    The Devoted Dreamers Podcast

What if the dream in your heart was placed there by God for a reason?

Merritt Onsa, host of The Devoted Dreamers Podcast, helps Christian women in midlife find the courage to pursue their God-shaped dreams—even when fear, doubt, and imposter syndrome say they’re not ready.

Through real conversations with women living out their callings and short solo episodes full of biblical truth and encouragement, you’ll discover:
✨ How to move forward even when you feel unqualified
✨ The source of lies that keep dreamers stuck (and the truth that sets you free)
✨ Practical wisdom for taking the next brave step with God

This is your safe place to wrestle with questions about how to move forward, get clarity for your calling, and remember you don’t have to do it alone.

Together we’re building a community of sisters in Christ who will remind you where your hope lies and encourage you to keep taking the next step.

If you’re ready to stop second-guessing and start walking boldly with Jesus toward the life He’s calling you to, you’re in the right place.

If you live near Denver, Colorado, you can meet this week's guest, Alexandra Kuykendall, in person at the Denver Institute for Faith & Work event called “Ambition: Living with Drive & Devotion” happening this Friday, March 10th in Denver. Learn more & register here: http://denverinstitute.org/ambition/

Alexandra Kuykendall says she spends her days driving to multiple schools, figuring out what to feed her people and searching for a better solution to the laundry dilemma. Author of Loving My Actual Life: An Experiment in Relishing What’s Right in Front of Me and The Artist’s Daughter: A Memoir, Alex is co-hostess of The Open Door Sisterhood Podcast. A trusted voice in mothering circles, Alex speaks to women around the world about issues of parenting, faith and identity. She lives in the shadows of downtown Denver with her husband Derek and their 4 daughters.

In this interview, Alex talks about her nine-month experiment that led her to write the book “Loving My Actual Life” including finding more quiet in her days and how she adjusted her family’s morning routine to give them a better start to their day. Alex is honest about the challenge it’s been to ask God for what she wants in the dream category. I can’t help but think she’s not the only one out there wrestling with the fear of sounding ungrateful or being disappointed if God said “no” to her request.

I know you’ll love hearing from Alex, the unique assignment God has given her in this life and the little ways she’s tweaked things so she can be more content right where she is right now.

Jess Connolly is passionate to communicate about Jesus. Whether that's through writing, speaking, or having a coffee date -- she loves spurring other women on and wants to leave her generation more in awe of God than she found it. She's one of the co-founders of SheReadsTruth, one of the owners of Amen Paper Company, co-author of USA Today Best Seller "Wild and Free," and the co-founder of The Influence Conference and Network. She lives in Charleston, South Carolina where she and her husband have planted Gospel Community Church.

In this interview, Jess talks about seeing herself as more of a developer than a dreamer and how God has used that characteristic for His purposes. She shares about the church-planting journey she and her husband, Nick, have been on for the last 11 years and how, for a time, that was a sore spot in their marriage. Today, this is where her focus lies – in really digging in to support him and the church – and she talks about what that looks like for them and their relationship.

I love what Jess had to say about finding and building community before you run after your dreams and what that has looked like for her as a church planter’s wife and a public figure. We also discuss her new book on holiness called “Dance Stand Run,” which is coming out in October 2017.

I know you’ll love hearing from Jess. My apologies for the sound-quality on this one – stay tuned, I’m certain we’ll have the issues fixed by Episode 36!

33 Mini-Interview with Erin Straza: Creative Writer | Heartfelt Speaker | Redeemed Dreamer Feb 22, 2017
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Here’s a quick follow-up conversation for you with Erin Straza (who was a guest back in episode 1 of the podcast). In this mini-episode, Erin talks about her newly released book, Comfort Detox: Finding Freedom from the Habits that Bind You. I invited her back to chat with us about how life is different now and what she’s learned from becoming a published author.

I love Erin’s honesty about hitting an emotional wall just a few months before the big launch and what it feels like to put your words out into the world when you can no longer edit them. She shares how she was changed by the process of writing and publishing Comfort Detox and what she learned about her own comfort-seeking behavior. She says her fears and doubts still linger; they just look a little different now than they did when she first came on the show.

I’m right in the middle of reading Comfort Detox, and if you’re looking for freedom from habits that bind you to comfort-seeking instead of bold and courageous living, this one will be a great read for you. You can grab it over on Amazon, here (affiliate link).

32 Interview with Amber Brannon: Girl Boss | Creative | Designing with Heart Feb 15, 2017
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Instead of listening to God, graphic designer Amber Brannon says she was fearful of the unknown in the dream He’d given her. And then there was that day He made it abundantly clear that she was to leave her agency job to create a business of her own.

So, with fear and trepidation, she took that step and found herself in a dream job that’s provided more than enough for her needs and allowed her to build a design business full of heart for telling her clients’ stories.

Amber is a free spirit, a lover of people and Jesus, and a self-confessed coffee-choc-oholic who wants to unleash stunning design on the world. She believes in dreaming big, working hard, finding connection and pushing boundaries. I can’t wait for her to share her bold adventure with you, the fears that kept her from doing it at first, and the beautiful story that finally caused her to listen to what God had been whispering in her ear.

BONUS EPISODE: Introducing The Devoted Dreamers Podcast Feb 07, 2017

I’m jumping into your feed today with an update about the podcast following the season break I took in January.

First, The Momentum Podcast is now called The Devoted Dreamers Podcast. In this mini-episode you’ll hear a bit about what was going on in my world before I launched this podcast, more about the name change and new tagline, and what’s on my heart for the future of this endeavor that I’m secretly calling a “Dream Ministry.”

May you be encouraged as I share that dreams, like this podcast, don’t just happen. There’s a lot of fear, discouragement, and fighting back lies to get even this mini-episode in your hands. Let’s pray together that we each remain faithful to our God, His calling up on our lives—which is really to be disciples who make disciples—and the hope we have in Jesus.

My gift to you at the start of Season Two: a list of the top recommended books from guests who appeared in Season One of the podcast. You can find it here: www.merrittonsa.com/SeasonOneBooks

My interview this week veers a bit from the norm. In this episode, I’m speaking with two previous Momentum guests, Alysa Passage and Cheryl McGrath, who partnered together to do something new that would move them forward in their God-shaped dreams.

Their story is not only a great example of courageous movement toward their dreams, but it also covers a topic we could all benefit from—better self-care. I hope their experience of stepping out and trying something new gives you an idea or some encouragement about what might be your next step. And, you’ll get a glimpse into the value and power of caring for yourself so you have the energy and space in 2017 to continue to pursue what God has laid on your heart.
