    The Dwight and Patty Show

We are Dwight and Patty, as you might have guessed, two people in a. band called, The Wind and The Wave. We used to broadcast live internet “shows” while on tour, usually from a terrible hotel room on a day off. That show was called ‘The Dwight and Patty Show.’ Those odd little moments, almost more than any other, continue to be one of our most requested pieces of content, so we decided to jump into the podcast ocean to see if we could swim. This podcast is what happens when two bandmates talk about their experiences as artists and humans. For those who enjoy what we do, are able and want to support the show, you can do so at patreon.com/thewindandthewave.

    It's Not Y'all, It's Dwight Jul 07, 2020

*** TICKETS FOR AUGUST 1 LIVESTREAM CONCERT ***

Dwight will be taking a break from the podcast because he’s over hearing himself talk at the moment, and he’d like to focus on The Wind and The Wave’s new group of songs. Patty recorded vocals on the 7 rough demos to share with Patreon supporters very soon!

New tunes with Kelly Jones may be trickling out around December/January. Assuming it would be safe by Summer 2021, we’d love to do some festivals here and overseas with this new project.

What’s with country music performers doing real shows right now? That doesn’t seem safe. The drive-in show format seems cool, but packed venues where crowds of people aren’t wearing masks is irresponsible, and selfish. We all want to do shows, and we’re all here for our fans. It’s just too early for shows. In Texas, virus cases are rising like crazy.

Leave a review wherever you listen to this podcast. If you’e got specific questions or thoughts about the Human Beings Let You Down album or any of those songs, send an email to thedwightandpattyshow@gmail.com for the next track-by-track commentary. Consider becoming a supporter on Patreon for juicy treats like unreleased demos, early access to final versions of new songs, discount codes to our online merchandise store and more! Golden Child Jun 16, 2020

Redlining is fascinating and terrible. Oprah is the exception to the rule. Responding to peaceful protests against police brutality with police brutality is moronic. Dwight’s mom sent him the Peace Prayer of Saint Francis. Patty has been doing video calls with the vinyl bundle purchasers. Music collaborations and how that works. Bob Schneider said some really nice things about Patty. Aw! Check out Lonnie’s band South Austin Moonlighters and their new Patreon page for some upcoming videos! What was the lyrical inspiration for “With Your Two Hands?" You have to be WILLNG to change your mind. Parenting and leading by example. Guilty pleasures.

Our Email Inbox Is Empty!!! May 19, 2020

Patty is having internet troubles. Future Islands' performance on David Letterman in 2014 is epic. It’s a good reminder how important music is to all of us, and how powerful it can be. Camm Wess, a contestant on The Voice, sang a cover of Kacey Musgraves’ song “Rainbow,” and it brought Patty to tears. Thank you to Janine and Scott in Baltimore for their new patronage on Patreon! Dwight compliments Patty’s other podcast, The Feelings Club. A new demo from Dwight is inspiring Patty. Touring gives Dwight clarity of purpose, but Dwight has enjoyed spending a significant amount of time at home with his family during lockdown. So much of success is not giving up. Take Portugal The Man, for example. They had a decent mid level career in music for several years before stumbling into one of the biggest songs of the last 20 years. Patty recommends the National Geographic show, ‘One Strange Rock.’ We’re lucky an asteroid hasn’t blown us up. Are aliens big bad motherfuckers, or are they slugs? Patty received an edible arrangement from Dwight and his wife for her birthday. Tattoos! Does Patty have any tricks to recover from mistakes during a live performance? What does she do if she feels like a particular song is going to hit her like a ton of bricks?

The next live stream is THIS Saturday, May 23rd. Dwight and Patty will be performing The Wind + The Wave's entire first record ‘From The Wreckage’ from top to bottom, acoustically at 3pm and 7pm CDT. Purchase tickets here!

Never Get On The Pinot Penis May 12, 2020

Patty got injured at the park and has an update on her rent house. Dwight’s kids are awesome. Check out Jackson Baker’s new music video! Feelings about the world opening back up here in Texas. The band Dwight is working with right now all tested negative for Covid. Patty is moving from the Chard Train to the Blanc Bus. Beep Beep! Patty shows off the Covers II vinyl on camera. What did they get their moms for Mother’s Day?

If you’re a creative of any kind, and want to be a guest on the show, email us! The next live stream is Saturday, May 23rd where Dwight and Patty will play their entire first record ‘From The Wreckage’ from top to bottom. There will be two showtimes to try to accommodate royals friends near and far. 3pm and 7pm CDT. Purchase tickets here!

Patty Talks Pesto, Thongs & SIMS May 05, 2020

The podcast is going back to one episode a week. Dwight is starting a record. Patty celebrated her 4th wedding anniversary with her husband. There’s a brief debate about pesto. Savage Lovecast is one of Patty’s favorite podcasts. She’s sporting her Fuck First mug today and explains what that means. Dwight shares an IG post from therapist @alexicrockley that reminds Patty of Esther Perel’s thoughts about anxiety and creativity. Patty wore a thong bikini for the first time. The UK merch store was delayed because the company can’t find a box of shirts, (one of the best new designs), but we’ll share that link on socials anyway.

The Wind and The Wave is doing a virtual performance to benefit the SIMS Foundation this Friday, May 8 at 5pm CST. 100% of the proceeds will go towards helping ensure access to mental health and substance use recovery services for the Central Texas music community. Patty has been a client since 2015. Patty is very excited by the opportunity to join their board. To donate at any time, head to Simsfoundation.org.

The next live stream is Saturday, May 23rd where Dwight and Patty will play their entire first record ‘From The Wreckage’ from top to bottom. Dwight’s son Evan is cartooning the livestream image. We have only one shirt left of his design, and that all be given away on May 23rd to a lucky patron.

Dwight and Patty agree to do a track-by-track commentary for their records ‘Happiness Is Not A Place’ and ‘Human Beings Let You Down’ on the podcast. The Wind and The Wave’s performance for The Quay Sessions in Scotland is now available on video through the BBC iPlayer.

Dying beards, and having mixed feelings about people you love. The story of meeting Kelly Jones. Pressure in social media?

Dwight Gets Mushy Apr 30, 2020

Patty’s new favorite thing is the hammock in her backyard. Dwight’s dad is nearing the end of his life. He shares about his experience taking family photos at the University of Houston Football field last weekend. Mr. Baker Senior calls for track coach, Leroy Burrell. They’ve been friends for a long time. He happened to be right around the corner and came over immediately. Dwight listens in on the interaction between them and totally loses it. The way you feel about your parents. Seeing a person through your own lense. The black cloud over Dwight. Patty’s mom visited last week. Dwight tries to be the same person to everyone in his life. The Feelings Club Podcast Episode 1 comes out tomorrow! The new songs are sounding like they’re going to be part of a guitar driven album for The Wind and The Wave. Patty’s new neighbor is a drummer and plays with Rufas Wainwright and Jade Bird. Congrats to Patty on her recent sync with Erin McCarley and Konrad Snyder! Their song “Fight To Feel Alive” appeared on ABC’s show, Station 19.

SAVE THE DATE - Saturday, May 23rd is The Wind and The Wave's next live stream concert! (Ticket link coming soon.)

Send More Dwight Memes Apr 28, 2020

Dwight and Patty’s thoughts on their very first very successful live stream concert. The next one is scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd. The Wind and The Wave will play the entirety of their first record ‘From The Wreckage’ start to finish and in order! They might perform twice in one day to accommodate everyone’s schedules a bit more. The Dwight memes are great. Please send more! Thank you to all the new patrons this week: Rosanna, Molly, Grace, Kathy and Katherine - You are the best! A touching email from a dad who saw The Wind and The Wave at the Firefly Festival with his daughter. Memories of Firefly ensue. Congrats to Naomi (the mermaid) for graduating from film school! Check out Nick Spreigl’s vlog on YouTube - It’s a pretty interesting watch! Bucket-list items? An email from Johnny Jones’ inquiring about Patty’s vocal upkeep, orchestral instruments and Dwight as a lead vocalist. SAVE THE DATE! The next live stream concert will take place on Saturday, May 23.

