    Asking Jesus - Week Three of Lent Mar 25, 2022

    Synopsis: For week three of Lent, we move into the story about Zacchaeus and how he climbed a tree to see Jesus. Jesus looked up, saw Zacchaeus, and ate with him. A man was known for taking more than what he needed to as a tax collector. What was Jesus to do with him? We see Zacchaeus looking for hope, or a change in pace if you will. Tune into these short discussions based on a Lent reading guide called “Asking Jesus” by Rev. Dr. Gerrit Dawson.
    Meet the Guest: The Rev. Dr. Gerrit Dawson became the senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church in 2004. He is married to Rhonda, and they have four children. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Dawson was the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Lenoir, North Carolina for 13 years before coming to Baton Rouge. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2002 from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte. Dawson carries on an active writing ministry, focusing on Christian spiritual growth and the person and work of Christ.

    His most recent book is "Raising Adam: Why Jesus Descended into Hell."

    Dawson’s vision for the church centers on Jeremiah 29: 7: “Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you.”

    Limited Atonement - aka Definite Redemption Mar 23, 2022

    Synopsis: Pastor Bill dives into the doctrine of limited atonement. He preaches about the work Jesus Christ did on the cross because the son and the father love us dearly. Limited Atonement is one of the doctrines that some don’t understand or do not like. The Bible is clear on what limited atonement means to the Christian. Check out these verses for context.     The Word Proclaimed: The Incomprehensibility of God Feb 18, 2022

    Synopsis: We tend to want to control every aspect of our lives, and we tend to "remove" God from His post, so to speak. We need not forget that God's will for our lives will never fail. Yes, we are like God, yet He is not like us, and he does not change. As incomprehensive as God is, we should still study who He is.     Synopsis: There are times that we are not ourselves. However, we see God as perfect and unchanging. God's common grace to the order of the world permeates the universe. We as humans cannot judge God based on the world's failures, but we can see His grace at work in sustaining us through the failures of the world. (This is part of the Doctrines of the Church Series.)     Synopsis: Rev. Bill Crawford of First Presbyterian Church of Thibodaux, Louisiana delivers the first sermon of his series on the theology of God. Rev. Crawford starts the series on the word Amen. As found in the New Testament, the word Amen is found 103 times. The word is used in the Hebrew and Greek languages. Rev. Crawford even gives and explanation on why words were repeated to show meaning as the the phrase, "truly, truly"
