Trust me…I was there. Black Friday was my time to buy gifts…for myself!

I would buy other people gifts too, but not going to lie – I shopped quite a bit for myself.

I want you to learn from my mistakes!

In this episode, I’m sharing 6 reasons not to go into debt during the holidays. It can be exhilarating to get caught up in the shopping swirl, but if it’s not under control, it’ll add up quickly.

Making the Mindset Shift from Spender to Saver Oct 21, 2024

If you’re new to the City Girl Savings community, then I need you to know that while I may be a finance coach and the founder of City Girl Savings, I was an avid spender before City Girl Savings came to be.

I put myself in situations where shifting from a spending mindset to a savings mindset was a necessity.

That means I know a thing or two about being an overspender. I also know a thing or two about being a saver.

So, when it comes to shifting from a spending mindset to a savings mindset, my guidance speaks volumes, because I’ve been there.

In this episode, I’m sharing how to make the shift from spender to saver. If you struggle with spending, you don’t want to miss this episode.

[02:10] Want to become a saver? Don’t wait until the worst-case scenario to happen before making the change.
[05:13] Over time, it will get easier to say “no” to things that don’t help you get towards your goals. Always remember your why.
[08:34] A trend with Raya’s clients is them not wanting to touch their savings. It’s okay to use savings when things come up – that’s what it’s there for!
[11:58] Spending money on experiences is always worth it for Raya, after security is taken care of.
[15:10] Let growing bank account balances fuel you. Eventually other financial milestones will fuel you to keep going.

Fall is my favorite season!

The weather is cooling down, pumpkin spice lattes are flowing, and the holidays are around the corner!

There are so many wonderful things that come with the fall season, so it’s only right that our budgets are adjusted accordingly.

In this episode, I’m sharing 5 budget adjustments to make for the fall season.

Since we know that fall and winter seasons come around the same time every year, establishing a process and routine to prepare your budget ahead of time can keep you on top of your financial goals!

6 Habits and Routines That Help Me Manage My Time Sep 30, 2024

One thing I pride myself on is my ability to manage my time and get things done.

I’ve always been the type of person who does what she says she’s going to do, and I keep my word to myself.

This has been extremely helpful in my career, but especially when working for myself.

Over time, I’ve identified the things that have had the biggest impact on my time management success.

In this episode, I’m sharing 6 habits and routines that play the biggest role in helping me manage my time.

[02:02] By 5:45am, Raya is up and getting ready to start her workout. Getting that done early in the day makes a huge difference.

[13:25] Raya tries to ensure all meetings and appointments are set at the same time every week or every other week.

Why the FIRE Movement is Too Extreme for Me Sep 23, 2024

Financial Independence, Retire Early (also known as FIRE) is a movement devoted to extreme saving and investing in the present so that a person can retire much earlier than the traditional retirement age of 65.

The Fire movement prioritizes saving and investing 50 to 70% of a person’s income, if not more, to ensure early retirement is possible.

In this episode, I’m breaking down the Fire movement in detail and sharing why it doesn’t work for me or my dream life.

My goal is to give you more context on the movement, along with my rationale for taking a softer approach in the present, even if it’s at the expense of an early retirement.

[04:38] Raya’s gives an example of how to identify your FIRE number by running through a scenario where a person’s expenses are $5000/month.

[14:00] Raya shares how people can invest – through a retirement plan and through a general investment account.

Is it just me, or does it feel like the older we get, the less time we seem to have?

Like the time we do have just flies by in the blink of an eye. I don’t even have kids yet, but I can imagine that time goes even faster when little ones are involved!

While we all get 24 hours in a day, it may not feel like time is evenly distributed.

If you struggle with time management or feeling productive with the time you do have, I want to help!

In this episode, I’m sharing 5 things you can do to give yourself more time back in the day. These hacks can help you feel like you have more time for yourself!

My Travel Bucket List and Destination Experiences Sep 09, 2024

If you know me, then you know I love to travel.

Long ago, when I was forced to identify my life’s priorities, I came to the realization that travel and new experiences would be something I always plan and budget for.

It would be something I would happily spend my money on (with a proper budget, of course) but enjoy with no regrets.