Dark And Stormy (David Butler) Apr 23, 2020

Thanks to new patrons Amanda and Tes! Dwight finally tried Bird Bird Biscuit in Austin. Thank God for Johnny. Bachelorette Edition game of Guess Who? David's look is Charlie Manson Chic. You can learn anything on YouTube. What is Dwight like as a boss? David likes the "bad days" in the studio because they usually lead to good stuff when writing. How did Dwight end up writing with Missio? David's thoughts on the Missio documentary. He's so good at being present in the studio. Perhaps his practice with yoga and meditation have helped, the way they have with anxious mental loops. David has been very susceptible to inflammation and back pain ever since he broke his neck in 2003. Unlike his bandmate, David does not have an exceptional relationship with therapy. Dwight's experience with EMDR. Kevin Abstract, and deepening relationships though songwriting. Dwight's challenge with Patty is getting her to write about joy. David says the new Missio record is diverse in its instrumentation, and he's proud of the songs' messages. Patty says it's going to hit people in the feels. She bawled when she heard it.

The Wind and The Wave LIVE STREAM CONCERT is THIS SATURDAY, April 25 at 3pm CST. This is a way for Dwight and Patty to make some money while they can't tour. PURCHASE A TICKET! Consider becoming a Patreon supporter, send an email to thedwightandpattyshow@gmail.com, leave us a review and follow the show on Instagram.

I Don't Have To Fix Myself (Matt Brue) Apr 21, 2020

Dwight and Patty are joined by Matt from Missio. Marriage. Anxiety. Matt's foundation in, and struggle with questioning a longstanding religious faith. Zoom poses some technical issues. Touring might not happen again until 2021. Matt misses going to the barber. Dwight and Patty were a little uncomfortable talking about Matt's sobriety in the previous episode with Jeff Ray. Therapy is a game-changer. The making of the new Missio record, and how it’s different sonically and lyrically. Matt believes that people grow from honesty. Cherry-picking the Bible, Heaven, Hell and religious trauma.

Love Me Whole (Jeff Ray) Apr 16, 2020

Dwight trashed a song, and found his way on another. He has to create things that make him feel good right now. Patty was feeling down about her performance on The Feelings Club Podcast Episode 1. Dwight scores it a B minus, and offers some advice.

They are then joined by writer/director/editor, Jeff Ray. Jeff's early work with The Wind and The Wave was a launching point for his career. Dwight is a master manipulator, AKA a lovable asshole. Reminiscing about the making of The Marfa Takes. How the concept for the Grand Canyon music video went from Braveheart to a two person pillow fight. Jeff met his girlfriend on the set of that music video! (Side bar: Jeff's girlfriend is actress Kelsey Pribilski, host of Gawkward Podcast.) Missio's documentary 'Love Me Whole'. Alcoholism, sobriety, and YouTube comments. Good interviews. Dwight's relationship with Matt and David. Working within the confines of the major label system and maintaining authenticity as an artist. Dwight's monologue provides Jeff with a healthy perspective about his own career and Patty's takeaway from the film was very positive. Jeff started therapy six months ago. (Yay!) He has a new project and wants to collaborate with The Wind and The Wave on it. (Yay!) The Rescue Me EP, and the writing process. Jeff thinks Patty is one of the best lyricists EVER!!! So much mutual respect here, seriously.

Moved By A YouTube Comment Apr 14, 2020

Dwight prefers Patty with long hair, but she makes a good Narc! Dwight gets yelled at. The outside world is matching how Patty feels on the inside all the time. Dwight is in a bad mood. Kids need to hang out with their friends. Dwight’s wife is soaking up the sun and doing all the yard work to manage stress. Corona can suck a dick. Relationships are about compromise. Is it the cludio or the stoset…or the stuset? The Wind and The Wave is FOUR songs in on the new record. Patty hid the Easter eggs for the first time. The show, Ozark is dark, but Patty loves it. The ‘Feel Good Indie Rock’ Spotify playlist is hitting Dwight in all the right spots. Bands we’ve never heard of like Sure Sure and Fruit Bats. A remix of Manchester Orchestra’s “The Gold.” It’s also got the awesome Brittany Howard, some French Cassettes, Winnetka Bowling League, this rad chic named Caroline Rose, Mount Joy, Ages and Ages, Goth Babe… Dwight was going down a 90s music rabbit hold, when a Youtube comment on an Everclear music video moved him. Reading it again made him teary eyed. Patty’s neck and shoulder has been hurting. Mobility exercises and CBD products have been helping, but she's looking forward to the next massage. Patty is checking in with her doctor virtually this week. She’s NOT pregnant, but her sister is. We have a new Patron! The Wind and The Wave is thinking about doing a Feelings Club virtual show from the “cludio” in a couple weeks. Patty still hasn’t watched Missio’s documentary ‘Love Me Whole.’ It’s more fun to play for giant crowds. Dwight would not feel successful if he could not support his family doing the things he loves. Patty ends with a quote from Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Big Magic.

    Brain Farts Apr 09, 2020

Is Dwight making up for something with the size of his microphone? Covid news and updates. Pandas finally mate after 10 years when a Chinese zoo shuts down during the pandemic. Patty’s amazing tenants might break their lease. (They talk way too long about her rent house.) Sarah Silverman rallies on her patio with other New Yorkers for healthcare workers on their way to work. Patty’s mom wants to come visit her, but we’re unsure if her household is quarantining in the same way. Sirens are like mermaids, but an elite fighting force that protects Zeus. Patty wants to cover more of their musician friends’ songs, like Danny Malone, Bob Schneider, Billy Harvey and others. Dwight is BLESSED with his head of hair, but is displeased with the amount of grey, however he is looking fit. Dwight wants to create a voicemail box for the podcast, like Patty has created for The Feelings Club podcast. Mark Manson’s book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is on Patty’s list of books to read.

And That, My Lady, Is The Key Apr 07, 2020

Please visit thefeelings.club for more information about Patty’s new podcast, The Feelings Club. Let her know what you’re curious about, and if there are any topics related to mental health you’d like to hear discussed. Patty was considering trying to get pregnant this year, but that is now on hold until further notice. The new ‘Wind and Wave’ songs are coming along really well. (It’s impressive what Dwight can create in a closet.) Dwight misses sports and public art. The hardest part of quarantine for Patty is not knowing how long this way of life will last. Anxiety has not been an issue though, which is surprising. Not watching ANY news is helpful. How are all the single people without pets doing right now? BEN KWELLER is coming on as a guest V soon! Sha Sha is one of Patty's favorite records. Three new patrons this week! Listener emails. Patty watched Toy Story 4. The dolls were a little creepy, but when Woody chooses love for himself at the end - what a beautiful moment!

    Dwight Up Apr 02, 2020

Patty and the hubs watched Toy Story 3. Thank God Tom Hanks is alive and well. Day 15 of quarantine, and Patty is going to finally hang out with Sally and her family, who have also been in quarantine just as long. We can’t imagine how hard this must be for parents of small children. Dwight’s wife is a hairstylist and is currently out of work like many others. Want to support her? Order something from her website wandersalon.com! To manage stress levels during this time, Dwight recommends quit watching the news everyday, and avoid clickbait headlines. The first song demo for the new record is progressing, an idea that originated from Patty's brain. Discussion of what exclusive content can be released to the Patreon supporters. The O2 Arena, it's so big. UK ONLINE STORE COMING SOON! Back to emails and Johnny’s up first. Antidepressants, the stigma. When you're feeling like a Patty, "Dwight up." Patron, Eric Nagle is the sweetest man ever. Watch Missio’s Love Me Whole documentary by Jeff Ray.

