Ep: 302 – Minnesota Vikings Postgame Show – Detroit Lions Podcast Nov 09, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman discuss the latest Lions loss to the Minnesota Vikings. This matchup has been brutal to the Lions over the years, and in this meeting the Minnesota Vikings prevailed again. The Lions did everything they could to give the game to the Minnesota Vikings, including putting only 10 defenders on the field on a Dalvin Cook 70-yard TD run. It feels like the wheels are fully coming off of this experiment, and the future is not only already written, but written in stone.

Minnesota Vikings Blues Beater

We talk about the situation for the Lions, their coaching staff, the front office, and the players. We spend some time focusing on Matthew Stafford and try to read the tea leaves about his future. There are definitely questions that need to be answered in this space, and in typical Lions fashion, none of the answers are good one. Worry not though, despite the many requests during the 24-hour podcast-a-thon for St. Jude, Chris would not take donations for drinks – he wanted to be sure he could make it. This time, since the show is only an hour long, Chris went in on the Jägermeister and raised more money for St. Jude – at one point almost drowning himself thanks to a technical glitch along the way. The laughs are definitely worth your time.

Ep: 301 – Lions On To Minnesota Vikings – Detroit Lions Podcast Nov 05, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Case, and Jeff Risdon take you through the Lions loss against the Indianapolis Colts, look ahead to the Minnesota Vikings, and talk through the Matthew Stafford Covid/Reserve situation. We also prep you for Friday’s 24-hour Detroit Lions Podcast-a-thon for St. Jude. We have a number of great guests joining us for the show, you will definitely want to join us for that. It all starts at 9:00 am EST at DetroitLionsPodcast.com

The Minnesota Vikings Are Beatable

Even after their big win against Green Bay, the Minnesota Vikings have flaws. Both of their games against the Green Bay Packers were shoot outs with total scores of at least 50 points. That being said, they have lost to the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons on the way to their 2-5 record. There is also the great match-up of the Lions Everson Griffen vs. Riley Reiff of the Minnesota Vikings. No matter the outcome of the game, that should be a fun match-up to watch for Lions fans.

We discuss the possibility of Matthew Stafford playing for the Lions after his trip to the Reserve/Covid list. It is possible, and there are some interesting logistics involved, but it’s still a possibility that Matthew Stafford plays. The good news is that if we have to play Chase Daniel instead of Matthew Stafford, he’s a 2-0 against the Minnesota Vikings, no reason this team shouldn’t be able to help him get to a 3-0 record.

Ep: 300 – Indianapolis Colts Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast Nov 02, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman take a look back at the Lions and Indianapolis Colts game. We talked about this game being a real test of the team, and frankly, the Lions failed against the Indianapolis Colts. It was a low energy, game in which the Indianapolis Colts overwhelmed the Lions in the trenches and set the tone for the entire game. While not pivotal to the game’s outcome, we got a nice dose of terrible officiating that we’ve become accustomed to over the years.

Indianapolis Colts Beat The Lions Up!

It all happened in the trenches. The offensive and defensive lines for the Indianapolis Colts just dominated the Lions this week. It was a clinic on how important an offensive and defensive line are in the NFL. Matthew Stafford was hit/sacked a number of times, and never looked very comfortable in the pocket. Couple that with a team that just couldn’t find energy and you get the shellacking that the Lions received today. We talked about this game being a statement game for the Lions, and the statement they made was unintelligible.

Ep: 299 – Indianapolis Colts Game Preview – Detroit Lions Podcast Oct 30, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Tony “TO” Ortiz take a look ahead at the Lions and Indianapolis Colts game. This game is a real test of the Lions and whether their trajectory is real, or they just came out on top of a couple of really bad teams. The Indianapolis Colts are looking to increase their record to 5-2 with a win over the Lions. Injury report, scouting the match-ups, and keys to the game are here to help you get ready for the game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Detroit Lions Podcast Asks Tony Ortiz About Everson Griffen!