Since that realization, I’ve been to some amazing places, including 15 different countries. And I’ve seen almost all of the United States. I only have 14 more states to hit!

In this episode, I’m sharing some of my most memorable destination experiences and some places that are very high on my travel bucket list!

[04:20] Raya has been on planes regularly since she was an infant. She breaks down her earliest travel experiences.

How Managing My Money Has Boosted My Confidence Aug 26, 2024

I’ve been budgeting and managing my money for a long time.

I’ve learned so much about myself along the way, and finally getting into a rhythm with my money and budget has put me in the best financial place I’ve ever been in.

It’s hard to imagine anyone’s confidence not growing after that!

In this episode, I’m sharing how managing my money has boosted my confidence and allows me to take on opportunities I may not have taken.

I’m so proud of how far I’ve come, and while there’s still more to go, I’m fully confident in my abilities to get there.

[01:40] There was a point in time where Raya didn’t have confidence being in certain rooms. Managing her money has changed that.
[04:34] Raya has always been comfortable with risks. She shares an early experience of taking on a loan when she couldn’t afford the cost outright.
[08:59] One reason it took Raya so long to take CGS full-time was a fear of not making enough money on her own. Her confidence has since changed.
[12:45] 2023 was a year that resulted in a big income drop for Raya. Her ability to manage money gave her confidence to power through.
[15:50] Raya has always had a fear of “things going wrong” even when it seems unlikely. She shares how she worked through it.

6 Money Fears Hurting Your Success Aug 19, 2024

In simple terms, fear is the response to perceived physical or emotional danger.

Fear is your brain’s way of recognizing a threat and prompting you to protect yourself.

If we were in ancient times, our fear response would be necessary to keep us safe. Nowadays, not so much.

We’re not facing imminent danger like people were back then. Sure, there are other dangers that are present in our current times, and fear is absolutely appropriate in those situations.

However, there are other situations where fear isn’t warranted.

We just have to train our brains to not be fearful of those situations.

In this episode, I’m sharing 6 money fears hurting your success. My goal is to help you work through these fears and see what amazing things come out on the other side.

[02:41] Raya gives an example from her past where her fear response happened, but the situation truly didn’t call for it.
[06:35] Investing is one of the best ways to build long-term wealth. We have to take ownership of learning what to do when it comes to investing.
[11:31] If you’re not putting your cash in an account that’s generating interest, you’re losing money due to inflation.
[17:42] Hoarding money can be the result of a fear of something happening. This could keep you from making your money work best for you.
[22:14] The fear of spending money and not getting a tangible return in place can be extremely detrimental to your growth, in money and life.

Credit, when managed the right way, can help anyone take control of their money.

Leveraging credit can give you access to cash, save you money, and help you purchase things you otherwise wouldn’t be able to have.

That’s not to say that carrying balances and accumulating debt that you can’t pay back is a wise move, because it’s not!

However, there’s a difference between credit and debt.

That’s why I’m so excited to talk with Christina Roman from Experian about how people can master their money with credit.

The Pros and Cons of Renting Out Properties Jul 29, 2024

The rise of real estate investing in social media has been a popular topic of conversation…and for good reason.

There are a lot of amazing things that can come from real estate investing. There’s a lot of work that goes into it as well.

My brother and I have been managing rental properties since 2015.

For me, the goal is to build out a rental property portfolio.

In this episode, I’m sharing my personal experiences with renting out properties and the pros and cons of doing so.

2024 Mid-Year Personal and Business Goals Check In Jul 08, 2024

There was a point in my life where I would set big goals and not check-in on them.

I would keep them top of mind but only assess my progress once the goal time frame (typically one year) ended. Not anymore!

Now, I make it a point to assess my goal progress along the way.

This helps me course correct, make changes, or keep doing what’s working!

At the end of 2023, I shared my personal and business goals for 2024.

Now that we’re over the halfway mark of 2024, I want to share my progress! In this episode, I’m doing a mid-year personal and business goals check in!

I’m sharing my goal progress with you, in the hopes that you’re encouraged to do your own progress check.

[05:25] Another goal for Raya is to max out her Roth IRA. She shares that she isn’t on track with this goal as of now, but has confidence it will be achieved.

