The word “sordid” (def: “morally ignoble, dirty”) is a tragic but appropriate way to describe the story of Ravi Zacharias, one of the world’s most well-known Evangelical leaders and influencers.Zacharias founded and presided over a large ministry bearing his name, with upwards of $25M in annual revenue, that was devoted to defending the Christian faith. He authored over 30 books and was the keynote speaker at major events all over the world, including non-Christian venues of higher education and government.People mourned when Zacharias died last year of cancer at the age of 70. But when allegations of widespread sexual impropriety and even criminality surfaced, which were confirmed by an investigation, mourning turned to shock and disgust...

Ravi Zacharias was one of the most well-known evangelical Christians in the world. Speaking all over the world and leading Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM), a non-profit, para-church organization based in Atlanta with satellite offices around the world and upwards of $25M in annual revenue. At speaking events and on his daily radio program, Zacharias was known for being an intelligent and articulate Christian “apologist”—one who provides answers to the philosophical, moral, and existential challenges to Christianity. He was highly respected personally and professionally. As is typical with nearly all high-profile ministry leaders, especially ones in ministry for 40 years, Zacharias absorbed a couple publicized accusations—one about exaggerating his educational credentials and the other a few years ago regarding a Canadian woman sending him sexual text messages. The latter was explained away as an extortion attempt...

Because some held Christian flags and crosses at the Trump rally in Washington D.C. on January 6 and because a melee at the U.S. Capitol ensued, the conclusion now pushed by the mainstream media and politicians and religious leaders on the left is that “Christian Nationalists” are homegrown terrorists threatening our democracy. But what exactly is Christian Nationalism? It’s being used as a catch-all pejorative—a word expressing contempt—for those who breached the Capitol, but by extension, any and all Christians—including evangelicals—who want biblical values integrated into civil life and polity. The reasoning goes, “You’re a Christian, you voted for Trump, Trump is a white supremacist who made baseless claims of election fraud and incited an insurrection which threatened our democracy; thus, you are a Christian Nationalist supporting white supremacy, sedition, and election denialism. You are dangerous to democracy and need to be marginalized, monitored, and suppressed. You are the enemy of the state and the people.”...

The Bible explicitly states in its final book, Revelation, that the world will be ruled someday by an authoritarian leader called the “beast” (or Anti-Christ).Here is the all-encompassing degree of authority the Anti-Christ will have:“And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name” (Revelation 13:16-17).To hold this kind of authority over the people of the world means that individual liberties—such as the freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, to petition government, and to bear arms—will have been eliminated or greatly restricted...

While it’s natural to be over-impacted by the present experience, it seems like we are living in a transformative moment in world history. While there have been clear signs for decades of spiritual compromise in the church and moral decay in the country, and while Christians know what the end of the Book says about the coming godless globalism, events of the past year have made great strides toward that destination.Whether it’s government consolidation of power with COVID, false accusation of racism for anyone who opposes the mainstream perspective, a potentially stolen presidential election, and a new administration imposing everything against God and traditional America, many Christians are suffering from a case of the ABCDs.Anxiety or Anger about what is taking place.Bitterness over what has become of our countryConfusion over what the truth is election fraudDiscouragement or Despair for the future.Just us this week on The Christian Worldview as we discuss overcoming ABCD with RSTUV!
