The Cryptid Keeper

Latest Episodes:

Episode 10- Kelpies Apr 30, 2017

Show notes

How many times do we have to say this? Don't go in the water right after eating, and stop riding strange horses by the seaside. Just stop it. This week's cryptid rises from the Scottish deep (no, it's not my dear friend Nessie) and wreaks sticky havoc. Join us (and some friends of the show/horse experts) as we discuss Kelpies, the Scottish Murder Horse too intense for the My Little Pony franchise.

Episode 9- The Bunyip Apr 23, 2017

Show notes

Let's take a trip down under, to the land of wombats and kangaroos, of giant spiders and drop bears. This week's cryptid takes us to the Australian Outback (not the steakhouse) as we discuss the Bunyip. Don't understand the Bunyip? Don't worry, by the end of this episode you probably still won't. But you'll still have fun and learn a lot about a cryptid with a massive identity crisis and a thriving children's literature career.

Episode 8- Minnesota Cryptids (ft. Wine and Crime) Apr 16, 2017

Two of the hosts of the podcast Wine and Crime join us for this very special episode where we cover the Pukwudgie, the Minnesota Dogman, and a host of midwestern strangeness. Pop open a bottle of wine and come along with us on the Cryptid Brunch you never knew you needed.

Episode 7- Kappa Apr 09, 2017

Show notes

Come on in, the water's fine! Don't mind the shadows lurking beneath the surface, it's just this week's cryptid! Slice up some cucumber snacks and throw on a bathing suit you don't mind ruining, then dive in with us as we learn about the Kappa! We'll be your lifeguards as we discuss the Kappa Pop Culture Empire, mummified hands, and the place where etiquette meets a watery grave.

Episode 5- The Beast of Bray Road Mar 26, 2017

You're driving down a winding road in small-town Wisconsin, late at night, and your headlights catch something as it darts in front of you. What's that? America's Sexiest Cryptid. Find out just what makes the Beast of Bray Road SO irresistible as we discuss werewolf lore, Jason Momoa, Cryptid Missed Connections, and more.

Episode 4- Faeries Mar 19, 2017

Show notes

In honor of St. Patrick's Day weekend, we bring you a particularly Neighborly episode of The Cryptid Keeper. Clap your hands if you believe in faeries! Tune in as we discuss Irish Folklore, Liberfaerians, and the most complicated court system outside of the Law and Order franchise.

Episode 3- Hidebehinds Mar 12, 2017

Show notes

What's that behind you? Don't look now, but I think it's a Brand New Episode. This week, we cover the mysterious forest-dwelling predator that is the Hidebehind. Just what is out there in the forests of Wisconsin and/or Pennsylvania? Why is Alex so mad about Scooby Doo? What's the Hip New Exercise craze about to sweep the nation? Tune in to find out. Episode 2- Tailypo Mar 05, 2017

Show notes

What's that scratching at your door? A brand new episode! If you hear background noise in this episode, don't worry! That's just this week's cryptid, a furry friend with a taste for vengeance, and the star of folk tales, short films, fanfiction, and a very ill-advised children's book. Join us as we dive into Tailypo survival tips, the cryptid's Deviantart presence, and Addison's deeply repressed Tailypo-related childhood trauma.

The Cryptid Keeper Episode 1- Skinwalkers Feb 26, 2017

Show notes

The episode that used to be here has been taken down. Since this original episode was recorded, we’ve learned that it was disrespectful, hurtful, and appropriative of Native cultures. We wanted to take the episode down so it would not be able to hurt anyone else, and we wanted to leave a placeholder up, for an explanation and for accountability. We can’t erase the harm that was caused by our ignorance, but we can and will do whatever we can to prevent doing more harm going forward. Thank you.