[13:40] Raya shares some events happening in the CGS community that can help reach the goal of 7500 Facebook Group members.
[16:25] While the business is not hitting a 50% increase in revenue, it is averaging 20%, which is still promising.

I was mesmerized – not only because I love to travel but because there’s a way to do it for free, essentially!

While I won’t be breaking down travel-hacking in detail, in this episode, I’m sharing how to use credit cards to fund your travel, almost like a beginner’s way to travel hack!

Once you have the starting point, you can always work your way up to more travel-hacking strategies!

[02:00] Use points from travel cards to book your travel. This is the easiest way to use credit cards to fund your vacations.
[05:15] Some companies have sales on points. Use this as an opportunity to stock up on points without spending money on other things.

[13:00] Looking for your first travel card? Google “the best travel credit cards” and compare your options.
[14:59] DO NOT CARRY A BALANCE. Travel hacking only works when you pay your credit card balance in full each month.

Budgeting Multiple Six Figures with CGS Client Rachel Jun 03, 2024

When Rachel and I first started working together in January 2021, she was making well-over six figures but didn’t have a clue about where it was going.

Fast forward 3 years later and Rachel is making more than ever, saving, and investing more than ever and doing it all with a solid budget plan.

In this episode, Rachel and I are discussing how growing and budgeting your income, whether you’re making six-figures or not, can completely transform your life and finances.

5 Life Lessons I Learned from My Mom May 13, 2024

Good or bad, we learn so much from our parents.

Whether we end up being just like them or the opposite, there’s no doubt that our parental interactions shape who we are as adults.

In honor of Mother’s Day and this one being the first one I celebrate without my mom, I wanted to take the time to share some of the biggest life lessons I’ve learned from her.

In this episode I’m sharing the most impactful life lessons learned from my mom.

I was lucky enough to be blessed with two amazing parents who just happened to leave my life earlier than I would have wanted.

[02:04] Raya’s mom lost her parents early in life also. Raya shares a little background on how her mom grew up and lost her parents.
[06:12] Even though Raya’s mom was struggling with a terminal illness, she never complained or had bouts of negativity. She was a true warrior.
[11:00] Raya shares a memory of her mom taking control of her weight. She got herself on a diet and was able to lose a lot of weight through consistency.
[15:55] Growing up, Raya and her brother heard “no” a lot from their mom. Raya’s mom was never afraid to say no to buying things they didn’t need.
[19:05] Raya’s mom didn’t need to worry about money or finances later in life. She had what she needed to cover everything throughout her health battle.

Financial Education versus Financial Experiences Apr 15, 2024

My degree is in finance, but it wasn’t until I had learned from terrible money experiences that things started to improve.

Seriously, from 18-21, I was going to class every day, learning about money and finance and analysis, but after school, I was out spending money and accumulating debt.

I was not implementing a drop of what I’d learned and in hindsight, I’ve realized that there is so much more to money than knowing what to do with it.

Our thoughts, experiences, influences, and society all play a role.

In this episode, I’m sharing why you don’t need a formal education in finance to become financially independent.

I’m also sharing how financial experiences can mold a life of financial security.

How I Paid Off My Dream Car (Lexus RX350) Apr 08, 2024

I paid off my dream car! OMG!

It was one of my goals for 2024 and I got it done first thing.

Mostly because I was so close to being done with the loan (I had about a year and a half left) and because I wanted to add my car payment back into my budget for 2024.

So, I got it done!

In this episode, I’m sharing how I was able to purchase my dream car (the Lexus RX350) brand new and pay it off early.

I also want to give you a little background on my history with cars.

How I Grew My Business While Working Full Time in Corporate Mar 25, 2024

City Girl Savings launched January 1st 2015, but I didn’t end up going full-time until May of 2021.

That’s nearly 6 and a half years where I was working in corporate while trying to grow this business.

As I say that, I wonder how I got it done and still found time to travel, see friends and family, and focus on my health.

It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.

In this episode, I’m sharing how I grew the City Girl Savings business while working full time in corporate America.

Intentional Spending Ideas to Feel Fulfilled Feb 26, 2024

Money doesn’t buy happiness. I firmly believe that. But, I also believe that money buys you options…and having the option is what breeds happiness.

Having the option to take a trip, bless a family member, leave your job, start a family, and so much more. Money makes those things easier.