The Right Amount of Fucks Mar 31, 2020

Welcome to Season Two of The Dwight and Patty Show. We're now on video! You will be able to catch these episodes on YouTube, IGTV and Facebook now. Dwight wants this to be a Covid-free zone, for the most part. We have new patrons since we took a break in January. Thank you so much to everyone willing to support our creative efforts, especially during this time. One of our new patrons, Sara Barnard is an author. Her book 'Fierce Fragile Hearts' mentions Happiness Is Not A Place in Chapter 5! Definitely go check out her works. Patty has signed a couple copies of this book, and will choose two lucky patrons to gift them to, raffle style!

Now let's reminisce about the UK tour, and how we had to come home early due to the outbreak that shall not be named. What are some of Dwight and Patty's favorite memories? Finishing final mixes on the record they made with Kelly Jones. Our performance for BBC Scotland's The Quay Sessions with Roddy Hart. The Wind and The Wave is five songs in writing for their new record! Patty gives the right amount of fucks about what Dwight thinks now, instead of giving too many fucks.

Patty has a new podcast starting soon. If you like feelings, you're gonna like it. It's called The Feelings Club (yup), hosted by Patty Lynn and Sally Rumsey, MS LPC. We'll have Sally on very soon to talk more about what's to come and you can can expect from this new adventure.

Thank you for joining us. We hope this show will give you some normalcy during this strange time. To support Dwight and Patty, sign up to be a supporter on Patreon, or buy a merchandise item at thewindandthewave.com. Use code STAYHOME at checkout for 10% off through April 15. Follow us on IG @thedwightandpattyshow. Please leave us a review wherever you listen to podcasts, and send us an email to thedwightandpattyshow@gmail.com. We're excited to hear from you!

    Soul Shine Jan 07, 2020

This is the end of Season One of the podcast.

Patty has feelings about that. This year has been full of growth. Dwight has no idea what the next record will sound like. Season One of The Wind and The Wave is also over. It’s time to explore.

Daniel Chee wrote us a very inspiring email. We’ve posted his message and photos on the Patreon. A lot of Patty’s trauma is related to religion and church, but she’s no longer angry. Patty’s mother in law writes in to the podcast! (She’s the best!) Willie Clark’s email brings Patty to tears. Dwight’s conversation with a Navy Seal in a hot tub 15 years ago reset his view of being a musician. Art is important therapeutic work, both for the artist and the consumer. Thank you to patrons new and old, past and present for all your support. This week Dwight recommends Santana’s album Abraxas, and Patty recommends another podcast, Ologies with Alie Ward. Fun Fact: Patty’s favorite song since she was four years old is “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys. We respond to our final email from Sophie about healing. Patty encourages you to feel your feelings, write them down and share them with others. You are not alone.

Thank you all for joining us on this journey. We look forward to Season Two. The Wind and The Wave will be hitting the road with The Feelings Club very soon. For tour dates, tickets, and to subscribe to the mailing list, visit http://www.thewindandthewave.com.

Patty Calls in from New Mexico and Chaos Ensues Dec 31, 2019

For tour dates, tickets, and to subscribe to the mailing list, visit thewindandthewave.com. Fuck ya!

Sargent Steven Episode Dec 24, 2019

Patty is still remote. We’ll spend the entire episode reading and responding to the Sargent’s email. Updates on Pat Pat Greeting Cards, and the love language of our significant others. Patty is making a shift and feels more forgiveness and compassion for herself and others. Do artists’ work get better with age, or worse? Patty’s own lyrics are speaking to her right now. Is there an external source guiding artistry, or is it the artist’s subconscious? Is it common for Patty to have to explain her lyrics to close friends and family members she’s written about? Patty’s purpose on planet Earth. Have we considered having our spouse’s on the podcast? Will we be announcing preorders for the new covers vinyl soon? Things we’re liking this week. Patty wants to highlight @rootedmethod on Instagram, and is looking forward to experiencing Wild Woman Unleashed Virtual Group Program. Dwight still loves Orange Theory Fitness. And more! Season One of the podcast is wrapping up in two weeks, and The Feelings Club will be hitting the road soon. For tour dates, tickets, and to subscribe to the mailing list, visit thewindandthewave.com. Fuck ya!

What Patty Wants Dec 17, 2019

Patty calls in this week. She’s got a cough, and has had trouble sleeping, but found an amazing doctor this morning. The BIG question: What do you want? Everyone is afraid to fail. Some people just jump in anyway. When we announced the podcast might be ending, the email inbox blew up. The podcast is not ending. Episode 52 will end Season One. What is THE FEELINGS CLUB? Does anyone deserve anything ever? The fear of not having enough. Keeping one foot out the door. Breaking up with the dream before the dream can break up with you. (Wise words from Audrey Ullman) Ego + Expectations. A shift in perspective. The voice of Reason. Thank you for listening and riding this wave with us. And a very ppecial thanks to Sommer Moya-Mendez for all her help.

    IH35 Dec 10, 2019

Conversations from the car driving back from a Christmas show with Jackopierce. Will the podcast continue? Will the band continue? Growth and change are happening all the time. Patty recently had a little life crisis, asking questions like ‘What do I want?’ - ‘What is important to me?’ - ‘What brings me joy?’ - ‘What is success?’ ...Being a responsible adult and living a creative life don’t have to be two mutually exclusive things. TWO BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS IN THIS EPISODE, including new music and tour dates! Thank you to new patron, Sally Rumsey! Three nice things about Dwight. Kids are cruel. Trusting in the universe. Anxiety and depression. Be more. Do less. Makeup tutorials. Making it in a podunk town.

What’s the Deal With Trail Mix?! Dec 03, 2019

Dwight and Patty discuss chocolate in trail mix and banana bread AND pancakes. Patty is sorta in favor and Dwight is not. All this and more on this exciting episode. Enjoy !

    You don’t wanna shake a bump.. that’s real weird Nov 12, 2019

Our podcast is sweeping the nation!!! Patty didn’t die soooo success! Also it’s period week. Does Dwight have a period ? Is Patty enjoying doing this podcast ? She claims yes because we are super productive. We have a bunch of new covers we cut! Maybe we will do some vinyl ...maybe not... people were uncool to Maggie Rogers during her concert in Austin. Must be people that just moved here..... catcalling is dumb. A couple more emails this week. Thanks for sending them and keep them coming . It pleases Patty and makes us feel like someone gives a shit. What’s the guidelines for handshakes?! What’s the meat of the greet ? Patricia doesn’t shake technicians hands. Patricia suffers from hyperhydrosis... Patricia doesn’t write songs about Dwight and would give up sugar for lent if she practiced it.

Comparison is the Devil Nov 05, 2019

Upon receiving compensation for the song placement in Lucy In The Sky, Patty treated herself to a small spree at All Saints. Patty, Dwight and Kelly have a name for their new band, which is not to be named yet. The record should be done before Christmas. If you’re a drummer, check out A&F Drums. We should have Ramy on the show! We’re working on some 80s cover songs, so become a Patreon supporter to hear those! Patty loves comedian, @jugglingthejenkins. It bothers Dwight to see others in his field, those he thinks are less talented than he is, play the game better than he does, seemingly more successful. He is also reminds us what is really important in life. Thanks, D! It’s important to be grateful for what we have, and live your life...in moderation.

