    Music and Books the Will Change Your Mind, Part 1: Brenton Brown and Some of My Favorite Reads of 2022 Dec 07, 2022
    Show notes

    Life is hard, and we need to be ready for it when it shows up.

    I believe that a process called pre-hab is one of the keys to handling the hard things life throws at us. And for me, two of the key tools in my pre-hab are worship music and good books.

    Today, I introduce you to one of my favorite songwriters, Brenton Brown, and I give you some of my favorite books I read in 2022. These are books that I found to be amazingly helpful and powerful, and I think they’ll help you, too.

    Music by Brenton Brown, Paul Baloche, Chris Tomlin, and Phillips, Craig, & Dean.

    Books mentioned:

    Rembrandt is in the Wind by Russ Ramsey

    Surprised by Hope by NT Wright

    The Loveliest Place by Dustin Benge

    Eat This Book and A Long Obedience in the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson

    Suffering by Paul David Tripp

    Your Brain is Always Listening by Daniel Amen

    Beyond the Darkness by Clarissa Moll

    This Naked Mind by Annie Grace

    Quiet Time: What We Need Dec 04, 2022
    Show notes

    A Few More Thoughts on Self-Advocacy, Being Enough, Relative Truth, and Finding the Light

    The world is screaming at us things like:

    * “Live YOUR truth!”

    * “You ARE ENOUGH!”

    * “Everyone needs to respect YOUR identity, and YOUR rights!”

    The problem is, the more we listen to these ideas, the more tired and weak and dry our lives seem to become. There has to be a better way.

    There is.

    This quiet time explores the path forward out of the dryness and darkness of these lies, and will help you find the light again.

    Scriptures:

    But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. II Corinthians 12:9-10 NIV

    When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

    John 8:12 NIV

    I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, Ephesians 1:18-20 NIV

    Self-Brain Surgery Saturday: Ablate Self-Advocacy Dec 03, 2022
    Show notes

    It’s Self-Brain Surgery Saturday!

    Today, we learn a brand-new operation called Ablate Self-Advocacy. This will help you reject the idea that you have to fight for yourself amidst life’s troubles, and embrace the truth that we have a perfect advocate, the Yes to every promise God has made, to help us.

    If you’re tired of being tired, tired of thinking life is always so hard, tired of feeling like you have to fight and claw for everything in your life, this is the operation you need.

    Scripture: 2 Corinthians chapter 1

    For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. II Corinthians 1:20, NIV

    Here’s a perfect example of this self-brain surgery operation:
