expressive tracks within the dance music sphere. Later on, we talk about his new education platform Dharma Studio, as well as his brand new plugin KSHMR Essentials. We discuss why he loves teaching music production, and the lesson he’s learned helping out thousands of producers. KSHMR also lists off his favorite uncommon 3rd party plugins, a few of which you've likely never heard of but will blow you away. #124: Expert Advice from Industry Veterans With the Disco Fries Mar 06, 2020
    Show notes

Show Notes: edmprod.com/124 Mixing for Producers: edmprod.com/mixing This week, the Disco Fries sat down to chat on the EDMProdcast. The Disco Fries have been a staple in the dance music scene for over a decade, with releases on all the big electronic labels, collabs with artists like Tiesto, and dozens of high profile remixes for artists like Usher, Katy Perry, and Selena Gomez to name a few. Given how long they’ve been around, they have a ton of experience and advice to share with producers of all levels. We start with their background in music, discussing how they met at the Berklee School of Music and why they decided to form a duo. We talk about how they dealt with the fear that most music school students go through, which is “how am I going to make a living once school is over”, and how they quickly transitioned into actually making a living off the Disco Fries project. Outside of releasing music and touring under the Disco Fries brand, they generate revenue off of music in a number of ways, including writing for film and tv, running a record label, running a publishing company, mixing and mastering for other artists, and a whole lot more. If you’re keen to find ways to make a living off of music that doesn’t include streaming or shows, you’ll take away a ton from this episode. We also talk about the balance between making music for fun versus making music for a career, and how to avoid developing a resentful relationship with music. They offer their best advice for younger producers trying to break into the industry, as well as producers in their late 20s or 30s that worry they’ll never make a career in music. On the production side, we talk about their collaborative workflow, which for the past few years has been primarily remote. They currently live in different cities, so if you’ve ever struggled to work with another artist remotely or remote collaboration is something you’d like to get into, there’s a lot to learn from the way they’ve refined their collaborative approach. They also talk about their mixdown tutorials in Mixing for Producers, EDMProd’s flagship mixing course.