Crunchier Than Your Average Popping Corn Oct 29, 2019

Patty and her popcorn stories. Dwight does something for Patty in the credits of the Lucy In The Sky movie. Patty loves the Amazon Prime series, The Man In The High Castle. Drummer Nick Spreigl is producing in LA, and we love this new song he produced called “Summer 17” by Jamal Anthony. Frank Ocean vibes! Patty reflects on her experience at Dan Savage’s film festival for amateur porn, HUMP! (Patty and her husband are not drinking for the month of October.) Cam girls, and safe sex work, you know, like Trunk-or-Treating. Patty still kind of wants to be naked in a music video, and she loves her husband’s “Mexican rice.” Dwight is curious what Patty’s love language is. She plans to take a test and report back soon. Patty looks back and appreciates her mother for all of her hard work to take care of her family while working two jobs.

My podcast is a hit! Oct 22, 2019

Patty‘s good friend Audrey Ullman is here. She’s a life long Austinite who often works with nonprofit organizations. she’s interested in finding out how to add live music to a fundraising event. What does it mean when you’re asking musicians to give their time? What does the event organizer need to know, and budget for?

Dwight has the body of a young stallion... Oct 15, 2019

Dwight has the body of a young stallion now. He still has a scab from that hotel room hornet sting that happened the last week of tour. Patty is welcome to Dwight’s house for Thanksgiving, but she’ll have to email his mom Susie first. Things Dwight likes about studio clients. Things he doesn’t like. Patty finds its important to shake people’s hands and introduce herself. You have anxiety? We have anxiety too! Dwight reads a review from our show in Dundee. Our guitarist, Scott Garret Graham has a new record out. It’s called Through The Looking Glass. Go listen to it! (Patty was not the infamous salad slurp-er, by the way.) The Wind and The Wave started as an unofficial SXSW showcase, because our friends in bands couldn’t get into a proper SXSW showcase. We did it two years in a row, and it was a huge success. It also became the name of a songwriting group we started back in the day. By the way, those are a great way to hone your craft.

Patty lost her keys in a Target. Dwight is working out. New Patreon members! The Wind and The Wave got that movie sync! Fox Searchlight’s Lucy in the Sky with Natalie Portman features “Neon Prayer Flags” as it fades to black! We formed a band with Kelly Jones of Stereophonics, and recorded a whole album together at the end of this last tour. Patty is NOT pregnant. How do we go about choosing songs for our set list? Dwight is a bass player now.

From Hollywood to Skid Row (Haley Johnsen) Oct 01, 2019

Haley Johnsen is here! You may know her from American Idol, or from her opening slot touring with The Wind and The Wave, a career highlight for sure. Reading The Artist’s Way, and her psychologically manipulative experience on American Idol gave her the confidence to pursue a career in music on her own. Following the show, Haley locked herself away in her parents shed to work on her songwriting craft, and started playing local shows around Portland. We dive into Haley’s process as an independent artist for songwriting, choosing a producer, recording her latest album and more!

An imperfect vocal take can be an amazing vocal take. Deadlines can be a really effective for creativity. Haley’s new album Golden Days is trying to help you find a more positive perspective on the human experience, despite how hard it can be sometimes. Go stream it now wherever you listen to music, follow Haley on all the things and go see her sing backup vocals and playing bass live with Big Wild! What can’t this woman do???

What’s Wrong? Oh I Don’t Know.. The Amazon Rainforest is on Fire?! Sep 24, 2019

Thank you to all of our new supporters on Patreon! FYI, the Half Priced Books on South Lamar in Austin has an original pressing of our first album with the download card for sale. The slow destruction of Hurricane Dorian is depressing, as is the burning rainforest. Can technology save Antarctica? The pollution and waste in India is insane. Amazon has a new option to request no packaging on certain items. Are all our recycling efforts being wasted? We need more public transportation! What are we going to do about all the homeless people? Patty’s never seen Skid Row. In case you’re wondering, there are several songs that Patty has been featured on over the years with other artists. Check ‘em out and let us know what you think!

We’re in Our Sexual Prime! Sep 17, 2019

Dwight’s heard a new term called ‘Pillow Princess.’ Could Patty be a pillow princess? OMGYes.com and Doja Cat. Justin Bieber’s recent social post about mental health. Walmart announced it will reduce its gun and ammunition sales one month after 20 people were killed at a Walmart in El Paso, TX. Walmart also pressured Congress to enact gun safety measures. They’ve caught a lot of flak over the years on this issue and others, but we applaud this step in a positive direction. Listener emails! The human condition and why Patty thinks about quitting on her music career all the time. Dwight’s had some anxiety lately, but is practicing active gratitude to combat that.

    The Sweeplings! Sep 10, 2019

The Sweeplings are here! They are Cami Bradley and Whitney Dean, a girl-guy musical duo, both married to other people like ourselves, but unlike us they live in different states and are basically a four person team with their significant others. We hear about their individual beginnings in music; Cami in short-lived piano lessons and being blown away by a live concert experience at a young age, and Whitney watching the drum line at high school football games. Whitney was practical from the beginning, and went to music business school, knowing the life of hired touring musician would be a lonely one. We’ll hear a little about Cami’s experience as a finalist on America’s Got Talent, and how on earth these two individuals with several miles between them came to know each other and start this unique and beautiful songwriting project.

    Do I Look Fatherly? Sep 03, 2019

Dwight and Patty are about to tour the UK again. Patty recommends a recent episode of This American Life. A long time NFL veteran football player came out as bi sexual, and that’s really awesome! Miley Cyrus is getting a divorce. Listener emails! The story of Patty’s alternate life continues. Dwight’s misophonia: is it a blessing and a curse? How do we feel about artists suing other artists for their songs being similar? Scott Graham writes in this week, as does Matthew Brue, from the band MISSIO! How do we regain our confidence when we feel vulnerable? Do we have any pre-gig rituals before taking the stage? Did we ever consider any other band names? It’s too hot in Texas. Patricia wants rain and rainbows. No one is signing up for our Patreon anymore. Patty is still planning on making Pat Pat cards. Why does Patty have puffy eyes? THE PATTY SHOW Aug 20, 2019

Patty wants to continue to invest in real estate. Dwight would like to retire in three weeks. Does anyone know how to play ‘Seven Minutes in Heaven?’ Is Kronenberg beer the UK equivalent to Bud Light? There have been several questions lately around music licensing and publishing. For those of you interested in learning more about this, please referred to episode blank and blank. How does a headliner choose their opening acts? Have you seen our music video for Neon Prayer Flags? Our good producer friend Jeff and his actor girlfriend Kelsey made that all on their own! Patty writes in with questions to find out what Dwight’s least favorite things about her are. Get ready for a long rapid fire list of odd ticks with lots of interesting noises from Dwight, who is all of a sudden seemingly not in the worst mood anymore. Superfan, Johnny wants to go back in time and kill baby Hitler. Dwight is certain that he could never have not met Patty, because we are all in a simulation and have no free will, but for the sake of this final listener question, he predicts in detail what Patty’s life would be like today had they not.

Dwight is in Bad Mood...Again Aug 13, 2019

Patty is taking the lead here because Dwight is in a piss poor mood. Patty gives him permission to feel his feelings. We have one new Patreon supporter to thank, and Dwight hopes it’s the guy who owns the vineyard, and wonders if he can send us two cases of Chardonnay. If we get five more podcast reviews today, Dwight will be 1.6% happier. Dwight and his family recently went to the beach and took their new dog, Ellie. Lets dive into some listener emails! OH! “Have-uh-land” has finally responded to Dwight’s upset about the four-star review. Perfection doesn’t exist, especially in the recording process. Patty strives for greatness knowing perfection doesn’t exist. Recording a part over and over again sucks and at some point a feeling is lost. If you don’t have it in the first four takes, take a break and come back to it. Perfect renditions aren’t interesting. Have y’all heard about this new woman super group called The High Women? We have some weird feelings about it. Learning cover songs for a long time is important for young song writers trying to find their own voice.

This episode is a great interview with our friend and bandmate Scott Graham. Enjoy !

