EP31 - Jay-z NFL Deal Will Not Stop Cops From Killing Unarmed Black People... Aug 20, 2019
    Show notes

On Todays Episode We Discuss Jay-Z facing backlash from supporters of Colin Kaepernick and critics of the National Football League, plus being accused of back shooting Jermaine Dupri after the NFL announced last week that the hip-hop mogul and his label teamed up with the league on a new initiative to amplify social justice. The partnership doesn't include the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback a fact that was not lost on his supporters and came on the heels of the third anniversary of Kaepernick's historic protest on the field. Attorney Mark Geragos, who represents Kaepernick, described the deal in a phone interview with ABC News on Monday as "cold-blooded."This deal between Jay-Z and the NFL crosses the intellectual picket line," Geragos said, adding that neither the NFL nor Jay-Z reached out to Kaepernick during discussions. "I can confirm to you that the deal was already done prior to any conversation that [Kaepernick] had with Jay-Z and he certainly didn’t have any conversations with the NFL," Geragos said. Kaepernick, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2016, was propelled into the national spotlightwhen he became the first NFL player to take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem to protest racism and police brutality on Aug. 14, 2016. Everyone from Hot97 Ebro In The Morning, Cthagod from the breakfast club, Freddie Gibbs and tons more have all weighed in with thier opinions on this situation after social media went into flames calling Jay-z a sellout for not contacting Colin Kaepernick or having him apart of this deal. Shortly after all the backlash and news the NFL released a statement stating Jayz would own a substantial amount of a NFL team. Day by day this story gets more out of control, so we at The Doc Hicks Podcast decided to give our thoughts on this situation.

    Show notes

On todays episode, we discuss Detroit's music scene and the inner hate that divides the city. Some years back a company owned by Tommey Walker Jr coined the phrases 'Detroit vs Everybody' Since then Eminem, Royce da 59, Dej Loaf and Big Sean created a anthem that went viral and many other city's started to use the logo and saying. Recently we seen a video on Instagram by a artist by the name of Tone Tone from Detroit eastside respectfully question that saying based on the inner hate and competition that goes with the city that negatively impacts the growth of the local Detroit music scene. A day or so before tee grizzley went through his situation were he was shot at and his manager was unfortunately killed, I made this podcast called is it Detroit vs Detroit? We have been creating content on youtube under the banner Doc Hicks TV for over 7 years now and we have been asked the question many of times what's are thoughts on Detroit local talent and is there a reason why we selectively pick and choose the artist from Detroit we feature on our brand, Is there a beef? Detroit artist should be supporting your platform more etc. So in this episode I give you a full understanding from my perspective answering all those questions. Is it really Detroit vs everybody or is it Detroit vs Detroit?