So at the end of the show, we discuss Everson Griffen coming to the Lions and what he means to the defense. Will Everson Griffen improve the defense at 32 years old, or is he on the down slope of his career and only adding to a less than effective Lions rush? Who will be the biggest beneficiaries of the Everson Griffen signing? We’ll let you know and help you set the right expectations when Everson Griffen takes the field against the Minnesota Vikings

Indianapolis Colts Are Next

The highly touted Indianapolis Colts Offensive line is coming to Ford Field, and they hope to start pushing the Lions around right away. With the Indianapolis Colts Center Ryan Kelly not practicing and being listed as “Questionable”, the Lions might just get a break and have an opportunity to use that injury in their favor. Vegas favors the Colts at -3, but there’s more to it than just that. We’ll dive in and help you with the betting lines as well

Ep: 298 – Everson Griffen + Indianapolis Colts – Detroit Lions Podcast Oct 28, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case break the news moments after it occurs – The Detroit Lions have traded for Everson Griffen. Obviously, big news for the team, so we cover it twice. We also discuss the wide receiver corps and look at an advanced stats view of player performance. We also discuss the running back room, Lions defense, and remaining strength of schedule in the NFC North. We also take a brief look ahead to the Indianapolis Colts.

Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Everson Griffen Trade!

Huge news broke as we were going live with today’s show. The Detroit Lions have traded a conditional sixth round pick to the Dallas Cowboys, and have picked up Everson Griffen in return. For a song and a tad over $3 million the Detroit Lions have significantly upgraded their pass rush with Everson Griffen, who is certain to make the players around him better. We’ll talk about how he helps the team and when we will finally see him. The best news? We’ve got him twice against a team that tossed him to the trash heap. That should be fun.

Indianapolis Colts Get Shorter Time

With the breaking Everson Griffen news, we don’t get to give the full treatment to the Indianapolis Colts game. We do discuss what to look for, and how the Lions defense should attack Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Phillip Rivers. A key match-up we discuss is the Lions defensive front against the Indianapolis Colts offensive line. That is going to be a battle all day, the Colts o-line is one of the best, and will likely signal which team is having the most success. A win against the Indianapolis Colts would do a lot for the Lions confidence and help atone for early season difficulties.

Ep: 297 – Atlanta Falcons Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast Oct 26, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman kick off celebration Sunday after a great Lions win over the Atlanta Falcons. The Atlanta Falcons were a good test for a Lions team who needs to string a few wins together to have any hope of making this season relevant. For Matt Patricia, the Atlanta Falcons could very well have had his career in their hands. Instead, the Lions walk away with a win.

The Atlanta Falcons Defense showed up!

This game against the Atlanta Falcons was widely expected to be a shoot-out, with neither defense garnering a whole lot of respect around the league. The Lions were able to bring the defense that showed itself in Jacksonville on the trip to Atlanta, and the Falcons stepped up to ensure the Lions didn’t have an easy day of it. The result was a score that came in under the Vegas O/U by 15 points. The Atlanta Falcons are definitely a better team than their record shows, but for two away games in a row, the Lions were able to cinch up and walk away with a win. On different note, that’s coach Matt Patricia’s first two-win streak since he started coaching the Lions.

Detroit Lions Podcast Sees A Test Against The Colts

The Lions have been on a great trajectory since the bye week, two wins and a lot of hop starting to come back. The Indianapolis Colts will provide the next test, a better team than both Atlanta and Jacksonville, this feels like the Lions are marching toward the next boss in your favorite video game. Slowly escalating difficulty coupled with a need for an increased level of play to find success. Are the Lions up to the task? Three of the last four games of the season will present a series of boss battles that may determine more than just the playoff fate of this team…

Ep: 296 – Atlanta Falcons Game Preview – Detroit Lions Podcast Oct 24, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Jeff Risdon, and Tony Ortiz preview player performances and take a look ahead to the game against the Atlanta Falcons. As a team who played unexpectedly well last week, the Atlanta Falcons are looking to build on their success after firing coach Dan Quinn and GM Thomas Dimitroff following their 0-5 start.

The Atlanta Falcons Aren’t A Good Team!

They aren’t terrible either. The situation with the Atlanta Falcons front office changes last week wasn’t a case of an owner giving up on their coach and management, it was more a “we need to change things up because they just aren’t working anymore.” The Atlanta Falcons players reacted to the front office shakeup strongly and rushed out to a strong lead against the Vikings early before almost giving up the game in the 4th. We don’t expect them to suddenly rise to greatness, but there are some good players on that team who the Lions need to account for. We discuss that, what the Lions need to do to pull out a victory, and who to look for along the way.