Nick Special and The Cereals (Nick Spreigl) Jul 30, 2019

Dwight blames Patty for a couple Patreon supporters falling off the map. This week’s guest is our good friend and long time drummer, Nick Spreigl, AKA ‘Baby Face Man Body.’ Nick has a college degree in jazz and a strong manly physic. Saying three nice things about Dwight poses to be challenging for Nicholas, this new bleach blonde Cali boy. He started playing drums when he was 9 years old in Albuquerque, and continued in Denver in his high school’s marching band. With Blink 182 and Red Hot Chili Peppers as his role models, he started his first band in his parents’ basement with his guitar-playing brother as a freshman or sophomore. His band Air Dubai started during college and continued after college. They were hip hop, with jazz and funk elements. That’s when Dwight met Air Dubai and worked with them in the studio. Patty sang on one of their songs too! *** Some serious talk about sugary cereal ensues. *** Nick came to see The Wind and The Wave in Denver after the Air Dubai project was over. That’s when Dwight thought to consider Nick as a potential touring drummer for his band. Nick shares some advise for young musicians walking into an audition, and some of his own difficulties being a touring drummer. He loves living in LA, even though that is challenging in itself. He’s spends his time playing drums with other artists, teaching drum lessons, songwriting in sessions and working on his own music, which is his true passion now. You can listen to his original music by searching Nick Special on Spotify or AppleMusic, but you will fall in love so proceed with caution, because THIS JUST IN, Nick has a girlfriend! (We make a bigger deal about this than necessary.) When you’re young, you have big dreams and a lot of optimism. Nick is worried his future kids and grandkids won’t think of his music career as a real accomplishment because they may not have heard of anyone he’s toured with. What do you want your career to look like, Nick? It’s been too long since we’ve seen Nick, so we need to get back together personally and musically very soon. (You didn’t hear Tripp at all in this episode because he’s on a sedative.)

The Neil Episode Jul 23, 2019

Why do some famous people die at 27? Dwight and Patty share their theories. Patty is renting Dwight’s mom’s condo on the Texas coast this week! 📨 Listener emails from the inbox! Enduring memories from the tour. Patty tells the story of performing outside with a double rainbow at The Eden Project. More enduring memories complaints. They’ve learned some new words, like aubergine. Dwight and Patty on creative collaborations, and the interesting differences between Kelly’s and Patty’s writing style. What was our set list on this last tour? Drums is a really physical instrument, Dwight explains. Flying by the seat of our pants and seeing what happens...their whole career. Theaters are Patty’s favorite venue, but the Thetford forest gig with the whole Stereophonics band was EPIC. Patty is still in transition into home life.

The Bachelorette Episode... Jul 16, 2019

Patty and Dwight reunite after one week of being home and after their June UK tour dates. Patty is working on her tan. No new patrons this week, but apparently saying nice things about Dwight is now just how the podcast episodes start off.

‘The physical body is a dream, an illusion. Everything that we fear, or worry about is a man-made construct. The secret to power is to be immune to criticism and flattery, to be fearless and to feel beneath no one. The hard part is being immune to flattery.’ - Deepak Chopra

Is it harder to ignore flattery or criticism? Do you crave flattery more than you fear criticism? These are questions Dwight and Patty ponder for a moment before diving into listener questions. Are we considering recording and releasing a live EP? Patty has a great show when she decides she doesn’t care about it. Dwight corrects her, “just free.” What does Dwight do when people talk during an acoustic show?

(Dwight says a nice thing about Patty.)

Dwight comes up with a slogan for TripAdvisor for no reason whatsoever. Pretty sure Patty let’s a cat out of the bag. Pretty sure Dwight was supposed to edit it out, but he didn’t. Are there any Dexys Midnight Runners fans in the house? Yes, Dwight and Patty are writing music with Kelly Jones of Stereophonics. Why does Dwight get noticed a thousand percent more than Patty? Should we read every damn email that comes in from Johnny Jones? Thoughts on filming during a live musical performance. When is Patty the most “in it” while performing? Patty and that band from Denver, Air Dubai...Why is Dwight the wind and Patty the wave?

Thank you for listening! Thank you for the email you’re about to send us at thedwightandpattyshow@gmail.com, and for reviewing us on iTunes, for following us on Instagram @thedwightandpattyshow, and for your consideration on becoming one of our supporters on Patreon! Until next time…

Checking in From London Jul 09, 2019

Patty and Dwight coming to you literally from their twin beds in a hotel room. This tour is winding down. Patty’s mental health has been very good in comparison to previous tours. The shows have been incredible. Dwight toots his own horn a bit. Patty has been shopping and no longer has enough room in her suitcase for everything. Here’s a new and fun update… Dwight and Patty have been writing songs with Kelly Jones on the tour. They even went into a studio to record some of them. No idea what’s to come of that collaboration, but defo enjoying the creativity. Patreon appreciation! Patty reads a new reviews. (She’s way better at reading in her head than aloud.) Emails! (Dwight is yelling again.)
In sound recording and reproduction, audio mixing is the process of combining multitrack recordings into a final mono, stereo or surround sound product… How does Dwight decide how to mix a song? Dwight is suddenly really hungry looking at Paul’s photography website… What do you think is the reason for the success of this project? Dwight has taken a page out of Bob Schneider’s book. Schneider is someone who fearlessly does whatever he wants, and truly does it for the sake of the art. Advise:

“You HAVE to do what you think is the shit, and hope that other people think it’s the shit. That’s what art is.” -D.B.

Dwight and Patty on the idea of “making it.” Have you ever really made it? Does the idea of “making it” devalue the musician who’s playing the local bar five nights a week? Also, Patty hates it when people say things like “ Your moment will come!” She doesn’t want to defend her career (because there have been several amazing moments along the journey), and she also doesn’t want to feel like she’s running a race or chasing some mysterious thing. Another email from cheeky, Johnny Jones…Dwight is going to fight him. What inspires your creativity more, depressing or happiness? Who has influenced you the most in your family?

Checking in from Scotland Jul 02, 2019

An update from the road with some questionable audio quality backstage. Sorry, not sorry. Patreon appreciation before we jump into more emails... How has streaming music affected the artist? Spotify needs to allow artists to access their listeners... Has improv helped Patty? She was super terrified about the final showcase, but it ended up being really fun. She recommends improv, and would like to continue herself, but also has other new things she wants to try... Johnny Jones is a cheeky motherfucker... Dwight wants to know Patty’s thoughts on Miley Cyrus’ take on marriage, sexual identity and gender... and then makes her say nice things about him, and that’s a wrap.

Last Episode Before the UK? Jun 25, 2019

Patty reads an excerpt from The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, a book highly recommended to any and all creative persons. Dwight reads a few reviews, and asks one reviewer to make a change. The bulk of this episode is tackling fan emails before we head off to the UK. Where can one support the band? Where can one find band merchandise? How do we record the podcast and get it to the people? Another business conversation ensues before Dwight and Patty share some of their Austin favorites. And more fan questions...