Money allows you to have more and more options.

Now, while I don’t think money buys happiness, I do think there are certain things you can spend your money on and feel genuinely fulfilled.

In this episode, I’m sharing a few intentional spending ideas that will leave you feeling fulfilled and happy as a clam!

Let me add that you may not be in a position to spend your money on these things now, but definitely keep them in your back pocket for the future.

How I Protect My Peace and Why It’s So Important Feb 12, 2024

As I’ve gotten older, I realize there’s nothing more important than my peace…and protecting it at all costs.

I used to spend time with people who thrived on gossip and drama, until I realized how much of my personal energy that time cost me.

Now, I limit my time and interaction with people, places and things that drain my energy. I also set firm boundaries on protecting my mental wellbeing, and while it’s not always easy, it does get better over time.

In this episode, I’m sharing the different ways I’ve come to learn to protect my peace and how it’s made a huge difference in my life.

Have you ever wondered what a money coach gives and asks for Christmas?

Well, you’ll learn today! While I love every holiday following the Fall season, Christmas holds a special place in my heart.

Growing up, it was a time of the year that brought so much joy – not because of the gifts, but just the energy from that time of year.

I would sit at home, alone, watching Christmas cartoons, just sitting next to the lit-up Christmas tree and would feel pure bliss.

As an adult, I still feel bliss sitting next to the tree!

In this episode, I’m sharing what Christmas is like as a money coach – the things I give and what I usually ask for.

[09:04] A rule of thumb in Raya’s family for spending money on Christmas gifts is to stay within $100 per person for gifts.

My Personal and Business Goals for 2024 Dec 18, 2023

You may remember I did an episode at the end of 2022, sharing my personal and business goals for 2023.

I got such great feedback on that episode, that I decided to do another one sharing my 2024 goals!\

As you probably know, during the last quarter of every year, I like to sit down and set my personal and business goals for the next year.

I usually reflect on the progress of my current goals and that lets me identify what I need to tweak for the new goals I plan to set.

I don’t always reach every goal I set, and sometimes I exceed my goals.

But what never stops is me setting or working towards goals.

In this episode, I’m sharing my personal and business goals for 2024. I’m also giving you an update on my 2023 goals!

[13:35] Following in last year’s footsteps. City Girl Savings has a goal of hitting 10,000 newsletter subscribers for the 2024 year.
[16:00] 2023 was a heavy year for Raya. The focus for 2024 is to work hard but to not lose sight of her mental health along the way.

If you practice gratitude on a regular basis, then you know that things will always be okay.

No matter how bad something is, there’s this light at the end of the tunnel.

You appreciate the good times, you learn from the bad times, and you stay humble.

It’s a magical thing.

If you don’t practice gratitude on a regular basis, you may find that things always seem bad.

Nothing ever seems to go right. Nothing goes according to plan.

There’s a solution: gratitude.

In this episode, I’m sharing 6 ways gratitude leads to a richer life and how you can start practicing gratitude ASAP!

Have you ever noticed that when you focus on the positive, more positive things seem to happen? On the flip side, when you focus on the negative, more negative things seem to happen. Almost as if what you focus on becomes your reality.

Well, the mind is a powerful tool. When you practice gratitude, you’re almost forced to look at the positive. The more you focus on it, the more positive things there are to find.

If you’re not sure how to go about practicing gratitude, start by writing down 5 things you’re grateful for everyday! They can be the same things, new things, small things or big things!

As you become consistent, you’ll notice your natural state of thinking will be to show appreciation for things that happen to you.

Adversity Breeds Resilience: How I Handle Hard Times Nov 20, 2023

Just 3 months before you’re listening to this episode, my sweet, kind, genuine mom, my last parent passed away.

She had been terminally ill for years and it finally took her.

10 years before that, my dad was killed by a drunk driver at 4 in the afternoon on a road he’d driven on just about daily for 25 years.

Those are two of the worst things that have ever happened to me.

And unfortunately, there were a lot of hard things that happened in between.

But you know what? I’m still standing.

In this episode, I’m sharing why I 100% believe that adversity breeds resilience and how I have been able to get through some of the worst times of my life.

My hope is that this episode encourages you to keep on keeping on, even through your worst times.

