These are all things that at some point, you’re going to be thinking about or confronted by in your business. What to think about when closing your business + exiting your business [0:25:20]
At some point, you mentor enough people, you are going to mentor someone into your shoes. In this world of community over competition, one of your clients is going to take it too far.
Just because you’re right, doesn’t mean that you’re not going to have to pay to respond to all these people or pay legal fees because people can really make a big fuss and it ends up costing you money.

— Chloe Burch
Bio:
We make precious things - items of quality and beauty - that are to be used for years. We believe that great design stirs our emotional connection to a product. That mark of luxury is not its price or a logo - it it the inherent beauty, quality and usefulness of something special and worth keeping. Luxury should never be out of reach. We have sought to create a line of handbags and shoes that redefines luxury. Based in New York City, Neely & Chloe is the eponymous creation of sisters Neely and Chloe Burch. Having graduated in 2013 and 2014 respectively, both sisters began a career in the fashion industry. Neely retrofitted a vintage Airstream trailer into a pop up boutique to travel the country’s rural and suburban college campuses, while Chloe cut her teeth at J. Crew as a merchant. Through these endeavours the sisters saw an opportunity to reimagine an archaic industry that encouraged low quality, unsustainable fast fashion. They found there was a void to be filled between affordable accessories and luxury brands. By renouncing the traditional retail model and selling exclusively to customers direct, Neely & Chloe are able to invest in quality, trust in design and believe that you deserve more.

Trust that when you go out there with that energy and actually talk about things you want to talk about, not talk about things that you think other people wanted you to talk about, because that never goes any place good. When you do that, then people get behind your energy and your enthusiasm.
Bringing in your passions and your guilty pleasures, whatever feels fun for you is really crucial for business.

Storytelling has been a real important part of growing my brand in addition to having true passion about what I’m doing because again as I mentioned it’s a labor of love.
— Marisa Arredono
Bio:
PHACE BIOACTIVE® is the first line of pH Optimized Skin Care®. Each original formula is designed for maximum absorption and efficacy, and to preserve your skin's delicate pH balance. The philosophy and treatments are grounded in decades of clinical research, and as a result of personal experience and years of development. PHACE BIOACTIVE® has been a labor of love for me. I had terrible cystic acne as a teen which lead me to experiment with anything and everything: buff puffs, soaps, scrubs, sulfur, benzoyl peroxide. Eventually I was prescribed antibiotics, retin-A, corticosteroid injections, and Accutane. The blemishes subsided for a period, only to return at age 22 as adult acne. I didn't know it at the time, but I was stripping my acid mantle with the alkaline topical cleansers, creams and exfoliants I was told to use, and I was actually exacerbating my symptoms, not to mention accelerating the visual marks of aging. And so began my quest for the perfect skin care system. After graduating from Stanford University, I worked as an analyst on Wall Street for 12 years to research and invest in cosmetic, drug and biotech companies. There, I learned about skin biology, ingredient technology, and pH balance as it relates to anti-aging. I engaged first hand with novel research and manufacturing practices, and developed a network of dermatologists and chemists I consult with. I also graduated from Harvard Business School, where I conceived the business plan for PHACE BIOACTIVE®. My mission is to educate women and men about the most effective ways to care for their skin; to inform, inspire, and instruct our growing community on a variety of skin care, cosmetic, and lifestyle issues, and to offer the most powerful and effective anti-aging skin care solutions. My wish for you is the happiness, relief, and confidence that comes with having healthy, radiant skin. Show your face, love your face, protect your pH™!

Then when people are honest with what they’re going through on the other end, people who’ve been there before, you know that you’ve been there before and maybe now you’re doing really well, don’t ever forget where you came from, because you didn’t just wake up and become a big time planner, or you didn’t just wake up and become award-winning photographer. There was a process that you went through.

if you don’t know where money is coming from or you don’t have any confidence that things are coming from particular revenue streams or when they are coming in, you really can’t have a sustainable business.
— Reina Pomeroy
Bio:
Hey everyone! My name is Magen (totally spelled correctly) and I am the calligrapher, owner, and operator of The Lefty Writer, LLC. Let's start with some background info first. I am 28 years young, (freaking out a bit about 30!), a happily married Christian wife and full-time stepmomma of two pre-teens, (Lord, send help!), a full-time airport employee and part-time student, (hectic schedule alert?), a book nerd, (HP⚡️and G⚔️T foreva), and an unstoppable maker of all the things, ALL the things! (Seriously, Michael's should pay me to shop there.) I have always had nice and neat handwriting and always loved making my notebooks, planners, and bedroom wall signs pretty and organized. When I was fifteen I begged my mom to buy me a quill feather and a bottle of ink so I could write like Harry Potter - it didn't work out so well, and I didn't have Google or YouTube or any internet really to teach myself properly. So, I tucked away my feather and ink and settled for using good ol pencils and pens to maintain my handwriting until I reached my twenties. That's when I stumbled upon some calligraphy videos online and decided to seriously discipline and teach myself. Fast-forward to today! I have officially been in business for one full year, and I am working my butt off to turn this love of mine into both my passion and my full-time income. I'm sure you've all heard that quote, "When you do what you love, you never work a day in your life." Well, that's not quite true. I am doing what I love and working my...well, you know, working my BEHIND off while doing it. The difference is I'm working because I love it. And in my opinion, that is the absolute best and most fulfilling feeling anyone can have in their career. And that, my friends, is where my story is headed. Totally #goals, right?!

How to become a worker on Freeeup + who would be a good fit [0:18:16]
How FreeeUp helps freelancers [0:25:53]
When you’re an entrepreneur, get away from your computer for a day and go make a list of everything you do on a day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month basis, and then put it in order from easiest to hardest. Start taking the easiest stuff off your plate. Even if it’s an hour or two a day, just get those hours back so you can focus on expansion.
I think people can use contractors way more than they could before. I kind of mentioned this that I had this realization a while ago. But if you’re just hiring from your town and the towns around you, you’re so limited into the talent you have access to.

I’m just illustrating a point and that sometimes it’s better to be work expedient and do the efficient thing as a business owner than it is to follow every single rule that’s possibly out there to a tee. If there’s going to be something that comes around and bites you on the butt, you’re going to deal with it at some point and that’s going to happen no matter what in your business.