You Can’t Grow From It If You’re Running Away From It Jun 18, 2019

Thanks to all the new patrons! Some supporters are currently enjoying three new songs we’ve shared on Patreon, one of which is our cover of Stereophonics’ “Dakota.” The tune actually already came out worldwide, but our supporters had it weeks prior! Tonight is Patty’s level 1 improv showcase, and she’s pretty nervous. She may want to take a dance class when we return from tour. Dwight has noticed her dancing on her socials. Patty is trying to embrace the sexy femme side of herself more proudly, like in a positive, self love kind of way. That may or may not explain all the new clothes she purchased for the UK tour. Dwight went clean shaven three weeks ago, and has been rocking the jean jacket lately. His son, Evan thinks he looks like a 20 year old boy, and for some reason he’s under the impression that is an insult. It’s not. Dwight does look younger when he shaves the greying beard. Should he shave it for the tour, or keep the beard look? Dwight doesn’t think The Wind and The Wave would have gotten their first record deal if he had walked into RCA at 40 years old with a greying beard. EMAILS! Jenny called Dwight wise, and has a question for Patty. “What role has religion played in your life, and how has it shaped your lyrics?” - “How has therapy impacted your songwriting? I’m a songwriter and I’m also in therapy, and a fear of mine has been that talking out my shit will be the catharsis that writing normally is, and will leave me with less shit to say.” THIS GIRL IS CRUSHING QUESTIONS. We talk about our Covers One album and how we approached making those songs our own. Another email from Colleen (who is doing this correctly) - “What are you most proud of personally or professionally?” …Patty needs to accept the fact that she’s good at something. That’s a whole conversation all on its own. MORE QUESTIONS: “What is your favorite piece of music you have ever worked on?” - “What did you want to be growing up?” - “Is there someone you want to work with? Do you have a musical bucket list?”

Who wants to live in a world where Gladys Knight comes in second place? (Tom Desavia) Jun 11, 2019

This is part two of our conversation with music publisher extraordinaire, Tom Desavia, who retired for a bit after feeling uninspired and a little lost within the industry. His audiobook received a Grammy nomination, but the political climate pushed him into a dark place mentally. He cashed in some flyer miles and went to Hawaii on whim for two weeks, which seemed like a terrible mistake as he exited the plane in Waikiki. He actually did love what he did for a living. (Dwight worries this will happen to Patty if she ever hangs up her hat.) Desavia instantly put feelers out when he returned to LA, but the tumbleweeds rolled by and imposter syndrome set in. Lucky for Concord Music, Desavia was available when they needed to fill a roll that suited him to a T. Okay, so what is a publishing company, and what is their role in an artists career? Why does a songwriter work with one? Should they? What is a sync, and how can that supplement an artist’s income? The right sync can not only make an artist a good bit of cash, and can also give their music a bit of immortality that maybe it wouldn’t have had otherwise. So how does an artist go about connecting with a publisher? Side note: Art is NOT competitive -and- There is NO fast track!

Be sure to check out Tom Desavia’s second book, ‘More Fun In The New World, The Unmaking and Legacy of LA Punk’ featuring about 23 authors from the punk scene writing about the era from 1982-1987. (Everybody reads their own chapter in the audiobook version which is wicked cool!)

Writing About Music Is Like Dancing About Architecture (Tom Desavia) Jun 04, 2019

Fuck it. This episode’s guest is, among other things, one of L.A.’s seven natives whose audiobook received a Grammy nomination, Mr. Elektra Records himself, the bearded wonder of music publishing, Tom Desavia. We met this badass at the SONGS Publishing office after Patty’s publisher, Kasey Truman signed her back in 2013. Apparently the night ended in several shots. (I have no memory of that. -Patty) Desavia did not go to college. He took time off after high school to “panic and smoke weed,” 🌲and then caught a lucky break in music journalism at the age of 19. This was the late 80s, a time when magazines were actually hiring writers. Patty (journalism major) is clearly jealous. Desavia believes that press sells records. Do you read album reviews? Much like his experience in A&R, Desavia took no joy in being forced to be critical within music journalism, especially on records he never felt qualified to judge. 🖕Dwight has a real problem with anyone from A&R (at a record label), or publishing company asking him to change his work. Desavia takes on the role of a fan. He’s attracted to musicians that are naturally great at their art, those that already know where they’re going. What are ASCAP and BMI, etc? What’s the difference between writing royalties vs. mechanical royalties? 💵 At what point should a writer sign up with a performing rights organization? Is it essential? It was a long road to music publishing for Desavia, but well worth it. A lot of knowledge is going to be dropped in the next episode, part two of our conversation Tom Desavia. Young writers should tune in!

Overwhelmed, Kind of Angry and Slightly Therapized May 28, 2019

Dwight is angry and admits to having been a bit short tempered lately. His kids don’t want to come to the UK. WTF? We haven’t yet figured out how we’re recording the podcast overseas, but we’re trying to! Patty offers to help Dwight to alleviate his stress and long to-do list. Diving into more emails, we start off talking about our feelings around the upcoming UK tour. Someone is interested in being walked through the process of creating a particular song, and knowing why we decided to make certain changes along the way. Patty has a terrible memory for their songs’ processes, and how they came to be their final versions. Dwight admits to never keeping alternate versions of songs. When he makes a decision to change something, even something as drastic as the entire groove, tempo or key of a song, he’ll permanently delete things and move on. He recalls that Neon Prayer Flags was almost a country-like song. It’s important for us to be decisive. Luckily we both like similar things and we’re able to agree on decisions quickly. We have a new. acoustic version of “Human Beings,” and a cover of Stereophonics’ “Dakota,” (that some of our patrons have already), but we don’t plan on creating more acoustic versions of songs off the Human Beings album. Fun fact: Our song “AnythingFor You” was written for a movie, but another band took that slot. Dwight thinks it was Coldplay. We were going to get to more emails, but the conversation quickly turned to into a band meeting by mistake. Dwight is missing Patty’s Level 1 improv performance. Patty shares some ambiance she recorded while in Tulum.

We Can't All Be One Hundred May 21, 2019

Dwight is feeling overwhelmed and frustrated, and is having a hard time talking today. We have some new patrons to thank! There’s a crap ton of stuff both Dwight and Patty have to do before they leave for the UK at the end of May. Patty is feeling a good after her trip to Tulum, MX. She went to a full moon cacao ceremony with Rachel Musquiz, and apparently it felt transformative. Dwight says he does notice a difference, but is confident he’ll get his ‘grumpy pants Patty’ back soon enough. We’re so glad the emails are starting to roll in. Keep ‘me coming guys! As we go through some of these new emails, we discuss having compassion for yourself as an artist, music we’re currently listening to, things we like to do when we break from creating, and the shittiest jobs we’ve ever had.

Shame Poured Over Me Like Molasses (Chapman Bullock) May 13, 2019

We’re back with our buddy Chapman Bullock, who brought us Home Slice Pizza, setting the bar for all future podcast guests. Patty wants to know how does one value their own work. Dwight shares his own experience. Do you want to be a Motel 6, or a Four Seasons? Chapman shares how he increased his rates the more he learned and grew as an artist. He created the graphics package for the very first HD channel on his first job, and more recently, the title sequence for Jordan Peele’s movie, Us. It’s 90% who you know folks! Young artists should go work long hours around other artists before breaking out on their own. Dwight likes working in big studios around other musicians and “life.” Chapman concurs, working in a space where you can “shoot the shit” with other people. He currently shoots the shit and shares a space with Alexandra Valenti, a world renowned photographer with whom we’ve had a couple different shoots with. (We should have her on the show.) It’s interesting to think about art prices in terms of hourly wages. Dwight recently met a guy who does large portraits of people’s pets. Patty has a hand stitched patch of her dog, Tripp and it is a spitting image. (Will post on the insta!) Okay, now Chapman has questions for Dwight and Patty. He covers first records owned, first concerts attended, most important albums, inspiration, and more. Politics vs Religion in terms of conversations we’re willing to have. (We don’t have them though!) Patty tells the story of that time her dad chucked an Eminem CD out the window of her first car. We touch on the fact that people don’t listen to albums much anymore, and the idea of consuming music in smaller doses. We’re considering releasing our new songs in the moment while we’re really excited about them. What do you think about that? Let us know!