Not every day is easy, but here are a few things that have helped me when going through my most challenging times:

Walking to the sunrise every morning
Daily Devotionals, especially on grief and challenging times
Listening to meditations and higher-power messages (I really liked this one)
Journaling my thoughts and feelings
Letting those close to me know when I'm having sad days

If you're going through hard times, I'm praying for courage to power through, wisdom to know there's something good on the other side, and grace to allow yourself to get through the best you can.

Financial Coach versus Financial Advisor with Grace Kilgore Nov 06, 2023

Because the coaching industry is so new, it’s no surprise that most people assume they need a financial advisor, instead of a financial coach.

I’ve been a financial coach since 2015 and many people have called me a financial advisor (which I’m not) and sought services outside of my wheelhouse.

That’s why I’m so excited to have financial advisor Grace Kilgore on the show today.

Grace and I are going to talk about the differences between a financial coach and a financial advisor, so whoever’s listening can understand the difference and seek out the right financial support.

When you’re looking to establish your financial foundation – create a budget, pay off debt, build an emergency fund and improve your money mindset, a financial coach is what you need.

When you have a solid financial foundation and you’re ready to build wealth – through investment vehicles like the stock market, life insurance and more, you’re ready to work with a financial advisor.

My goal as a finance coach is to get my clients established and ready to work with a financial advisor. They have laid the foundation for financial consistency and now they’re ready to capitalize.

35 Money Lessons I Learned by 35 Sep 11, 2023

By the time you’re hearing this episode, I’m a newly aged 35-year-old woman.

My year from 34 to 35 has been one of tremendous growth.

Not from a business or material standpoint, but from an internal one.

It’s been a year of reflection, trusting the unknown, and having faith.

It was a tough year personally and I was forced to do things I didn’t plan to.

I was forced to slow down when I didn’t want to. I was forced to be content, which is something I struggled with.

The growth I’ve experienced in the past year has had a huge impact on the money lessons I’ve accumulated over my 35 years of life.

In this episode, I’m sharing some of the biggest money lessons I learned by 35. I have a feeling the lessons will keep coming!

Mindset Matters: Abundance versus Scarcity Jul 31, 2023

When it comes to your finances, it (literally) pays to have the right mindset.

How you think about your money determines how you act with your money. How you think about your situation determines how you change (or don’t change) your situation.

In this episode, I’m diving into why mindset is so important for your life and finances.

I’m also going to break down money scarcity, so you can spot the signs of that particular mindset and work to change it!

Why You Need to Pay to Get Better with Money Jul 24, 2023

Why should I pay to get help with my finances when there are plenty of free or low-cost options available?

Since I’m a coach that specializes in helping people who don’t know how to budget, you can imagine how many times I’ve been asked this question. And it’s perfectly valid.

The funny thing is, the people who are asking that question, aren’t asking questions like: why should I save so I don’t live paycheck to paycheck? Why should I control my spending so I can pay my bills?

Those are valid questions too!

The reason why people need to pay for help in areas they haven’t been successful in (finances included), is because they haven’t been able to figure it out themselves up until this point.

That’s not to say that no one can figure it out themselves. I sure did, as far as my finances go…But, it wasn’t easy.

It wasn’t overnight. It would have happened a lot faster with the right guide.

In this episode, I’m sharing why you need to invest in your financial success, and why it’s perfectly okay to spend money to get better with it.

While I no longer get summer vacations like I did in grade school, I still love to make the most of the summer season.

Mid Year Personal and Business Goals Check In Jul 10, 2023

When it comes to your goals, you can’t just set them and forget them.

You have to check in on them and make sure you’re on track. If you’re not on track, you still have time to course correct and figure other things out.

Sometimes, things come up and your goals can’t be achieved exactly when you want them to.

That doesn’t mean you should give up though! It just means you’ll need to tweak, adjust and get back to work. The same goes for me!

You may remember at the end of 2022, I shared my personal and business goals for 2023.

Well, here we are, over 7 months into the year and I practice what I preach.

In this episode, I’m doing a mid-year personal and business goals check in. I’m sharing my check in results with you, so you can do your own mid-year goal check in!

