Will World War III be fought with biological and computer viruses? Aug 01, 2023

Show notes

Authorities discovered an unlicensed lab in Fresno County, California, where the CDC found at least twenty potentially infectious agents, including coronavirus, HIV, hepatitis, and herpes. The biotech company reportedly has ties to China. Counselors say we are “living through one of the most stressful periods in American history.” In such anxious times, why are so many Americans opting out of church when the community of the church and the truth of God’s word are actually what we need?

US hunting Chinese malware that could disrupt our military operations and daily lives Jul 31, 2023

Show notes

China has hidden malicious computer code deep inside networks controlling our power grids, communication systems, and water supplies that feed our military bases in the US and around the world. Officials acknowledge that they do not know the full extent of the malware’s presence in networks around the world, in part because it is so well hidden. An amoral worldview pervades much of Chinese culture—the same rejection America’s secularized culture now embraces and demands. As a Christian, how can you stand up to this immoral maelstrom?

Is the government lying about UFOs? What aliens could teach us about our faith Jul 28, 2023

Show notes

A former intelligence officer and two former fighter pilots told Congress this week that the government is lying to us about UFOs, complete with claims that they have collected aircraft and “biologics” of a “nonhuman” origin. Whether you are inclined to believe those claims or not, let’s take a moment and assume that they were true. How would that impact your faith? The answer can give important insight into the state of your relationship with God.

Is a spiritual recession God’s judgment on our nation? Jul 27, 2023

Federal Reserve officials raised interest rates yesterday to their highest level in twenty-two years, causing many to ask if a recession is coming. More pressing questions might be: Is a spiritual recession coming? Is it already here? If so, what can we do to respond? Changing Twitter to X and $4,000 sorority consultants: When perception becomes reality Jul 26, 2023

Show notes

Elon Musk has changed Twitter’s name to X, possibly erasing billions in value. And parents are hiring $4,000 sorority consultants to help their daughters dress and impress during rush. Protests rock Israel as legislature curbs Supreme Court Jul 25, 2023

Show notes

Yesterday, Israel’s parliament ratified the first bill of a judicial overhaul sought by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, setting off demonstrations and protests across the country. The bill takes away the Israeli Supreme Court’s ability to nullify government decisions it finds “unreasonable in the extreme.”

Supporters say this power was nebulous and enabled liberal judges to overturn the will of the electorate. Critics say the overhaul would reduce judicial oversight over the cabinet and give the government greater powers without necessary accountability.

A political scientist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem calls the conflict “a clash between the Israelis and the Jews,” with the Israelis representing the founders who envisioned a secular Zionist state and the Jews representing those who want to rebuild the Jewish kingdom that reigned over the land two thousand years ago.

“It’s a clash between a more civil identity and a more religious identity,” he adds.

Should this sound familiar to Americans?

Why I refuse to see “Oppenheimer”—and you should, too Jul 24, 2023

Show notes

The inclusion of scenes with explicit sex and nudity in “Oppenheimer” ought to make it off-limits to Christians who choose to follow biblical teachings on lust. However, avoiding the film, while vital for followers of Christ, is only one step in a broken culture that surrounds us daily with pervasive immorality. How are we to “put to death whatever is earthly” (Col. 3:5) in us?

“Birthing people” and AI chat clones: Responding to “an increasingly bizarre present” Jul 19, 2023

Show notes

An article on the increase in births in Texas due to its enacted abortion ban in September 2021 refers to “pregnant individuals” and “birthing people” rather than using the word “women.” In other news, a lifestyle influencer is charging her followers $1/hour to chat with her AI clone. In this “increasingly bizarre present,” how should Christians pursue spiritual growth?