Sounds Like A Real Good Way To Die (Chapman Bullock) May 07, 2019

Patty’s improv class is going well. Dwight is working really hard on preparing the duo for their upcoming tour overseas. Thank you to our new patrons! There’s a new “High Roller” tier on our Patreon account. Dwight reads an email we received from Zop, Stereophonics tour manager, in a British accent. (Who is “Disco Dave?”) Fan emails are starting to roll in. Thank God! Will we release an acoustic version of the Human Beings album? 🤷🏻‍♀️ We’re playing a stripped down set at Stubb’s in Austin, TX on May 26 with Dwight‘s son, Jackson Baker opening the show. We’re also considering touring acoustically as a duo in the US. Are you interested in that? Email us! Will we do a track commentary for Human Beings Let You Down? I dunno, but that’s a good idea. Patty likes the new Missio album. Oh, there’s a new tier on our Patreon account. Check it out! #BBITW 👈 What’s that? Patty put on makeup for this episode’s guest, and our friend, Chapman Bullock, a handsome Art Director who specializes in design and animation, but is terrible at drawing? We explore his Floridian roots and early interest in skate culture, film and photography. Both of his creative parents encouraged him to go to art college, and he soon realized he could one day turn his hobby into a career. What is motion design? NBD, Chap “did a bunch of stuff for the Super Bowl.” He walks us through his process of deciding what projects to take on, bidding for jobs, identifying what the clients want, creating mood boards, storyboarding and more. The dudes continue talk around sports and Patty tries to keep up. Listen to episode 18 for the second half of our conversation with Chapman Bullock.

Do You See Whats Happening Here? Apr 30, 2019

Dwight and Patty are rehearsing for their UK acoustic tour with Stereophonics lead singer Kelly Jones. Patty has taken over the Patreon account. There is some discussion about the new songs in progress. There are three on their way! We have some awesome fan emails on this episode regarding Dwight’s health, fan do’s and dont’s, what we like and dislike about touring, whether or not we have a new album in the works, and more. Did you know that Patty has been featured in not one, but two hip hop songs? One is with Zeale and the other is with Air Dubai, and both have music videos! Listeners are starting to review the podcast, and that feels awesome. Dwight reads a few of our recent reviews, including one where we may have saved an actual human life. 🙏🏼 Email us at thedwightandpattyshow@gmail.com, review us on iTunes, follow us on Instagram @thedwightandpattyshow, and consider becoming one of our patrons on Patreon!

Short Stop Hot Dog Red Beans And Rice Apr 23, 2019

Patty shares random lyrical thoughts she’s jotted down in the last week. Dwight reads some recent podcast reviews that are awesome, and pushes our email address again just before diving into a new email from Rebecca. Where does our inspiration come from? Most of Patty’s inspiration comes from her own personal story. Dwight shares his observations of her process, and what goes into planning a tour. We reminisce on how our live show has evolved over the years, and then Dwight puts Patty on the spot: Do you want to tour anymore, Patty? What is pod touring? Patty and Dwight are thinking about touring as a duo again. If that interests you (or makes you mad), let us know in an email! Email us at mailto:thedwightandpattyshow@gmail.com. Look At That Girl With Her Dad Apr 16, 2019

Patty is about to start her improv course. Extracurricular activities for Dwight means giving up time with his family. Patty and her husband are making an effort to be more social. She’s drinking more alcohol as a result. 🥂🍹🍸Are you filtering everything through a ‘lens of perfection?’ 👓 It’s okay to make mistakes! Theres no such thing as...the perfect tree. There’s no need to hide your true self. Let’s all just be authentic. FYI - Dwight is getting frustrated with the lack of emails from the podcast listeners. Thank you to everyone who has written us! Wonderful fan questions from Colleen! It’s tough to not try to be something that you love, and instead just be you. Side Note: If you share something with the world that isn’t you and doesn’t make you happy, inevitably that will be the thing that brings you success and you’ll be stuck sharing it with the world forever. Patty doesn’t like to sing and search for notes in front of Dwight, because she doesn’t want to look stupid. (Maybe improv will fix that.) Dwight shares some of his fears, and encourages Patty to have kids if she wants to. Every musical project Dwight works on, he approaches in vastly different ways. Music can be ridiculous and fun, and also deep and thought provoking. Maybe we’ll start writing some more dance tunes. If that interests you (or makes you queasy), let us know in an email! Email us at thedwightandpattyshow@gmail.com. Review us on iTunes or wherever you consume this podcast, and follow us on instagram @thedwightandpattyshow!

I Want To Be Someone Who Takes Up Space (Jen Jacob) Apr 09, 2019

Patty ruined her tea with too much honey. Dwight prefers his tea British style. 🇬🇧(Is that a foreshadowing?) A couple months after her sister’s death, Jen began studying at NYU. Healing has been a process. The Tisch School of the Arts sounds a lot like Hogwarts. Dwight makes a football comparison in understanding the different techniques of acting. Fun Fact: Patty and Dwight are both SAG-AFTRA members after being on the show, Hart of Dixie back in 2014. Auditioning is the worst, and it’s a catch 22, because for professional jobs you really need an agent and a manager. (Jen got really lucky.) Jen scours acting websites, and submits herself for everything she thinks she’d be good at. Jen’s advice to aspiring actors: Get out there, do the work, and put in the time. Take classes! (That’s a great place to meet people.) People want to help each other, so ask for introductions. If you’re not booking plays, do showcases. You just never know. (Sidebar: You can’t be above doing the work. Patty and Dwight still ship out their own merchandise.) We all assume the worst so we don’t get let down, but we also believe in the power of positive thinking. Rejection can be hard, but get used to it! Voiceover work…Dwight wants to make a lot of money in the field. Is that possible? Patty is starting an 8-week improv class so she can be silly, let go and not take things so seriously. FAN QUESTIONS cover Jen’s morning routine, her day job, her favorite hair products, what she would tell her 20-year-old self and more. Jen is working on her own original pilot! We also talk about health and wellness re: being a partner to someone who is not well (i.e. Jesse Ruben and Lyme disease). Jen wasn’t a stranger to illness. Another ugly truth: The caretaker is the hero of the story, (i.e. getting praise and attention), but you can’t be everything to any one person. It takes a village! Jen and Patty both have experiences with eating disorders. Disordered behaviors (red flags) vs. full blown eating disorders. Positive reinforcements for negative behaviors. “I want to be someone who takes up space. The thinner I am, the smaller space I take up.” - Jen Jacob. “I place more value on my strength than on my size. Feeling strong feels better than feeling thin.” -Patty Lynn. Dwight wants clarity. It’s not difficult for any one person to answer for themselves. What is your intention? What is motivating you? Are you treating yourself with love? ♥️ Everyone is different. Listen to YOUR body. Like her husband, Jen runs marathons for charitable causes. She runs for Fred’s Team for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Follow @Jen.Jacob on Instagram by April 27, so you can see her post the fundraising page for 2019. Check out Jen’s appearance in upcoming films, Between The Lines and The Game! Oh and you can see her on Lena Dunham’s GIRLS in Season 3 as “Larraby Delayne,” and in Aziz Ansari’s Master of None as “Paola,” and so much more. Way to go, Jenny!

    Special Edition #1 (Friday, April 5, 2019) Apr 05, 2019

We’re going back on tour. Did Patty manifest it? Regardless, we’re excited about the Kelly Jones solo tour in UK/Scotland/Wales with a few Stereophonics shows as well, and probably a couple acoustic shows on our own. This time, we’ll actually have merchandise! Side Note: Patty thinks Stephen Dorff from the latest season of True Detective is V handsome. Fun Fact: Dwight has had lunch with him. WE HAVE NEW PATRONS! WE HAVE FAN EMAILS! Reading opens up the word spigot for Dwight. “All you’re trying to do is get little sparks to explode…” Patty is reading The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, and HIGHLY recommends it to any and all creative individuals out there. It’s a very easy read. Dwight claims he is starting another band, and he will not be recruiting Patty because she’s “such a pain in the ass.” (Dwight’s mic starts to die and he gets real pissed off.) We touch on the subject of dieting and health/wellness again due to a fan question. Too much of anything can be bad. Anybody that’s doing anything creative honestly is a source of inspiration for both of us. To end things, we dive into the depths of Patty’s brain. She was feeling really down on her creative self last week, and shares her thoughts from that dark moment when she couldn’t see the light. She wasn’t productive, felt like a failure and listened to all the negative thoughts her brain was feeding her, and we analyze those a little bit.

