What exactly is "disinformation?" Plus, Elon Musk Buys Twitter May 02, 2022

Show notes

We've long talked about social media companies being the lesser censor and turning to the greater censor, the government, to fix the issues with these platforms would be a disaster for free speech. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration is setting up a “Disinformation Governance Board." What could possibly go wrong? We also touch on Elon Musk buying Twitter. We also witness the debut of "Hot Take Harry."

Show notes

I got a C in economics in high school economics, so I am no help in explaining what caused our current inflation, how to fix it, and when rising prices will subside. I brought in Texas Tech economics professor Alex Salter to explain it. He is also a Young Voices contributor and the author of Money and the Rule of Law: Generality and Predictability in Monetary Institutions, which is published by Cambridge University Press.

How To Keep Your Sanity in a Sea of Information Using Intellectual Self-Defense with "The Trivium" Apr 16, 2022

Show notes

Dr. Travis Corcoran wrote a new book called Restoring Reason, and I love the concept. He talks about the Trivium, which is a system of thinking through concepts. The first three pillars of a liberal arts education are grammar, logic, and rhetoric. In other words, capturing knowledge, thinking it through, and then communicating those ideas. How can a systematic approach to information help us combat the discombobulating cascade of information we deal with on a daily basis? Listen as we outline it.

In his book Restoring Reason, philosopher Dr. Travis Corcoran demonstrates how the liberal arts provide us with a skillset to evaluate knowledge and draw our own conclusions for clarity, confidence, and freedom. Dr. Corcoran explains the trivium—knowledge, understanding, and wisdom—and the foundation it lays for making high-quality decisions for a high-quality life. Restoring Reason is an intellectual self-defense manual to make sense of the world we live in. Including an analysis of the five biggest social engineers today, including corporate interests and legacy media, this reproducible, systematic framework will help you see truth, deny falsehoods, and lead a fulfilled, independent life.

How to Stop Insider Trading in Congress with Addison Hosner Apr 09, 2022

Show notes

My jaw dropped when I read the following: "When the nation was facing the COVID-19 pandemic without knowledge of when a vaccine would arise, at least 75 federal lawmakers held shares of Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer — all of which eventually benefited from nearly $6 trillion in relief bills to produce, manufacture, and distribute vaccines to the American public. Congress was directly involved in the creation and passing of these relief bills." Addison Hosner had a great article on the plague of insider trading in Congress, and the Young Voices contributor joins me to detail how we can stop it.

The View From Eastern Europe Mar 19, 2022

Show notes

Listener Ana and I have been talking a lot about the Eastern European view of the current Russo-Ukrainian War. She's from North Macedonia, which is north of Greece, south of Kosovo, and next to Albania. Her country was founded in 1991 after the dissolution of Yugoslavia, and has been in the constant push and pull of the West and Russia's sphere of influence. She gives us some perspective on life in this position as well as the growing concern in her nation about Putin's militarism.
