Don't Let Substance Abuse Sneak Up on Your Kids with Richard Capriola Apr 15, 2022
    Show notes

What can we do as parents to prevent our kids or at least lower the chances of them getting into drugs and alcohol and even other addictions? If you're listening to this podcast, then you are a dad who is always curious on how to elevate your game. Curiosity can be the best resource for us and help our kids to guide them to make the best decisions possible. And quite honestly, when it comes to children, dealing with addiction, drugs and alcohol and all kinds of other things, sometimes the warning signs are right in our faces and we just don't see them.

My guest today is Richard Capriola. He spent 11 years working as an addictions counselor for Menninger Clinic in Houston Texas before retiring in 2019. Menninger Clinic is one of the top ten psychiatric hospitals in the United States and specializes in the assessment, stabilization and treatment of adults and adolescents with substance abuse and psychiatric disorders. During his tenure there he worked in the Adolescent Treatment program and the adult Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment and Stabilization program. Working closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and nurses he was responsible for comprehensive assessments and individual and group counseling with patients diagnosed with substance use disorders.

His job with Menninger Clinic was a second career. Prior to joining Menninger, he spent 30 years working for the Illinois State Board of Education where he was a lobbyist, communications and external relations manager and special assistant to the State Superintendent of Education. After retiring from the State of Illinois in 2004 he worked as a mental health crisis counselor in central Illinois until he joined Menninger in 2008.

Now retired, he lives with his wife in Katy, Texas, a suburb of Houston. He enjoys reading, writing, traveling, and spending time with family who live in Texas and on both coasts. He has one son, two stepchildren and four grandchildren.

    Show notes

I am just gonna break it to you. For all you thinking that are seeking work-life balance, it doesn't exist. There, I said it. However what we can have is work-life integration or optimization. Life will bring a lot of uncertainty and we must be ready for those diverse circumstances and the best way to do it is by learning the needed skills that make us incredibly effective and efficient within our business, marriage, parenting, finances, our health, leading yourself and others in your life.

My guest today is Jerry DePizzo, principal member of the rock band O.A.R..Over the past 25 years they've sold millions in albums, streams and tickets, including a sold-out performance at Madison Square Garden.

Navigating Through Modern Parenthood with Nikki Pauli and Shane Fuller Apr 08, 2022
    Show notes

Shane and Nikki are both parents to four kids and love it (almost all the time). Through their personal and professional experiences they've realized how desperate parents are to do the best for their kids. It's just that sometimes we find ourselves in moments or situations that scare us or catch us off guard. There are constantly times we feel unsure of what to say or how to handle something that comes up with our kids. Out of their desire to see parents flourish they created helpful, practical, shame-free, and efficient courses to prepare you for some of the most challenging moments parenting can throw your way.

Nikki has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor working with children, teens, adults, and families for 15 years. She also works for LEAPT training play therapists and is an adjunct instructor for Mental Health and Social Work masters students.

She is passionate about walking with and helping families and believes the family unit is where we first learn to belong and how to navigate the world.

Shane Fuller has an MDiv and is working on his MA in Mental Health Counseling. Having four kids with his incredible wife, Brynn, really got him interested in learning everything he could about parenting.

What he loves about working with people and creating resources is helping parents feel more sure of themselves. Ultimately, he wants as many parents as possible to be at peace with themselves and how they've chosen to lean into the hard stuff in life.

Gut Punch Moments with Lee Baucom Apr 04, 2022
    Show notes

In marriage, one of the hardest things is having these gut punch moments where our partner tells us something we aren't ready for, that can even bring us to question every single thing about the relationship. My guest today helps couples overcome those challenges.

Lee Baucom, Ph.D. is a 22 year veteran of marriage therapy. His training has been in marriage and family therapy, earning two Master's degrees and a Ph.D. in the area. He has also completed specialty training in Community Building, as well as in Personal and Life Coaching.

Lee is an experienced facilitator of health and healing for individuals, couples, families, and organizations. This experience has given Lee a different perspective on why couples have problems, and what the solutions are for these problems.

From the beginning, Lee was committed to making relationships work. It is his contention that most relationships are salvageable, and that many take the "easy way out," rather than finding a workable solution that preserves the relationship, leaving the relationship healthy and individuals happy.

Lee has been happily married for 22 years, and has two children. Lee is devoted to his family, and sees that as inspiration for his own work with families trying to find health.

In addition to family time, in his off-hours, Lee enjoys trail running, mountain biking, and scuba diving. He also pursues flyfishing and is an avid reader with a great deal of curiosity about a number of diverse fields.