Manifesting Money, Trips and More with CGS Client Tymika Jul 03, 2023

I can’t quite explain it, but every time a new client joins my coaching program and vows to truly change their money situation, God, the Universe, or whatever else you believe in throws things their way to confirm they’re on the right track.

Extra money miraculously appears. Bills come back with credits. Checks show up in the mail. Family members send blessings.

This isn’t an anomaly to just one or two clients, it happens to just about all of them who truly decide to improve their finances.

Tymika is no different. Tymika is a money coaching client of mine who started working with me in 2021 and has continued with ongoing support.

I’ve seen amazing shifts in Tymika’s mindset and it’s translated to her manifesting amazing things, back to back.

Don’t get me wrong, saving money just to save money is better than the alternative – not saving money at all, but when you don’t have a purpose for your savings, it can be easy to spend it on things you don’t necessarily need.

I’m sure you’ve heard the term “sinking funds” before, and if you haven’t, you’ll definitely learn today!

Sinking funds are individual saving strategies for specific goals.

Whether you’re saving for that goal in a bank account, investment account or a cash envelope, you’re contributing to that goal’s sinking fund.

Sinking funds can be a great way to save for goals, save for expenses that tend to pop up on you unexpectedly, or save for things (big or small) that you want to have money for in the future.

Breaking Down My Savings Accounts and Strategies May 29, 2023

I’ve been budgeting and saving for many years.

With that comes picking up on tips and tricks, and learning what strategies work and don’t work.

I’m a firm believer in the notion of one savings account per goal.

Not only does this keep you organized, but it also keeps you on top of how close you are to reaching that goal.

I currently have 7 primary savings accounts.

Each of them has a specific purpose and a specific strategy behind them.

In today’s episode, I’m breaking those accounts and strategies down.

I’m doing this to inspire you to get strategic with your own savings accounts.

I also want you to get an idea of how I think about saving – in the hopes that you’ll take what works for you and thrive!

[02:10] Before taking City Girl Savings full-time, I had a goal of saving 15 months’ worth of expenses.
[04:10] I keep my emergency fund in a high-yield savings for a few reasons: extra interest, liquid cash and not easy to instantly transfer.
[08:50] I never keep more than a few thousand dollars in my travel savings. Because of this, I keep this account close to my checking for easy access when booking.
[14:32] Any savings account of mine that’s linked to my checking has a specific purpose. I don’t touch those accounts unless they’re needed to fulfill their purpose.
[19:05] I use Betterment for my long-term investment accounts. It’s user-friendly and I love their “goal forecaster.”

Whatever area (or areas) of your life you’re unhappy with, it’s time to do something about it.

Stop putting off improving your situation because time is of the essence.

The longer you prolong the work, the longer you prolong the success.

In this episode, I’m sharing 5 reasons to stop putting off improving your situation and life, so you can get to work immediately on changing things for the better.

My Favorite Affirmations for Money, Happiness and More May 15, 2023

I started using affirmations in 2018 after I made the decision that I wanted to run City Girl Savings full-time.

When I tell you there is a night and day difference between how I thought then and how I think now, affirmations are what took me to the next level.

The thing about affirmations is that they aren’t just words you say out loud.

They are beliefs you want to be true about yourself or your situation.

The more you say them, the more you affirm them.

The more you affirm them, the more you believe them.

When you start believing in them, you start living them.

Then, the magic happens!

This episode is going to be a little different – one by one, I’m going to share my favorite affirmations for money, success, happiness and more.

I’m going to start with the oldest to newest, so you can see the progression.

Have you been wanting to start a business, but you struggle to decide if you can do it with your day job?

Starting a business is a huge deal, but it doesn’t have to be a hard process!

I started City Girl Savings when I had a full-time job in corporate America.

I’m not going to lie to you and say it was easy managing both, but it gave me time to grow my business without having to worry about how my bills would be covered.

If anyone is considering starting a business, nine times out of ten, I’d recommend they start it when they have their normal job.

The early stages of business are so unknown, so having the stability of your other job can be comforting in so many ways.

In this episode, I’m sharing why you should start a business when you have a day job. My hope is that this episode empowers you to take a leap of faith and just start!

Tony Robbins once said, “if you’re not growing, you’re dying”.

What he means is that if you are not working to improve your life, in any area, you’re staying still.

