Improvising Your Book and Your Story with Ben Winter Aug 04, 2021
    Show notes

Ben Winter's biggest passion is exploring the mind. In all of his personal growth work, the one constant was that it all stems from the mind. Between personal growth and improv, he found this weird realm called expectations. And while most people would shy away from such a thing, he decided to tackle it head-on. Along his journey, he decided that "the only reason anyone gets upset is because an expectation hasn't been met." Ben began teaching that in his Success Improv business. He took everything that he had explored on the subject and put it in his bookWhat to Expect when Having Expectations. Ben has also written several books about improv and living unscripted.

    Ben's Tips:

    1. Just start.
    2. Don't worry about the size of the book.
    3. Seek help.
    4. Find a writing group to keep you accountable.

To learn more about or connect with Ben, visit the Success Improv or Having Expectations website.

Embracing Words to Impact The Future with Maya Middlemiss Jul 30, 2021
    Show notes

Maya Middlemiss taught herself to develop and manage what turned out to be a fully remote working team, in an era when this was still very unusual – and when the communications and collaboration technology infrastructure seemed unthinkably prehistoric, compared with the present day. She writes about subjects from collaboration platforms to cryptocurrency, and writes and podcasts regularly for London-based remote work consultancy Virtual Not Distant, as well as writing for UC Today, and a range of other brands and publications.

She has written a novel about bitcoin, Beyond the Chain, as well as several others. Despite her passion for all things technological, Maya is also a big advocate for unplugging from all of it regularly – immersing herself in the enjoyment of travel, hiking, music, yoga, and all that her chosen home has to offer. So if she's not at her desk or on her phone, you'll find her on the beach or halfway up a mountain somewhere… Where all her best creative ideas seem to happen.

    Maya's Tips:

    1. Don't wait for permission. Anyone can do it.
    2. Take action.
    3. There are no book police.
    4. Be organized with your time.
    5. Treat your work as something with value.
    6. Get to know your needs and rhythms, so you will know when you are most productive.

To learn more about or connect with Maya, visit the Healthy Happy Homeworking website. You can also join her Free Facebook group for people working from home here.

The HR Lady Writes A Book with Brenda Neckvatal Jul 28, 2021
    Show notes

Brenda Neckvatal began her journey in human resources as a spout. Her journey wasn't one of instant success. Far from it in fact. Once she came to that realization that a career in HR was for her, she turned to her own corporate HR team and told them she wanted to grow into a higher role and was ready to take on her next challenge. Crickets. Nobody was willing to take Brenda under their wing and help her reach her dream. So she did it herself. She watched others, read, asked question, tried new things, and went back to school.

She did it, and now she is teaching women and men how to be successful in dealing with their really hard people problems, reminding them that they aren't alone working in a HR department of one, and reminding them they have options when they feel optionless. Those needing her help can work with her directly or learn from Best Practices in Human Resources: How to Claw Your Way from Want-to-Be to VP.

    Brenda's Tips:

    1. Get out of your own way. Just write the book!
    2. Have the confidence to do it alone.
    3. Be okay with not being perfect. It is okay to make mistakes.
    4. You're gonna have haters. Just be genuine.