Detroit Lions Podcast Predicts A Surprising Outcome

We discuss the emergence of the Atlanta Falcons interim coach Raheem Morris and how the players are fighting for him to take the role of permanent Head Coach of the team. We also share our thoughts on important match-ups during the game, Lions keys to the game, the Vegas line, and predict potential outcomes. The Lions are facing an interesting opponent in the Atlanta Falcons this week, and both teams’ season could pivot on the outcome on Sunday.

Ep: 295 – Lions On To The Atlanta Falcons – The Detroit Lions Podcast Oct 21, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case take a look at the Lions season so far, breakdown player performances and take a look ahead to the game against the Atlanta Falcons. As a team who played unexpectedly well last week, the Atlanta Falcons are looking to build on their success after firing coach Dan Quinn and GM Thomas Dimitroff following their 0-5 start.

Atlanta Falcons Aren’t A Good Team!

The situation with the Atlanta Falcons wasn’t a case of a team giving up on their coach and management, it was more a “we need to change things up because they just aren’t working any more.” The Atlanta Falcons reacted to the news/situation as though it was a wake up call. We don’t expect them to suddenly rise to greatness, but there are some good players on that team who the Lions need to account for. We discuss that, and what to expect.

Detroit Lions Podcast Sees An Easier Road Ahead For The Team

We discuss the improvement of Matthew Stafford, the emergence of D’Andre Swift, Jarrad Davis and his new found success, and the emergence of a defensive pass rush. All things we needed to see from the Lions, and that we absolutely need to continue against the Atlanta Falcons. We cover all of that including the excellent run blocking and terrible rush ranking paradox facing the team.

Ep: 294 – Jacksonville Jaguars Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast Oct 18, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman help Lions fans celebrate the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Lions were able to play very well in all three phases of the game, which is not something we see very often from this team, and logged a convincing victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Is this something to look forward to, or was it a flash against a terrible team?

Jacksonville Jaguars Aren’t A Good Team!

There is an obvious argument that the Jacksonville Jaguars aren’t a good football team. Many Lions fans follow with, “this win is meaningless because the Jags stink!” While this may be true, the Jacksonville Jaguars are an NFL team with NFL-caliber talent. The Lions didn’t eke out a win, nor did they seem to struggle at any point. If you were to see this score in a Packers/Jaguars game, you’d feel that was “right”. Take the win and enjoy it, the Lions played well.

Detroit Lions Podcast Still Has Questions

With that there are questions that we will need to start asking right after victory Monday. Questions like, “Is Matthew Stafford back?” “Was this defensive showing the result of game plan, or has a real adjustment been made in the bye week?” “Will we see this defense again?” “Is D’Andre Swift really as good as he looked?” There are a lot of things to think about and a second watch this week will help. Great win from the Lions, hope to see this continue.

Ep: 293 – Jacksonville Jaguars Preview – Detroit Lions Podcast Oct 16, 2020

Show notes

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Jeff Risdon, and Tony Ortiz get together to preview the Detroit Lions upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Lions have a lot of similar issues to the Jacksonville Jaguars, a struggling defense, a 1-3 record, and a fan base that is ready for a coaching change.

Jacksonville Jaguars Coaching Struggles

This could be a pivotal game for both teams, and might be the final nail in the coffin for the coach whose team comes away the loser. It may turn into a battle between to see which coach still has their players on board. As I often do, I’m putting my money on the Lions to take this game and the Jacksonville Jaguars to be the one’s taking action in relieving their coach of his duties.

Detroit Lions Podcast Previews

Tony Ortiz and Jeff Risdon make a great case for a Lions win this week, whether Lions fans want it or not. The Lions are heading into a stretch of very winnable games, and while it isn’t anyone’s prediction, the New York Giants won a Super Bowl with a 9-7 team that no one thought had any business even making the playoffs. As crazy as 2020 has been, it might not hurt to let your mind imagine the insanity for a bit. That’s on you though, it never comes up in the show.
