Drafting college football's sure things for the 2023 season Apr 07, 2023
    Show notes

On this episode of The College Football Survivor Show, Doug Lesmerises and Shehan Jeyarajah draft the 10 sure-thing teams in college football under their points formula, and they revisit the last time they did it.

The formula is this: A point for making a conference title game, another point for winning it, a point for making the playoff, and another point for winning it all.

Georgia earned four points last year, Michigan three, and no other teams more than two.

So how did Doug and Shehan do drafting 20 teams under that formula in mid-October last season?

And which 10 teams are they drafting now for the fall?

This should tell you something about what we know and don't know when it comes to sure things in college football. Thanks for listening to The College Football Survivor Show.

How college football powers can win at basketball Mar 30, 2023
    Show notes

On this episode of The College Football Survivor Show, Doug Lesmerises and Shehan Jeyarajah are joined by Mike Rodak of AL.com. That's because the discussion centers on powers in college football and college basketball, and how those programs go about trying to be good at the opposite sport.

The discussion starts with Alabama and how the Crimson Tide, as a football power, was the No. 1 seed in basketball in the NCAA Tournament.

Then there's a look at football blue bloods who have managed to win at basketball at a high level -- including Michigan, Oklahoma and Ohio State.

Finally, the view is flipped and the talk turns to basketball powers like Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina and Indiana. What are their football histories and can they ever improve in that sport?

There's a lot of money, history and culture discussed when it comes to these two sports and the schools that play them best. Thanks for listening to The College Football Survivor Show.

College football Coach Swap -- Matching major coaches with new teams Mar 29, 2023
    Show notes

Two years ago, the ideas of Lincoln Riley at USC, Brian Kelly at LSU, Luke Fickell at Wisconsin, Mario Cristobal at Miami and Hugh Freeze at Auburn would have been fanciful.

Now they're real -- established coaches in new jobs.

On this episode of The College Football Survivor Show, Doug Lesmerises and Shehan Jeyarajah are playing coach swap and putting current coaches in new jobs.

Is it a new, interesting challenge for a coach? A needed boost for a program?

From Dabo Swinney, James Franklin and Jamey Chadwell, to Auburn, Iowa and Texas, Doug and Shehan have some new ideas for some new matches.

It's just a podcast game, but in a year or two, some of these could be real. Thanks for listening,

A Cinderella team will change college football in the 12-team playoff Mar 21, 2023
    Show notes

On this episode of The College Football Survivor Show, Doug Lesmerises and Shehan Jeyarajah look at the latest 16 seed upset of a No. 1 team in the NCAA basketball tournament and imagine what that would look like in a football context.

    Two things:

    1. It's definitely going to happen soon with a 5-12 game in the College Football Playoff when it expands starting in 2024.
    2. When it does happen, it will be great for college football and will change the sport.

To examine and explain that idea, Doug and Shehan look at what 5-12 matchups would have looked like the last nine years, debate how much of a chance those 12 seeds would have had, and discuss what college football is lacking when it comes to underdogs right now.