When the mind settles for what is, nothing more comes.

That doesn’t sound good to me. What about you?

We must continue learning to continue growing.

There are so many ways to do that, but it all starts with investing in your personal success.

You must invest in things that will take your life to the next level.

I’ve preached the importance of budgeting for a long time.

Let me just state for the record that I will continue to preach the importance of budgeting for as long as I’m able to!

Budgeting changed my life for the better and now I’m helping other people use budgeting to change their own lives.

Unfortunately, there’s still a misconception that life on a budget means a person can’t enjoy life. Not true!

A budget should include the things a person enjoys, in moderation of course!

I’m also going to share a few things I want to become budget non-negotiables, but they haven’t made their way into my budget just yet.

I see it all the time – whether it’s my clients, my friends or myself, we’re constantly putting other people’s needs and feelings above our own.

While both men and women do this, it’s especially prominent in women. We make sure everyone else is okay, leaving our own happiness on the backburner.

At the end of the day, I firmly believe that our own individual happiness should be a top priority. This will make it so much easier to help other people we care about.

In this episode, I’m sharing why your happiness should be first priority and how to make sure you’re putting yourself first without making other people feel neglected.

There are things we can all do to make sure we prioritize our own happiness. And remember, it’s so much harder to fill someone else’s cup when your own cup is empty.

My Debt-Free Story and the Biggest Takeaways Along the Way Mar 28, 2022

Did you know millennials carry an average credit card debt amount of about $4,600?

I’m proud to say that I’m credit card debt-free, but that wasn’t always the case. In fact, I had gotten myself into tens of thousands of dollars in debt multiple times. It took years and thousands of dollars to undo the damage. Today, I’m sharing some of my biggest takeaways from the experience.

I’m not a millionaire…YET!

But, it’s something I’m actively working on and it’s something that is realistic for everyone. It may be harder for some people compared to others, but it is possible.

There are 8 steps that everyone can take to work towards millionaire status.

Step 1: Affirm your million-dollar savings goal.

Step 2: Reduce your negative “profit margin”.

Step 3: Live a life of frugality.

Step 4: Ask for a raise (or start making more money).

Step 5: Start investing.

Step 6: Remember, your 401k is an investment.

Step 7: Change your circle of influence.

Step 8: Stay consistent and be patient.

Anything worth having is worth working for. Don’t give up until you reach you millionaire status!

A few years ago, I took the Strengths Finder test to have a better understanding of myself. One of my top strengths is “Futuristic”.

This means I’m inspired by the future and what could be, essentially visualization.

Visualization is your ability to imagine things and see it in your mind. It doesn’t necessarily tell you HOW to get to what you’re visualizing, but it does open your mind to what’s possible. Once you see it, you can believe it. Once you believe it, you can achieve it!

Have you ever had a dream but your fear of failure kept getting in the way?

When I decided to pursue City Girl Savings full-time fear reared its ugly head. I sought out the skills, tools, and resources I needed to not allow fear to stop me.

Reading “The Power of Now”, journaling, asking questions and truly seek the answers, and daily affirmations are powerful resources for me.

Journaling about my fear of failure lead to this realization:

I get to define “Failure” and I could never be a failure because of all that I’ve done up until this point. Unless I’m dying or on the verge of dying, this “fear” I have is unnecessary. I also shifted from society's view of success to what a successful life really looks like for me.

What I realized: I’m already a success!

How I Curbed My Desire to Spend Jan 24, 2022

Before City Girl Savings, there wasn’t anything I wouldn’t spend my money on.

I would constantly be out shopping.

After facing a potential eviction, I was forced to get my spending in check. There’s a different level of drive when you’re forced to do something!

I learned that I’m a natural-born spender, so I have to always be mindful and prioritize what’s important. I shifted my focus to the things that mattered most to me.

I started setting and achieving goals. Anything that wasn’t helping me get closer to my goals wasn’t important and didn’t need money dedicated to it.

Start getting clear on what matters most to you! Focus on those things and you’ll find the desire to spend when you don’t need to slowly subsides!

Could turn my life around with budgeting, and still feel like I can enjoy myself in moderation, I could help other women do the same.

So, I put all of my knowledge and experience into processes and systems...and here we are today!