⁃Sometimes it feels like just another thing I HAVE to do.
⁃Sometimes it feels like an assignment from Dwight. (I want to live up to all the expectations! Weird daddy issue thing?)
⁃Sometimes it feels like a waste of time.
⁃Sometimes it causes me stress. (I feel frustrated when I don’t have any good ideas. Hormones?)
    ⁃This is stupid.
⁃What if I don’t buy into this idea of Resistance? (Or is that exactly what Resistance wants?)
⁃Is acting in the face of Resistance synonymous with doing the thing that truly makes you happy?

The only thing that holds Patty back is PATTY. Is acceptance the first step in “recovery?” Please email us your thoughts! Can you relate? Maybe you’re struggling creatively. What helps you? We want to know! Please email us at mailto:thedwightandpattyshow@gmail.com. Review us on iTunes or wherever you consume this podcast, and follow us on instagram @thedwightandpattyshow!

Here's the Ugly Truth (Jen Jacob) Apr 02, 2019

Dwight almost died, but a cool lesbian doctor saved his life. We have tons of listeners now, but we’re lacking in reviews. PLEASE REVIEW US! Also, become patron, unlike Patty’s mom…(JK love you, Mom). Patty is finally taking over @thedwightandpattyshow instagram so it won’t suck as much. This week’s guest is a mega star actress with a ridiculous bio and fabulous hair. 💇🏻‍♀️Jennifer Jacob! (Previous guest, Jesse Ruben is her hubby. He clearly has good taste.) What is drama therapy? Jen’s first leading role was Cinderella at age 12, when her older sister was diagnosed with cancer, a desmoplastic round cell tumor to be exact. Here’s the ugly truth: her love of acting derived from a love of attention during that time in her life. We can relate. Having something to do, a passion to focus on in times of stress can be really helpful. We’re putting a pin in it right here, but tune into Ep. 13 as we dive into what it’s like being a working actor in New York, living with another creative, working on an original pilot, health and wellness and more!

Please email us at thedwightandpattyshow@gmail.com with your questions/topic ideas/curiosities/whatever you want!

Emboldened By The Power Of A Rainbow (Rachel Musquiz) Mar 26, 2019

Dwight explains why he calls Rachel “Patty’s wife.” What is the psychology behind mean girls? You can tell when someone is living in the light, and it’s infectious! Dwight tries to make a new adult male friend. From Italy to a food truck in Austin, Texas...How? Rachel talks to plants. Patty plays it safe. Let’s learn about Ayurveda! What’s your dosha? Is Rachel straight? It’s a spectrum, Dwight! 🌈 We can all agree, when vegetarian and vegan food is prepared well and tastes amazing, we don’t even think about what’s not on the plate. Curcuma food truck is in East Austin, and business is good! Dude, how good is avocado?! 🥑 A little comparison between songwriting and recipe development; i.e. the ability to accept outside opinion, move past failures and celebrate your successes. What’s next? Brick and mortar + Launching the golden paste! (Is there a Tinder for commercial real estate?) People see success and see glamour, but you can’t be above booking your own show, or squeezing paste into your own tubes. If you agree food is medicine, follow Rachel on Instagram @eatcurcuma and @lunafixa!

I Have To Figure Out A Way To Keep Doing This (Rachel Musquiz) Mar 19, 2019

Patty is feeling positive. Dwight introduces us to AMSR, (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response), and his top three most hated sounds. Part one of a conversation with Rachel Musquiz, chef and founder of Curcuma, commences. She is the first female and non-musician guest on the podcast, and Patty is in love with her. Dwight tries Golden Mylk for the first time ever on the mic. Rachel has plant based based diet. 🌱 Dwight eats meat. 🥩 He’s lost 14 lbs on Paleo, and feels great! We talk about Rachel’s origins in Northern California, her start in the music industry in New York City, crossing things off the list of accomplishments and hitting a burnout point. She takes a chance and ends up in an artist residency in Italy cooking for a large group of people. 👩🏻‍🍳 As a culinary artist there, it was the first time she thought of food an expression of her creativity. Part 2 of this conversation continues in the episode 11.

but I worked extra hard on this one! (Jesse Ruben) Mar 12, 2019

Part 2 with Jesse Ruben. Super supportive parents. Can Jesse appreciate simple songs. Do people care about chords ? Writing alone is hard. Writing through noodling. Finding creative time in a small Brooklyn apartment is not easy when you are married. This girl is a keeper. Patty is taking notes?! When you get sick it comes on slowly. Lyme disease sucks. The sickness stops Jesse in his tracks. The We Can project and it’s origins.

    that’s so cute guys, I’m 91 (Jesse Ruben) Mar 05, 2019

Jesse Ruben is our 3rd guest. Patricia has a brand new computer that she still hasn’t taken out of the box after two weeks. Jesse’s dad is Bert Reynolds?? Musical families create musicians. Everyone seems to hate piano lessons... And their Dad. Jesse immediately felt like he was supposed to be a songwriter for life when he picked up an acoustic. Jesse is def not punk but he does love Incubus...He’s still trying not to write John Mayer songs. Dwight cried during U2 and Patricia still cries a lot. Berklee College of music nervous breakdowns and bad internet.

There is something freeing in limitations... (Clint Wells) Feb 26, 2019

Clint’s process. The art of being authentic on a schedule. Make your writing room your creative cave. Patty discusses her first Nashville writing trip. Dummy lyrics. How many songs do pros write a year? Clocking in and doing the work. The mythology of magic. Kill Clint if he is gigging at the Raddison. Patricia still can’t give herself credit for her accomplishments. How to do sculptors see a Swan in a block of ice? Seeing songs in the ether is the same thing. Dwight is always producing Patty.

I’ll take the eyebrow ring out soon, I promise! (Clint Wells) Feb 19, 2019

Patreon shoutouts ! Dwight doesn’t know how to do lists. Patricia (who has a Mexican passport, can’t speak Spanish) Second guest Clint Wells talks way better than us. Common core math for ages. Does Clint dress nicer for teachers ? Always be show ready. How to ignore Uber drivers. How to announce to others on tour that you should avoided that day. A rock and roll soldier playing country licks. Pop country creates the need for the left of center country. The guitar is an essential part of Clint’s life.

Let's Talk About It (Missio) Feb 12, 2019

3rd and final conversation with MISSIO about their songwriting process. We also discuss the difficulties of working with labels on creative content like videos album artwork and even song content that have to go through the filter of label staff. Where song ideas come from. How many times will Dwight say let’s talk about? (too many times). Vulnerability and the pressure of delivering when your moment arrives.

Oh so its a situation now? (Missio) Feb 05, 2019

Patty and Dwight continue their conversation with MISSIO. Will Dwight ever stop talking? (No) TDAPS theme song existed years before a show existed and the gang discusses why. MISSIO origin continued as well as early writing exercises that lead to their current sound. Matt discusses his dark times that lead to the early MISSIO songs. Also a discussion on the value of pop music.

If Self Doubt Could Burn Calories (Missio) Jan 29, 2019

Patty and Dwight welcome their first guest to the podcast , MISSIO! Dwight gets presents and feels sick. Patty discusses mental breakdowns and apologies. They also discuss their ugly shoe fashion choices. Sweaters vs. sweatshirts. The podcast digs into Missios origin and the boys thoughts on their process.
